I’ve been taking this test for a long time and It seems as if I’m battling between being an ISTP and INTP I’ve even been an INTJ HELP!!
Right their with you man! The next step for me is to go full on "intp mode" and memorize the cognitive functions.
Have you had any luck in the last ten months? Just curious what you ended up thinking you are. Also understanding the cognitive functions is the most important step to typing yourself *accurately* ... At least I think that Ti
Well I’ve come to the conclusion that I am an INTP but deep down in the abyss that is my mind I still feel I can be an ISTP lol But I’ve also researched that INTPs always think they are mistyped I wonder if that’s because of our Exploration function
hi buddy ... may i ask ...? so which profession below is more appropriate for the ISTP function ... mechanic or electrician ... give the logical answer based on the function of the ISTP thank god bless .....
same I got all 3 of them before. But I feel like I'm leaning towards INTP. There are moments where I am more like a ISTP (in leisure time) and other moments where I am like an INTJ (in school), but I feel like I'm an INTP in default mode
A lot of tests ask questions for N vs S that sound more like intelligence than how one interacts with the world.
An intelligent STP will see patterns, understand the rules behind the game or how things work, etc. We're not stupid. We're just Sensors first. But many tests seem to equate the ability to recognize patterns as N.
ISTPs are likely to be much more organised, neater, with the ability to see the material workd in clear terms and to take in material information easier, and utilise it. INTPs are likely to be more disorganised, to plan less, to operate more on impulse, our rooms are a mess, our desks are a mess, we do not even see objects in front of us unless we are specifically looking for them. That's the biggest difference. We are more on our heads than ISTPs. We are thinkers and they are doers.
I took the Sakinorva test and test strongly in both Ne and Ni. Ne is stronger, but as a whole I am clearly intuitive with both kinds of tuition strong in my personality. Nonetheless I am also INTP in every test, including yours. I would suggest a biggest distinction between INTP abd ISTP is sensing, with those guys being strongly SE and much more so than INTP, where SE is polar. It's actually not hard to tell the difference. They live on the real world. We live in a world of our own.
I took one test with seven options on each question and very long , and got INTP twice over a year apart....yesterday after INTP results I decided to try 2 other tests and got ISTP twice. these tests were a lot shorter with less options (and badly worded). Both examples you gave apply to me.
I seem to be a good blend of both
Same Same
I'm seeing a bit of an oddity here with myself, I took a test a couple months ago and it said I was INTP, I took another today and it said I was ISTP... I take traits from both points you made about these personality intuition perspectives, the outside world and how it affects me, and how others perceive me affects me, as well as being stuck in a comfort zone.
With personality theory you should consider that we all use all functions. Beyond that it's just measuring life patterns, and matching it to defined terms in the theory
IMO a lot of tests tend to mistype intelligent S types as Ns. Too many questions sound like "are you an idiot? S!"
E.g anyone intelligent will see patterns. That by itself doesn't make an N IME.
I both worry people are out to get me and tends to stay in my comfort zone.
INTP and ISTP are both similars, as yet if any some switched of the two similarities on a small shift are might be possible as easier than to shift in a short time against any opposite personality degrees,
As hence for shifting and it is always possible at all times based from the degrees of independent studies or elementary acquisitions for progressing the most varies of possible changes and level orders of shift that we wishes to change it daramatically.
(As my own insights only)
As an istp this is completely on point!
can you guys talk about aspirations? i think you've made a video where you referenced john beebe and the idea that the fourth function is aspirational...through your observation, do you find this to be the case? is it possible that any type can aspire to be any/thing/? i have the inkling that INTPs have aspirations to be ISXP-esque. INTPs seem to envy SP mechanical savviness and ability to quickly respond to the outside world. in particular, INTPs seem to envy ISFP awareness of one's own values and motivations. what do you think?
Is there a definitive way to diferentiate INTPs from INTJs?
