I'm glad he's watching this channel. I followed this series for almost the entire war
Same!
Same
Same!

I was too late to follow the channel, it's so sad I wasn't their in their first episode.

The chat at the start got the right idea to joke around
"Hitler pulled the special military operation"
"There were nazis in poland, hitler had to do it"
I love Indy's way of story telling so much, started with his between two wars series and instantly got hooked.
I found his conted because Tommy reacted to one of the WW2 biospecials. Same goes for Kraut and Blue Jay of whom I became a fan as well because of Tommy's reactions.
Just wanted to appreciate how Tommy did help me discover new amazing content while I'm watching him.
15:38 he also ww1 in real time week by week and now he's doing the korean war week by week
Finally someone reacts to that channel. Indy Neidell and his team make the best history videos nowadays.
Gliwice (Gleiwitz) is my city. We used to be a german city for many years and we have lots of german culture in all of silesia. The radiostation is a common symbol of the city and our history.
hello from toszecka street
@@ridelus haha witaj z władysława andersa
my grandmother lives in gliwice 😃
about the alcoholic grandpa Tommy talks about I think I have the explanation for this, so apparently in some reports with high ranking SS they told the SS officers to hand out large amounts of alcohol for the SS troops after killing hundreds of civilians to cope with what they did. And the SS officers were worried about the mental state of the SS troops. So I guess this COULD explain why his grandpa and dad were alcoholics to cope with them witnessing or maybe killing civilians. JUST SO IM CLEAR IM PROBABLY WRONG BUT I HEARD THIS IN A DOCUMENTARY SO I DON'T KNOW MUCH ALSO IM NOT ACCUSING TOMMY'S DAD OR GRANDPA OF BEING A SS SOLDIER, I ACTUALLY FORGOT IF HE SAID HIS GRANDPA WAS IN THE SS SO IDK.
I heard that too about them handing out alcohol
Yeah same thing happens in other war, And happen to my grandpa who survive and back from the Vietnam war.
even if the government didn't order it I can understand he might want to drink his sorrows away
It can explain it but it doesn't explain other things. Like a lot of those people who were doing those jobs were told beforehand what they were doing and if they didn't want to participate they could step forward and be transferred to a different assignment.
It was common. It was so common that during the trials they said "just following orders isn't an excuse" because people who couldn't do it weren't really punished at all. They were just transferred.
Then there was brigades full of criminals that were told to do it and they were complete psychopaths basically told to go wild.
You can go watch interviews of the soldiers that were doing it, they did not care in the slightest and thought nothing of what they were doing. Being alcoholics after losing a war is commonplace in literally every single war thats taken place like ever it's really not that deep
29:15 I really didn't except to hear "One last, then My Little Pony" in this video 🤣🤣🤣
im so glad youtube recommended me this
Poland lost the most people per population
I love this series
Funny how he watches this as the series is about to end 😂
I've followed that entire series and I swear by it
51:25 what's most ironic is the fact that Soviets and Germans made military parade there to comemorade their friendship... while city garrison was still fighting in the citadel 😅
Also Soviet general wanted to flex before Germans so he spoke to them in German. But he misspelled and basically said that they are going to kill them all. They were laughing so hard out of it. Oh ironny, sweet, sweet irony 😅
War was inevitable, all the world powers knew about it back in the 1930s.
Stalin himself said that we should prepare for a World War 10 years before the start of the war.
The Molotov Pact was needed in order to delay time, the USSR did not have enough time, Poland unfortunately went into exchange, as Ukraine is now going into exchange.
The fact that the USSR was ready for an alliance with Hitler is nonsense, the USSR had been preparing for war for more than 10 years, so the USSR actually won Germany.
But the United States and Britain initially prepared for war with the USSR, which became known from Churchill.
That is, according to Churchill's idea, the USSR first had to be weakened by the Nazis, and then the United States and Britain would come and finish off the remaining ones. But the USSR became many times stronger at the end of the war than at the beginning, so Churchell's plan to destroy the USSR failed and the Cold War began
+1
Definitely subscribing for this reaction series! I think you should keep up with it!
15:00 you're looking for Operations Room
On the subject of Chamberlain and appeasement, while I'll still strongly disagree with the practice, it's been pointed out recently that the policy of appeasement was never about preventing war, but simply delaying it in order to allow Britain and France the crucial time they needed to rearm.
The British and French militaries were certainly not in any realistic capability to fight Germany in 1938, but the estimates they used at the time predicted that within a few years British and French military capabilities would exceed that of Germany and would continue to grow at a sustainable rate, while Germany's economy, totally consumed by exorbitant military expenses, would quickly fall apart if war did not come soon.
The truth is that appeasement should probably not have continued when Germany turned to the Czechoslovaks, but it is important to consider that Chamberlain was not just a naive idiot, and was rather a leader of a rearming country in an impossible situation.
only tommy can turn a 10 minute video into an hour long reaction
I believe the title of the video was misleading...
There's reactions for atleast 6 or 7 videos.
Which means the should have been name "THIS is what happened on 1st Month and a half of WW2.
He reacted to episodes 1-4 and 6
The act of appeasement is misunderstood the uk wasn't ready for another major conflict neither was France (even tho the French thought they were due to a vast underestimating of Germany) the uk pursued appeasement as a means to by them time to stall which is also why after the declaration they still didn't commit to any offensives for the entire beginning of the war
