About Blur:
Blur were formed in 1989 by Damon Albarn, Graham Coxon, Alex James and Dave Rowntree and signed with Food/EMI the same year. Announcing their arrival with debut album Leisure in 1991, Blur continued to revolutionise the sound of English popular music with second release Modern Life Is Rubbish (1993). Five successive UK #1 albums followed - with Parklife (1994) and The Great Escape (1995) helping to propel the band to mass popularity in the UK and beyond. The eponymous Blur was released in 1997 and seventh album Think Tank (2003) was Blur’s first as a three-piece after the temporary departure of founding guitarist Graham Coxon.
Twenty one years after the release of their debut album, 2012 saw Blur 21: The Box, the band's body of work compiled and gathered together into one box. Their most recent release as a four-piece, the critically acclaimed chart-topping album The Magic Whip (2015), started life in Hong Kong when the band had an unexpected break in touring in May 2013.

...something inside Sick Boy was lost and
never returned...
I WAS JUST ABOUT TO SAY THAT
Propelling ourselves with longing, toward the day where it would all go wrong.
:(
Heartbreaking 😓
They collectively killed a child. I never could find them "cool" after that.
"It wasn't just a baby that died that day, something was lost from Sick Boy & was never returned"
" It seemed that he had no theory with which to explain a moment like this... nor did I "
"Our only response was to keep on going and fuck everything"
"With God's help I'll conquer this terrible affliction."
@@eckoalbino1623 yeah baby
Im young what's happening?
Graham and Damon's harmonies during the "aaaaaa' part is magical, I don't know how else to describe it. It always gives me chills
HuaaahhhuaHHUUUUAAAAAAA
Kind of Beatles, kind of Kinks
same, it's wonderful
So do I
Franz Lanz Graham loves the Kinks 😉
"Thank you, Your Honor! With God's help, I'll conquer this terrible affliction!"
"In a word: pleasure
It's like, my pleasure in other people's leisure"
-Spud
I can't feel cos I'm numb
I can't feel cos I'm numb
What's the worth in all of this?
Sing to me
So what's the worth in all of this
If the child in your head
If the child is dead
Sing to me
Val I used to see you on every single weezer video I watched and now I have found you here, my love
well now that you've mentioned it i haven't listened to weezer in a long time hahah
thank you
You're a hero
I loved how that song was used for the turning point in Trainspotting: the result of their drug addiction which was the neglect of Dawn, the baby that's supposed to be Sick Boy's, leading to her death 😔
This is one of them songs where you can’t describe the way it makes you feel. You feel happy but then you have a strange feeling in your stomach of sadness because something is bugging you really bad in life
Apt description
I love the bass riff in this song
the best
Just like blur introducing the Beatles to My bloody valentine at a party.
This may well become my new obsession. Thanks Liam 👍
This song sounds eerie at first blush, but then the drum begins and it's mind-twisting, insane and tormented. One of my favorite pieces.
Have you heard "Venus in Furs" by the Velvet Underground?
+Petox20x It definitely has a Venus in Furs vibe to it. Sounds like Maureen Tucker's drumming
Yes, and the psychotic violin sounds like John Cale's electric viola. Most of the song sounds like a cover of "Venus in Furs."
@Vincent Amiel I love it too. And I agree with you. The piano at the start is just delectable...... The song is insane and hauntingly beautiful... Whats the worth in all of this??? 👏👏👏👏👏❤💋💋💋💋💋💋💋💋
I think of trainspotting everytime I hear this.Great track.
me to, there soundtrack is great
Pile misery upon misery
Heard this song in Bekham on Netflix and I had to save it on my spotify. It just sounds so beautiful!
It’s what brought me here.
It's such a lovely feeling
She also plays in Trainspotting, I came from there.
Foi o que me trouxe aqui tbm
Sameee
This song sounds like it couldn’t end. Their voices are so special and beautiful together. The bass line is so pure, true, like someone looking at you with pretty eyes and all the world behind. The moment when there are just the drums and the bass is magic. Blur’s musicians are so kind that they don’t stop the song brutally. I love them and this song
this song is how it sounded and felt everyday when i was at the height of my depression. Everything was loud and words went straight through you and conversations were chores
How are you doing today? Praying for your relief.
I hope you’re feeling better today.
"It wasn't just the baby that died that day. Something inside Sick Boy was lost and never returned."
-Mark "Rent-Boy" Renton.
this gives me chills every time i hear it, it's an absolute masterpiece.
100% agreed, genius level song
And yet it's never given the credit its deserved....so underrated ! Beckhams team finally gave it some much needed attention though 😊
@@wateva23ify Only because young people don't watch movies like Trainspotting.
Gives me chills to be honest
So much has changed since the 90s
Especially YOU :')
I want to go back
Quite possibly the most underrated song ever.... Astonishing piece of work.
