    This was a video I really took to heart. Around this time, I was barely benching over 275 lbs with elbows flaring like an eagle in the sky. So I did ABSOLUTELY everything said in this video and a year later, I'm benching 320lbs with no spotter (don't do this btw). UA-cam videos like this one saved my life. Thank you Brian Alsruhe!!!

    That leg drive cue is great, thank you!

    • @obeycelestia
      @obeycelestia 6 років тому +4

      I couldn't get anything CLOSE to leg drive into the bench until I got my lats firing in the setup and the movement... which took a coach sticking her fingers into my back until I fired them and locked it in and her telling me that's what lats feels like. I way underestimated the importance of mind muscle connection and how little I actually knew about my own body.

    • @MrUseless247
      @MrUseless247 6 років тому +1

      I never use my leg drive until my last couple of reps and sometimes my last set. IDK if that's a good thing, I was told not to use your legs until you need to.

    • @obeycelestia
      @obeycelestia 6 років тому +1

      I just never felt a way actually use my lets at all until I found the lat connection to complete the circuit from my traps to my feet.

    The hardest thing aside from mastering the leg drive, is keeping the shoulder blades retracted.

    Man I really needed this. I haven't reviewed a bench video in months, and my habits have suffered. Failed rep 4 at 85% just the other day. I should have known when your angling tip for self-liftoff wasn't working and I couldn't work out why.

  • @iamabean

    I love this video. I applied the tips to my bench and i can feel the difference. I think most people think that leg drive is only the explosive push at the bottom of the lift. However using your legs to gradually push your body northward during the descending phase and explode at the bottom is actually very helpful

    Thanks for the video. I'm glad I discovered your channel. I've learned a lot so far as a beginner. I also applied the breathing technique you spoke about in another video for my bench press and it felt so much better. I felt like I was going to pop, but the weights went up easier and I felt I had more control. There was so much pressure that I accidentally spat a little saliva out and it shot into the air a good few feet and then landed right in my bloody eye. Not cool.

  • @the_humph
    @the_humph 6 років тому

    You've just answered a question I've been stressing myself with. I get stuck halfway up and was wondering if it might be due to grip width and not tucking elbows enough. My narrow grip is comparable to my comp grip which is pretty wide due to previous advice to go as wide as I can because I have long arm. You saying elbows have nowhere to go and getting stuck is exactly what happens to me. Going to narrow my grip and get the elbows in a better position mechanically, see how that comes off. Great to have you back doing this stuff, solid advice as always.

    You could start adding instructional videos on some of the press, bench, squat & deadlift variations that you do for Conjugate rather than just the main 4 lifts. Something like Floor Press, CG Bench, different deadlift variations like car deadlift simulations, squat variations.. to a box (& why that height). Things of that nature may give you some more content and help out the mass of viewers.
