The long awaited piano cover is finally here!
Hikaru Nara by Goose House!
Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso (your lie in April) is definitely one of the best anime series of this fall anime season 2014, and of course, I am not missing out the awesome OP song as well!
Initially I wanted to make a very sophisticated and virtuosic "piano fantasy about a theme of a classical music anime" - transcription, because it fits quite well with the classical music topic of the anime.
I attempted to integrate the Schumann piano concerto in A-major with Hikaru Nara (and changing the time signature from 4/4 to 3/4), but I gave up the idea halfway, since it didn't sound very good.
That's why I started from the scratch again and made a slower, "ballad-version" instead. I took the main motif from the chorus and created many "original passages" - mosty noticeable in the beginning part and the build-up transitions before the chorus.
This piano version of Hikaru Nara is also more melancholic than the original upbeat Hikaru Nara song by Goose House, because of the slow beginning and slow ending.
I think, you could regard this as a "summary" of my transcription activity of this year. The first piano medley with sheets, (Nagi no asukara), the first piano cover with "classical ending" (owari no sekai kara), the first live concert in three major asian cities (animenz live!) .... I had many firsts this year and I gained a lot of valuable experiences.
It was truly a fantastic year for me.

This anime literally changed my life. I've been playing piano since I was like 7 and it always seemed I played just because I had to. For a moment I thought like giving up because I had to do a lot of sacrifice to practice, but after watching this anime I changed completely my mind. I started to enjoy music and I realized it was very satisfying feeling the music. Now I am sure I'm going to keep playing. It reached me...

Same here, I passed my lvl 8 practical and theory exams and was considering quitting, and ended up taking a month-long break from piano. I watched YLIA in that month, and now I'm actually looking forward to my lessons starting again. Your Lie in April really rekindled the sense of awe and wonder that I had when I was a child and started piano.

you do know, he didnt just sit at a piano one day and start playing? as complex as the piece is, it may take many months, even YEARS to learn something like this. it takes real devotion, so if you just believe in yourself and know you want this and tell yourself you can, your outcome will be great! just remember everything takes time, and you can do it! :)

its cause animenz has tours and concerts, and he is also studying music at a university in europe according to his website, theishter has so much more time, and animenz's arragements are much harder tbh
Same goes for drawing. People think that someone just sits there and starts drawing sketches like Da Vinci while in reality you need to spend many hours learning (many thing in many ways) to be able to draw something nice :) I really admire people who have enough determination and discipline to sit everyday and learn, hone their skills, and spend time on their passion.

This anime has given me so much to take away.
I have learned so much through this anime.
I was in a very difficult phase when I started it.
But this series has given me strength.
I started to play the piano again, because this anime showed me how much emotions are in music. I have found a connection to classical piano music and finally have the feeling that since I started playing the piano again I am made for it. Still today the piece Liebesleid by Kreisler is one of my favourite pieces.
I have probably expressed myself badly now, but I am so grateful to myself that I clicked on the first episode of the anime.

You lie in April is one of the reasons why am learning the piano, and am trying my best to learn the opening because I want to know at least one of the songs that inspire me into playing the piano.
Good luck! It will take a long time and a lot of practice, but for every minute you put into practicing, it pays off in the end, and you can create something beautiful.
David martinez Same here, Animenz and Theisther's piano covers inspired me to start playing the piano late last year, and I just got a 76 key keyboard. It's hella hard, but I'm going to keep practicing until I can play their covers just as good as they can.

This won't be an easy journey but it will be worth it! I practiced this piece for 2 months, but I have had piano courses for 2 years before.

@@Ethan-lx2mc firstly, it’s a piece. It depends on you how long it will take to learn it(edit: found a comment saying it took them 3 months to master it). If you’re serious about learning the instrument, i suggest you get a teacher, apps aren’t the best imo. If you’re only gonna learn it for fun, I suggest synthesia (idk if that’s how it’s spelled). Also, I think you’ve realized already, but this piece is quite hard, so you should take it slow on this one to make sure you get each bar right :)