i never knew how much i like tommy as a person and love his serious history content
I find it funny how some people think it is easy to rise up against the regime in Russia, they clearly didn't live in Russia nor see what government does
"You cannot reason with the tiger when your head is in it's mouth."
10:05 well they considered it but there was fear that Germans would take only industrial hearthland without any shot and basically do another Suddetenland where Allies would sell polish provices without fireing a shot. That would basically render Poland as German puppet unable to do anything while loosing most patriotic and industrialised regions of Poland
If you want to know how WW2 battles went from 1st person view.
You should look at old movies from just after the war made with consultants who fought in the war.
49:51 you can just google the typical equipment of every army. Just remember to randomly pick one piece of equipment and pretend it doesnt exist, becouse of supply shortages.
51:50 Justin Trudeau be like:
53:05 the only thing that comes to mind is bronze age. The Assyrians were so proud of murdering entire civilian populations they made statues of the torture process, which is how we know what they did. They were so openly evil they documented their own crimes.
Maybe Aztecs? Or Mongols? Similarly openly cruel. though the nazis might be somewhat unique, as their cruelty felt more "machine" than animalistic.
10:42 love that. I've been saying it for years now!
I recommend the book by Helmut Walser "Germany: A Nation in Its Time: Before, During and After Nationalism 1500-2000"
The author brings facts that knowledge about atrocities was common among Germans although it was not openly spoken about. The general public opinion approached it pretty fine unfortunetly.
Ahh Tommy as a young guy who's read Actung! Panzer, its actually a really interesting book (if you are giga autistically interested in tanks like I am - Warthunder -Hoi4 -WW2 in general) What interested me about the book was the fact that every dude was supposed to read it. Like just imagine how many tankers probably couldnt read, but they sat around with their tanking buddies as one person read it out to them all so they could understand the tactics. Even how Guderian talks at the beginning of the book about the German perspective of WW1 - focusing on inefficiencies and un tenable losses/ mistakes committed by their leaders.
I think being a German tanker in 1939-1940 would've been incredibly exciting for the 'average joe' - little did they know they were heading into one of the biggest nightmares in human history
Sucks he never continued the series :/
Really hoped he would of and treated it like his oversimplified reactions where he continued reacting to the whole series/parts.
Would’ve loved to see his reaction to the Stalingrad special they did
12:25 I think it's a result of living a decade under Nazi rule, and the conditions of the war itself. They were told they were the best, they were repeatedly told things that were not true, they in the end would believe these things. Many of them would believe post war propaganda as well, and took it with them to their graves. I find it hard personally to hate people who've been conditioned, it wasn't really their choice, and you should be able to understand why they believe what they believe regardless whether it's right/wrong. It's unfortunate in the end.
Then the war itself would totally f*** these people up in horrible ways, not just things they did, but imagine giving everything you had, losing friends/family, then watching everything you believed crumble around you, all that sacrifice for absolutely nothing. They didn't just sacrifice material, or friends/family to said war, but their very souls. Definitely the ones that commited crimes. They will try to justify said crimes but this is actually a coping mechanism. They're not convincing you they're trying to convince themselves. Then they spend the rest of their time drowning themselves in drink.
In this scenario, I think they should be pitied, not glorified or hated. In short, they badly needed a hug and shown a better life, maybe they would have turned around? People often say there are no sorry Nazis, well people rarely gave them a reason to be sorry. They were deemed the enemy of all mankind so were in turn treated as the enemy of all mankind, rage anger and alcoholism was the result. I think society had a huge lost opportunity of rehabilitating and plausibly redeeming some of them but we didn't try hard enough. Now we have to deal with fallout as most of them are gone. As they would have made the best weapons against newer generations of Nazis, and perhaps even gotten more admissions of guilt and a better understanding of crimes committed as well.
Sadly those that tried to come out and admit horrible things they did, often found themselves send to prison, or worse. They were never given a reason to admit what they did, never given a reason to want to come out and admit their guilt. I personally wish we would have tried to give some immunity decades after the war just to get as many of these people to come out of hiding as possible, tell their stories, admit things that happened. So we could get a better picture of the crimes the Nazis committed.
Good example not long ago was Josef Schutz. He was sent to trial because of things he admitted during an interview with a journalist. He actually wanted to tell his story, but of course he was sent to court shortly there after. As a result he was forced to lie up the wazoo trying to keep out of jail. If this didn't happen who knows what he would have admitted to. But instead the criminal court system was brought in and he was now forced to try his best to keep himself out of prison. So would have to walk back/downplay things he had prior said.
The fact that Japan was as bad if not worse than Germany is just insane (talking about their war crimes).
When Titans Clashed by David M. Glantz (Author), Jonathan M. House (Author) reed this book if you want to see detalies on battles