One(INTP) is ocd with add like overtones as they are ruled by curiosity, the other is constantly questioning loyalty levels of other people as they are ruled by suspicion(but they are more down to earth and great planners).
they made a video about it; essentially INTJs see information as actionable, whereas INTPs will be happy to theorise/ponder just because they enjoy thinking for its own sake
Spike
My observations as an INTP:
If they find seemingly-useless things fascinating for their own sake, they’re probably INTP. I just watched three videos about percussion techniques for the triangle, but I have zero intention of playing or composing for it. Before that, I read answers on 20 different unrelated topics in three languages on Quora. My phone’s internet browser has 72 tabs open right now. If they prioritize which information to look at based on how useful it is, they’re probably INTJ. An INTJ will also happily watch many videos about proper triangle technique if they play it, might play it, or might compose music including it, but not if they have absolutely no triangle-related intentions for the future. It’s a waste of their precious time for their actual personal projects. INTPs always want to just know more than we do now, and sometimes we end up with useful skills along the way. INTJs are also power learners but in a more focused way because they mostly want to improve their skills. They love the sense of satisfaction from accomplishments but sometimes don’t really get the concept of pure “fun” and why it’s not always a waste of time to do something with no end goal. Their “fun” is often more personal work. They want to finish everything they start unless its usefulness becomes obsolete . INTPs will usually have a bunch of unfinished personal projects we’ve just lost interest in and may or may not return to.
If they have a regular personal routine that isn’t *externally* imposed and that they don’t like interrupting, they’re almost certainly not INTP. When left to our own devices, INTPs like to follow our whims and whatever new, interesting things we happen to encounter each day and are usually easily distracted. We can learn to set routines for ourselves, but it’s not easy for us. Even more than we do to INTJs sometimes, we drive people like ISTJs and ESTJs absolutely nuts with our inconsistency.
INTPs do think about the future a lot but are more likely to be fine using some improvised trial and error and planning less far ahead because of all the variables that will probably throw any plan with too many steps off track at some point, anyway. INTJs will game things out in their heads as much as possible beforehand and then be thrown off if their expectations were wrong. (INTJs will tell you they’re never wrong. Oh yes, they are! They can be weirdly blind about some things when they make their initial calculations.)
If they can pull off being charming and appear extroverted for short periods of time, they’re probably an INTP. It takes us a lot of study of other humans to learn, and other humans are still baffling sometimes, but we can eventually learn to “act human” better than INTJs do if we try. We’re better at varying the way we act to fit different social situations, change our entire energy with different people more, have more animated facial expressions and care more about what other people think of us (just not nearly as much as the types with higher Fe). Both types tend to accidentally offend people unintentionally with our honesty and not like lying just to make people feel better, but INTJs are more likely to not even understand why someone is offended by what they do or say. An INTP will usually know why but still think the person shouldn’t be so offended.
INTJs are better at doing things they don’t like but that help reach a goal. They’re better at maintaining good hygiene and dressing for success. They hate networking but will do it when they know they have to. They don’t like managing people but will use other people to reach their goals. An INTP is more likely to skip the things we hate even when we know we’d be more successful if we did them, though of course we still have to do a lot of things we don’t want to.
okay sir thank you for giving your view ... God bless you and your family ..... can I ask more specifically ..? in general it is true that ISTPs can be very skilled at mastering any skilled trade ... but in this case .. in your opinion .. which of these 2 jobs is the most permanent for ISTP if one is required to choose one of them .... ??? electrician or mechanic ...? give me the answer and the logical reason sir ... thank you again ... god takes care of you and your family ...
I think INTP and INFP are harder to tell apart than ISTP/INTP.
Help me. technically i am and I identify with ISTP but sometimes I think I'm INTP because I'm also very intuitive and like to talk about theories etc, sometimes I'm more conservative than explorer and I don't identify with crafts ( mechanical..) and I’m always procrastinating like intp’s but on the other hand I'm quite direct, I don't go into details and I like to internalize everything before I speak ( Istp)
Conspiracy theories may also correlate with high fi. It is belief-based, not thinking based. I suspect ISTPs are not big conspiracy theorists either - maybe only in grip mode.
Perhaps Low Ti could facilitate conspiracy theory. Not high Ti. Very few theories of that nature hold up to the light of logic. By definition conspiracy theory is not cogent theory.
What you've described with ISTP is not 'conspiracy theorising', it is paranoia. That's a whole other thing.
Look to Fi-Te for conspiracy theory. Not Ti-Fe.
Sorry that's the most visible difference. There are other differences.