Haha, this remembers me of the time when I started playing piano in second grade. I was forced by my piano teacher to play the pieces she knew and could play so I never got the chance to actually play what I wanted to. So after 5 years of playing I quitted and about 3 years after I quitted, I really got into anime again, I used to watch a lot anime in my childhood (Dragonball Z, One Piece, etc.), and then I figured out that I could play my favorite Anime Openings on piano to impress some friends, you know just for fun. And now I‘m playing almost every day learning new pieces everything over UA-cam. There is this one UA-camr called Amosdoll, he has to almost every Anime Opening an tutorial! But anyway now I can play many different Openings on the piano and I even learned an classical piece. Oh and Animenz was also a main factor why I started playing piano again because when I first saw his Tokyo Ghoul Unravel cover I was so impressed by it that I also wanted to impress my friends with playing Anime Openings they knew, on the piano. What I love about Kaori, is that she was always so positive. Even when times were tough, she always smiled. I have no words. This show is one of the best

@@lefudj4236 good luck to you dude!! This one is much easier than guren no yumiya as that song is his 7th most difficult transcription (noted in his one piece we are desc box). I'd suggest learning this on the side at the same time, its nice and relaxing compared to the epic and intense atmosphere of guren no yumiya if you ever get frusturated. HAVE FUN

So, small story from small person. I started playing piano two and half years ago. It's strated with hope, because it's my second music instrument. It took some time before I had some progress, year without teacher in classical music. Now, I'm going to get a diploma of pianist and continue study. At the February of 2023 I bought sheet music of this song. It was hard, I thought it's impossible to play, but here I am. It took 13 months, I was anger with myself, met some great pianists and just want to say thank you, Animenz. Your work inspired me to start playing this beautiful instrument and start my music journey as pianist. Thanks from Ukraine

You know how in the anime they talk about music having the power to move people with music? This guy has, on multiple occasions, moved me with his playing. So powerful, bold, but also gentle and warm. I love it so much :3
I feel like this would be the way Kousei would have played it after everything that transpired throughout the series. Remember in the first episode he started to write the notes for this song?? The beginning feels like him longing for Kaori after she's gone, the middle is Kousei remembering every moment they spent together, and the end where he says goodbye
Edit: The transition from every part of the song to the next is so perfect. You can really feel those shifts in emotions as they're happening
"Kimi da yo kimi nan dayo oshiete kureta". Everytime i hear that line, i always remember Kaori's death. I want to watch it again but im afraid that im gonna have a heartache

SEEING THAT PIANO MAKES MY WHOLE BODY CRY
When I first watched Your Lie in April I was 11 and it absolutely broke me. I just rewatched it at 15 and I think I finally understood what Kaori was talking about. The show is so sad, but there’s a beauty and happiness in it that is hard to see.
Kousei Arima- "I just met you and now you're leaving me, but when it comes down to it, even if I knew there was going to be a goodbye, I'm glad I met you. Before you came along I was drowning in a dark ocean of my own tears. I didn't think life had any meaning. I wanted to play the piano and then again... I didn't. I was a lost soul. You play around like you don't have a care in the world, but when I'm hurt, you come to share the pain. I can't read you, yet, I NEVER want you to leave my side.
Tsubaki told me that my eyes don't "sparkle". At first, I had no clue what she meant by that. Now I do. Your eyes sparkle and it's so bright! I'd become blind if I looked at you for too long. The world I've known my whole life was unknown land. I was scared, but remember what you told me that day? I do! You said, "We're all scared, but you do it anyways and that's how you create the most beautiful lie of all." So, I created my lie, and trust me, it was the most beautiful.
Now everything is so colorful and you're in the middle of it all screaming, "Here I am!!"

I didn't like to play the piano because it felt like I had to, but nothing else. Then I saw this anime and it changed my point of view about classical music and performing. I was almost about to quit piano, but now... I'm practicing the Revolutionary from Chopin :)

At first I was a bit iffy as it started out quite slowly and you added your own take onto it, but then 2:00 kicked in and I felt my left testicle rupture from the sheer awesomeness that flowed from your fingers into the piano!

Music can’t simply be “listened to”. It has to be played. After watching Your Lie In April, I INSTANTLY knew that I had to work to grow up an become a classical pianist. Piano is one of the most GORGEOUS instruments, from its sleek black figure to its gorgeous black and white keys. All of the classical piece that were played in your lie, I DIDNT EVEN KNOW THEY EXISTED, until I watched and listened. I listened to the LOVE that the musicians expressed whilst they played, the anger, and the pain. Music is a way to indirectly express your emotions while at the same time, it’s like your giving the listeners your diary. I can’t simply just LISTEN!! I need to learn these gorgeous pieces, and be able to feel them first hand, with my own fingers, not ears.
