As a European/German woman I could not find the patience within me to watch this clichéd nonsense till the end, even though I generally love Ryan's reactions. Did this American whose video Ryan reacts to grow up under a stone or what? If I leave my apartment and walk 50 meters to the next underground stop, I will see at least 50 types of totally different women and men, different generations, different ethnicity, different clothing styles, different behaviours. Once on the underground or at the central station, this guy's mind would be blown by the heterogeneity of people in a German city alone, not to speak of Germany or even Europe in its entirety!... To be fair though, he did preface his video by saying that Europe is comprised of many different cultures and ethnicities and that his characterization is merely a rough description. And to be even more fair, there are definitely places in Europe that fit into his rough description. For example here in Switzerland, women do dress quite formally and traditionally feminine most of the time. The same can be said for France and for Eastern European countries such as Poland, Ukraine, Russia etc.. I'm not sure Germany is a good example because its culture has been highly Americanized since WWII, just like that of the UK. Besides, even Germany isn't all cities and urban subcultures. There are rural regions where alternative styles of dressing are way less common than in Berlin or Hamburg.

The main two adjectives the USA employs to describe someones intelligence are just "dumb" or "smart". All those beautiful words like "canny", "clever" "sharp" "astute" "adept" "brilliant" "knowledgable" "well-read" "well-educated" "witty" "quick-witted" "perceptive" "shrewd" "percspicacious"" "".....are just the ones that come to mind - doubtless any Thesaurus has heaps more. But these are all ways to describe a "smart" person...there are so many different kinds of intelligence and we have words that fit them all.
As for "dumb" - a word I've never heard used to describe a person except for people from the US - but there's "thick", "slow-witted" "uneducated" "slow" "dim" "obvious" "uninformed" "dense" "inane" "foolish" "ridiculous " "mindless" "silly" "daft"....because there are also many different kinds of "dumbness" which have no correlation with a person's IQ.
As you'll see from the comments, "smart" to most English speakers means "chic" "sophisticated" "elegant" "fashionable" "well-groomed" "trim" "neat" "spruced up" "dapper" "edgy". So, if people from the US are described as "Smart" no-one's referring to their brain-power but to their dress sense!

      I have to concur.
The word dumb doesn't even mean stupid, it means someone who lacks the ability to talk.
Deaf and dumb was a common phrase back in my youth because most people who are deaf can't hear their own voice and are therefore also dumb.
It has nothing to do with being dim-witted.
I was married to an American for 15 years and I was astonished at how lazy their language is.

In Norway you will not usually see woman wearing skirts or dresses when working in a shop or any other place that women in Germany or eastern European countries. In the summer some women will wear a summer dress on a hot day, but most women would wear a shorter pants and just a t-shirt or a tank top and crocks or sneakeers. As it's cold most of the year we usually also wear some sort of woolen sweather or jacket that we or our mother or grandmother knitted for us. We usually wear an all weather jacket, it's a regular jacket that is wind and rain proof but is not a rain jacket or a winter jacket but like a hybrid as we usually can have a lot of weather changes in a few hours from warm and sunny to snowy and cold, and it's usually a lot of wind. Sweds and Finns wear pretty much the same type of clothing, but I think danes is more like women in Italy and France, maybe because it's warmer climate there or maybe because more danes is religious than Norwegians and Sweds and Finns. I don't know how many of the Finns that is religious, but they sure swear a lot in every movie. Women in Oslo is wearing more make up than people in other parts of Norway I think.

About ten years ago I was looking to buy a new apartment and I noticed that all the men who were showing them were dressed in a suit. Also in banks, insurance companies, that sort of thing, employees dress carefully to create a "professional" impression. Most Danes only uses the churches for marrying, baptism and other traditional stuff, but most don't attend their weekly things...
"Copenhagen isn't Denmark" Well, with over one fifth of the population lives in the Copenhagen area alone, it gives a good idea of the common people of the Danes -As a lot of people moves from the country to Copenhagen and it's nearby area making it very different to other cities in Denmark. There's so many different people from all over Denmark living there, so no wonder Copenhagen are mentioned when other countries talks about Denmark.

