I’m an ISTP and I work in food/customer service mostly as far as work goes. I’m only 24 and through life I’ve not really stuck to one of these styles. I’m an Eagle Scout, Music Education college dropout, and now a Baker. So to me it feels like I’ve been all of these already at someplace in my life. Don’t want too massive of a comment but I’m at the point where I still don’t know exactly what I want to be doing other than helping people.

ISTP here. Creative sits most with me. Though some of the normalizing is me as well.

I think Czech president Petr Pavel could be a dominant subtype of an ISTP.

As a 42 old istp I can tell you welding is a good fit especially if you have adhd. I think to be really good you need to have adhd.

I felt identified with the Dominant, and a little bit with the Harmony as well.
I'm an engineer, and started working in the mining industry... I don't know how I ended making a carrer in Finance, but after 7 years I just had to quit.
I know I can manage people fairly well and I'm good with numbers... however I couldn't tolerate another day sitting in a desk in front of a fucking screen all day, going to the same place every day, doing the same things all days... I feel I NEED to be moving and more in contact with nature. That's why I'm now trying to shift to a more hands on job, and I don't care if I need start all over again from zero, I know I'll be fine

I have a painting company and identify with the creative type for sure. Get lots of satisfaction making homes looking nice and flipping homes personally.

Harmonizing sounds pretty accurate for me, good analysis!

I'm an ISTP and I used to be an Architectural Draftsman for six years. Its too abstract and unstable, especially since COVID. I tried several other jobs and found myself to get bored easily. The people side of things make it hard. I tend to be "too blunt, too logical and too much of a loner" for most employers. Not to mention people in my country tend to be oversensitive and consider me offensive when I never mean to be offensive.

I’m ISTP 4w5. I worked with foster kids for ten years, learned a lot of communication skills (it was SO hard and I was deeply depressed and it didnt make much money), it was also scary having to be social and all that. I studied psychology in college, I’ve always been interested with the human mind, I thought I was broken. I went back to school for nursing and am now a hospice nurse for the last 6.5 years. I have lots of autonomy, drive around town, get downtime between patients, and it’s good money and emotionally rewarding (although can sometimes be emotionally exhausting, let’s face it people can be pretty annoying lol). But I love being one-on-one with my patients. And I love dementia patients. Sometimes I meet elderly INFPs and we share such strong connections. And I meet some other really special people. I enjoy making the connections and I also like that there is an end date to it.
I’m definitely Harmonizing. A lot of the creative fit me as well. And I can relate to bits of the others. I do jiu jitsu and have done psychedelics haha. Meditation is too boring though. But I do mildly and moderately dissociate (once I remember it felt like I was floating above my body) and have depersonalization tendencies, and have had countless panic attacks … but since psychedelics (I used them with intention) I haven’t had any panic attacks (yet) and I put myself in situations to test myself.
I love that you said Harmonizing is unique and different , I’ve felt different all my life. Thanks for the validation. I have lots of ENFP friends, I really enjoy NT and NF types. But can also get along well with any type. I’d say the type I’ve had the biggest difficulties with in my life has been ESFJs. Some have been cool. But like 90% of them have been abusive or annoying or controlling or manipulative… etc

I tested INFJ 5 years ago. And was professionally typed ISTP a year later, it fits. Opened up room for lots of growth.
As for my enneagram type…. I studied all the types/wings and identified it via the process of elimination. Ultimately, type 4 was the type that hit my heart wound the hardest. Strong 5 wing. And strong in 1 and 2 (which makes sense because 4 has lines to both 1 and 2). Tritype 496.
A thorough book to read is “personality types: using the enneagram for self-discovery” by Don Richard Riso & Russ Hudson (orange cover)
If you like reading about pathology, read “character and neuroses” by Claudio Naranjo (red cover)

You just described me exactly. Had different careers until I needed up in nursing where I really enjoy one on one with my patients. Did some psychedelics which to some great extent reduced my anxiety and panic attacks

Also studied Psychology only to later regret it 😂 had no clue I was an Istp until recently. I wish I would’ve known sooner, I would’ve picked a much different direction.
Also creative, but also heavily enjoy logic and critical thinking. And yes, people are annoying. I’ve tried to force myself to be a people person but am becoming accepting of the fact that I’m honestly just not. I’m friendly. But I need a lot more privacy and downtown than I need social interaction.
Have also bonded with a lot of NT people and some NPs too. And yes, those with Fe higher on their function stack, I find to be awkwardly manipulative as well.

A good indicator of best-fit is that the person resonates with all 4 (or at least 3 of the 4 subtypes) to some extent, but only say 1 subtype of any other type they are considering. And since these are developmental, one would hope that opportunity plus initiative allow a person to explore all sides of their type at some point.

Same here, I can resonate with all of the types but the dominant hits the nail on the head. Even when I was very young, the patterns are consistent and have never varied.

I'm not a harmonizing type.. but a lot of istp are harmonizers believe it or not. we're a lot kinder than people think.. we have inferior fe after all.. so it's more common than people think.

I have made it a point to segregate my personal life and career into separate boxes.
In my career, I have worked 40-80hrs a week for more than 20years as a software engineer or systems engineer with a niche focus. I would consider this nornalizing.
However, I often find my self in a leadership role amongst my peers in both personal and career which is dominant. I don't ask for it, and dont really want it. Instead, I try to be mentor and leave leadership to others. I suspect it is the confidence that attracts others.
In my personal life, I am more of a creative sub-type... I often wish I could be a creative more. It brings inner peace for me. My career funds my crafter side in my personal life.
As a result, I always tell my self the financial gains I make with my specialized career is a means to an end. It will afford me the ability in the present to acquire the tools, equipment, and a secluded dream property that I can "retire" to and pursue work at my leisure in the trades and crafts that bring me the most peace. I would likely continue to mentor by teaching others what I have learned.
I choose to specialize for maximum return in the present for the ability to achieve things that really matter to me in the future.

Unless you’re an ISTP, who is super focused and really want to learn more about that specific thing. If it’s boring then yes but if it can be super insightful and helpful to that person they most certainly watch it.
Personally I never watch UA-cam or videos, I find them boring and hard to watch but I’ve watched this whole video and many others explaining my personality type. It really helps put focus on things we don’t understand about ourselves.
