  • The concept of corresponding squares is one of the most important ones to know in pawn endgames. It's slightly complicated, because often you have to do backward working. But once it is done, then things become quite easy to understand.
    Through the top level game between Radjabov and Nakamura where the Azeri GM went wrong, IM Sagar Shah explains you this quintessential concept of the pawn endgames.

    Sagar sir , well explained, it is one of the most critical concept in end games, numerous games have. Been saved or lost or won by virtue of this understanding. As a growing chess player , I request you to make an elaborated video on this topic.

    Bro, I'm watching this video a year later and it finally makes a lot of sense. I think the yellow square is more of a transition square that corresponds with the critical squares (green and orange). Thanks!!

    Are corresponding squares somewhat similar to opposition or distant opposition?

    • @ChessCube2

      Corresponding squares can help you to take opposition (diagonal vertical horizontal distant whatever)

    • @chinmayaprakash
      @chinmayaprakash 6 місяців тому

      Think of it this way. Direct or distant opposition principles are universal. You can apply them to any position. Corresponding squares are unique to every possible configuration of king-and-pawns endgame. Like Sagar so wonderfully explains, you have to work backwards by first identifying the critical squares and then correlating the corresponding squares for the opponent king, hence the name.