Starting grade 4 they start learning an additional 3rd language of their choice (they can chose out of 2 or 3 languages available in that particular school, and the class will be shuffled according to the kids language choices)
Yes, and we dress smartly. Smartly means decent. Something close to formal/classy but not too formal, with a timge of casual or artistic. Sports wear and a messy bun is for lazy people who have given up and don't care anymore (it doesn't even fall under casual). Jeans are a staple for both genders as every day casual wear, usually couple with a stylish blowse for women. T shirts and tank tops for women is more on the level as sports wear. Dresses during summer are very popular. T shirts for men are great for garden barbeque or camping or a game nigh, and ok for every day wear for a teenager or younger... But for a day in the city, a nice button up shirt with a jacket definetly is a plus.

Anyone think it's strange that Americans don't like to travel overseas "because of the two big oceans"? You'll find Aussie travellers all over the world and we are surrounded by "two big oceans". Personally, I have been to around 40 countries, including the USA five times. It takes 26+ hours to get from Oz to Europe, but only 7 hours from NY, yet I have travelled to Europe 10 times. As cringe as that sounds.

Also, they’re much more diverse because of the culture there. But remember that since we are somewhat a product of our surroundings that’s going to happen. Everything is fried in Louisiana coupled with not much to do exercise wise unless you go to a gym. That’s evident in the fact that there are way fewer sidewalks down south. In California there are bike trails and lanes everywhere. The ocean, the mountains just so much more to do. But southern women have their own strong points when it comes to their charm and generally treating their bf/husband/other somewhat better. And the accent is pretty great. So just a study of women in America would be fun. But again, controversial.

In the U.k. we got a large influx of Eastern Europeans in the mid noughties. A lot of the women wore full make up, hair done, high heels, full glamour just to go grocery shopping! And they were much slimmer than the average British woman too. 20 years on, however, they have adapted to our ways (which are basically the same as American) and now I see that full glamour less and less and they have started eating our junk food and have got bigger as a result. (the U.K. is basically the 51st State of America lol)

Think office clothing instead of kiosk, grocery store, or similar clothing.

In reply to your question Ryan, in most European countries school programme include learning 2 other language on top of your native one (except the UK). In France, for example English is obligatory between age 10 and 18, and you can choose German, Italian, Spanish as a second extra language between age 11 and 18 (approx). Personally I am French and I learned : English, Spanish and Italian (until I was 23).

ok hear me out, the point he made about dutch trams and subways is actually astoundingly true lol. I'm from Italy and I've been to the netherlands a bunch of times, and although in Milan on the subway there may be definetely a good bunch of beautiful girls, mostly university students i guess, there are also tons of women that look all stressed out due to work and some clearly have difficult economic situations, mainly immigrants , added up to the stress of the city and all they don't quite have the luxury to care about their aesthetics.
But in the Netherlands it's crazy. Everywhere you go you're surrounded by angels (ok, I may be biased towards blue haired blondies, but there're also MANY black people in the netherlands, and the girls/women can be just as good looking), but not just younger girls. I saw some of the most beautiful moms I've ever seen on dutch trains. And by comparing it directly to Italy they definetely care less about heavy make up and fancy clothes in the netherlands, yet they aòways look stunning just naturally for the most part.
This will probably sound weird at some points but hey, that's like the entire video lol. It's pretty hard to avoid evry possible controversy when talking about this stuff honestly

Over here we have women traveling on trams and trains. in the USA they're transporting whales and pigs :D
In europe we're reserved about our feelings? dude we're more clear and direct. especially in the netherlands. "hey this date went well. i like you. lets go to the next stage" and then the other responds clearly so you know straight up what's what.