In Achtung Panzer geht es hauptsächlich um Panzerschlachten aus dem 1 Weltkrieg und wie man panzer am besten im Krieg einsetzt bzw wie unsere Truppen trainiert werden sollen
note
the pact with germany was very controversal in the politburo and stalin himself was very agasint it, the lands the USSR took from poland had been taken by poland during the russian civil war before, most of why england and france didnt want the pact with the soviets was anti-communist (which is a reason why the U.S would nuke japan to get them to surrender before the soviets did any naval invasion.)
Stalin was a murdering piece of sht who just wanted to conquer Europe.

Tommy should be apologizing more for the actions of his ancestors. This seems like he is not taking the severity of the situation to heart by comparing it a video game. This whole thing all of world war 2 was caused by germany and every german was complicit in those crimes. Perhaps thankfully, Hitler did not take the lessons of the Romans, specifically from Julius Caesar's time, to heart. If he had done what Julius Caesar did [recruit and train those he defeated in battle, and assimilate the conquered areas formally], the Axis powers may have won- particularly against the USSR via Ukranians.
If he had done that he would not be Hitler but a completely different person.

Tommy constantly romanticizes WW3 and comparing the Ukraine war to Hitler's appeasement era is so weird
Funny how they are all like "someone should do something to stop Russia" but none of them went to Ukraine to fight. Who do they think would do something if the West takes more actions against Russia?
Because he in the German army reserves. That why his fear to die alone so he just want to drag us with to die with him, If the war broke out.
because history repeats itself in the same thing, that's happening back then is happening now, are you stupid are you dumb
Technically we did appease Putin, Georgia 2008 nothing really, Crimea 2014, Donbas 2014. Yea like idk what you expected. I don’t think Tommy romanticizes it, but we really need to get ready for potential WW3 in the future, so we (at least I’m in the western world) gotta get ahead of the curve.
It's not weird though as there are many parallels between the two