Well at least we knew who the father was now. It wasn't just the baby that died that day - something inside Sick Boy was lost and never returned
one of the greatest songs ever- an anthem for the 90s
Devastating, hauntingly, most painfully beautiful. Another world
Nothing like getting off the Subway in Manhattan on a hectic Monday morning to this song....feels like the soundtrack to life.
I once heard this one day while kinda melancholic/nostalgic and, after coming from university, I saw a nearby kid playground and, ironically, decided to climb and then go down a toboggan, in trying not to kill the "child in my head." Made me more nostalgic...
this song always makes me cry for some reason
Told my boyfriend that I want it played for my funerals.
Its nostalgic
this song hits me right in the feels
Me too.😊
Nicely put.
Someone on Twitter (X) just asked Liam Gallagher : “What Blur song would you like to have written, Liam?” to which he replied, “‘Sing’”.
When asked, “Does 'Sing' make you cry Liam?” he added, “Like a baby”.
I thought it was beetlebum
@@dannyesse3043 I was surprised too when I've read this.
@@dannyesse3043 Beetlebum dijo que era la mejor canción del britpop.
Blur’s greatest ever tune IMO
Yes yes yes above and beyond YES!!!!!!!!!
There's a strong argument for that, and it's hard to disagree, but don't forget 'Oily Water': an equal classic.
Caramel
@@drdpression Dayum, someone who can actually say "Oily Water" and know what it is. Much respect to you.
@@drdpression In all honesty, that was my favorite song off that album for a long time, like I was listening to "Modern Life Is Rubbish" back when I was like 12 and stuff,. and until this day. I've never stopped listening to Blur, least of all this particular album...
god this song is a masterpiece
the most atmospherical song in Leisure... love this album soooo hard
Una de las joyitas del soundtrack de Trainspotting.
bastante bien merecido su status como uno de los mejores soundtracks de la historia del cine
This is so much better than the rest of Leisure. It's kinda incredible how much of a quality gap there is. Sure, I quite like She's So High, There's No Other Way, and Wear Me Down, and there's a few others I like, but Sing is just on a whole other level.
This sound is magical
The B-sides to leisure were much better than a lot of the tracks that made it on to the album. The record company were really in control at that point. Luminous and Inertia are great tunes
I think it's just different. That's the genius of blur - one song can be completely different to the other, yet they are all blur.
Essex Dogs vs Parklife. If you didn't know it was the same band, you would never guess it.
So when you have that variety within one band, the songs become just a matter of taste
@@lukef1586 I agree. Still though, I think Leisure is a classic case of bad dictation. So many better songs they recorded could've been included on the album, but it seems the record label was having none of that.
I love when a band can create music of such varying styles, like a musical chameleon, but the different songs still have to be good and the albums well composed. They and their record label got the hang of it after Leisure.
If you think leisure is a rubbish album then you don't get it. It captured a time where everything was uncertain and led to britpop. This and suede started a whole new genre. You don't get to cherry pick from genius. The album is a classic.
Complete masterpiece this song. BLUR is up there with the greats of this world.
Graham Coxon- genius.
Still not sure how this was on Leisure because it feels not only so different, but just so far above the rest of that record. This would stand out even among Blur's later, more experimental work. Absolutely fucking ridiculous that they made this on their *debut* record.
And it was one of their first song too, back when they were called "Seymour".
"It seemed he had no theory with wich to explain a moment like this. Nor did I."
Takes me back to being 16 again, and discovering 'real' music
The psychedelic sound of Blur
you say melancholy
That Lady on the picture just wants me to listen more..
Trainspotting anyone
arlo jeffery hereee
Thankyou your honour. With God's help I'll conquer this terrible affliction.
I love this song and I love that film!
Just watched it innit. Bangin film
God... the intro caused me shivers... brrrrr...
One of the best songs I have ever heard
Coldplay-Hymn For The Weekend sounds like it took the piano chords from this song.
but its not a shitty popsong
GamersRevengeUK No, but the song Lost! (Also from Coldplay) DID originate from this song
Sophie Asha never realised that till now thanks
Politik from Coldplay got the same snare pattern too hahaha
99% of Coldplay's career originated from this song lol only not as good, the first album was decent to be fair.
sometimes the simplest piano riff turns into magic.
Yes and drums drives this... OMG
listen to astronaut by amanda palmer
@@punkbjork I see some similarities, but Palmer was 2007 and this is years before then. The best pianist IMO is Ben Folds.
This song is 30 years old but sounds like it was made in 2028
This song feels like a mug of hot cocoa on a rainy evening.
For me, this is the highlight of the album.
