What a masterclass on sculling from Obreno. The 50 seconds from 0:24 until 1:14 is fantastic to watch. Such smooth, effortless movement on the recovery with absolutely no rush, an incredibly fluid catch devoid of any rush with a very smooth turnaround into the drive...absolutely gorgeous.
The biggest difference between the two was the blade depth. Mahe rowed like he was trying to touch the bottom of the river with his blade placement. Mahe was actually doing not alot wrong outside of this I thought Mahe was actually picking the boat up quicker than Obreno it just wasn't smooth due to the deep catches. I thought Obreno rowed well I wouldn't call it a sculling masterclass technically his blade work missed a little bit of water at the catch. Mahe's very poor bladework just made Obreno look good as there were only two boats to look at.
Obreno looks like he's keeping up with Mahe effortlessly for most of the race. Also, considering Obreno weighs 15 kg less than Drysdale I would say there's more to it than you make it seem. In my opinion, Obreno is currently the most talented (yet not the strongest) sculler around. His 1.84 height and 80-85ish kg weight make his performances even more amazing. Beating Drysdale twice, Holland Beker 2013 and this Diamond Sculls combined with getting a 4th place in the 2016 Olympics supports his incredible technique.
Are you honestly saying a double (easily could've been triple) olympic champion and one of the greatest scullers ever was making such a simple mistake? Clearly you are new to rowing as mahe sculls like that in every race. This was a stand out performance from Obreno and likely a bad day/not a peak for mahe
@@rickkybobby8118 Yes agreed ....but Mahe is the classic huge/mega-powerful sculler.....can afford go really deep.....probably he would go even faster if he went less deep. Just cos he has multiple world / Olympic titles doesn’t mean he could not be even greater? Has yet to overtake S A Mackenzie Henley Diamonds wins!!

Top 5 of greatest races and biggest upsets at Henley IMO. Will always be remembered. Some of the best sculling and biggest balls you will ever see.
unbelievable result, well done to Obreno
An all time classic, a titanic battle. Great fight, great commentary. Sporting perfection

I don’t think you have any room to critic an Olympic champion like you just have.

But who won the big Olympic prize. Make always said HRR was a training outing for him in the build up
I am surprised.he humiliated mahe at finish
messi king good on him. Not everyone can say they beat the King of Rowing
Star Hemi Even the King must have the dignity to know when he must relinquish to support the next generation.
what Mahe loses!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