Intro omg Homesick feelings 💙highschool memories 😍
this song fr has my entire heart makes me wanna bawl when I hear it in trainspotting
Trainspotting such a great movie with a fantastic soundtrack 😭
One of the few songs that makes me feel better in my darker moments. Thank you
"Something like this was bound to happen eventually..."
Beckham doc brought me here 🤙🏾
this has been a favourite since i was a teen in the 90s. what a tune
Well i can see where Coldplay got that nice sounding snare pattern on Politik hahaha
please tell me more people get this comment-
politik is one of my favs :(
Maldición, siempre escucho Politik y Sing, siempre juntas.
blur and coldplay are my two favourite bands of all time and i thought i was imagining the snare similarity, lmao
Chris Martin got inspiration from this song and wrote Lost from Viva la Vida
Great Song
So proud to have grown up in this era & to have been born (Basildon) and breed (Westcliff-OnSea, school: Tommy Mores for lads) in Essex. I can't say anymore than that.
This song is just outstanding. what a band
In a weird way this could have actually fit well on the album 13
Definitely fit well on the 13 album.👍
Full circle moment
For real
I always say this and 1992 are kind of like sister songs
@@noursarhan8695 I think I read somewhere that 1992 was actually an older song they brought back
What's the worth in all of this?
this song hits different while high
Blur have so many great songs.
an early sign of the band's depth.
Beautiful tune love the harmonies in this one a lot ❤️🔥😎👍🏻
Thanks Beckam to remind me this masterpiece
It was certainly a sign of future greatness
they made one of their best songs on their first album seriously
Hell, yeah. It's like they had a time machine send this one back from the "13" and "Think Tank" era. Magnificent stuff.
by far their best song.
Was pleasurable when I listened to it in Trainspotting.
I've always loved this song &, was gutted my mate left it cut in 2 when he recorded it from cd to tape for me (oldskool download lol) way back in 1993.
Tonight something is different. Tonight I'm listening to it as a musician with a decent pedalboard trying to figure out what Graham is actually playing & what effects he's using. Gotta say that only makes the song even better!
27 years & still finding new ways to appreciate them, I FUCKIN LOVE BLUR!!!
Here from Beckhams doco on Netflix
Ahead of its time, incredible
This song moves something within me. Now more than all the years before. Also, the album cover gives me a bite as that woman reminds me on someone long lost.
One of my favourite. Still listening in 2020 !
favourite
I can't choose my otp
One of the most amazing songs every made. Showcases how brilliant,
First heard it in Beckham series on Netflix !! Now just can't get enough of this ^o^!!
First heard it while watching Trainspotting in 1996 2 days before I got sent down for a 2 months stretch in Wormwood scrubs lol
U gotta be kidding😅😂
Sing to me.
HuuuahuuaaHUAAAAAAA
Lalalalalalala
This is actually much better than anything on Blur`s britpop trilogy
This is a Low and Young and Lovely were pretty good
I agree.
I think this is one of blurs best songs but its not better than every britpop song they made
omg this one is so beautiful in the live of 26th June Amsterdam
Saw it a week ago in Primavera Sound...
The birth of Brit pop ladies and gentlemen. LEISURE
i love this song it has a gothic grandeur about it. its like if Erik Satie had formed a rock band this is what it woukd sound like.
Blur playing this song days ago in Chile.
Peak moment fellas...
Magical song
this song mirrors my acceptance of my old friend
The Shoegaze Blur
One of my all time fav songs
For me one of the most beautiful songs ever written.
one of my favorites
Of all time
I adore the Parklive version of this. How into it they are. What a band :)
Came from Beckham Netflix. I often listen it now. It's addictive. A very beautiful song ❤️
This song clears the comb webs.
This extraordinary song sits rather awkwardly in its parent album; a taste of things to come with their eponymous album and "13".
Wow. This came out in 1991. It’s a brilliant, prescient gem- a sign of what was to come in the 90’s with Brit pop. Arguably their best song (and without a doubt their most underrated).
AMAZING " I CAN FEEL THE SWEAT ON MY BACK LIKE A LAIR OF FROST" 😉😋😁
We’ll both be feeling like that when we are both being pumped of Liverpool Real respectively. 😀👍
I love it so much. Thank you!
Una de las mejores canciones de blur
Demencial
This is simply an example of magic. This is not of this world. It was given. By who, or what, I don't know. But it's just too good. To be done by us mere mortals. Sounds like this. Well, there is something higher at play. I truly believe this. Magic.
It certainly was inspired heavily by My Bloody Valentine's Isn't Anything. This whole album in fact sounds like it was based on that album but mixed with the Madchester sound
Es la primera vez que escuchó está canción, ahora entiendo porque todos decían que es una de las mejores en su discografía
MASTERPIECE!! :)
Masterpiece.
lol just discovered this was in trainspotting
this song hits different :')
