Lada hand crank start

- I made an attempt of starting my Lada with a hand crank, and it went smoother than I'd thought. It was unstarted for a week. The preparations I did before starting, was removing the license plate to access the hole in the bumper, turning on the ignition and pulling the choke out fully. Of course I also checked that it was not in gear =)

Beautiful car, congrats!
These Ladas are very rare in this condition, take care of her :)
That's so cool! I'd love to do that in a crowded shopping mall car park!
They actually designed it so there is no way you get hurt.
That's a beautiful condition for such an old car!
What is fascinating is the amount of literature you can get for Ladas. Most is in russian, but Haynes has also published marvelous book about servicing Samara. With such high quality literature nobody can take better care of a Lada than loving owner.
Great video, great car; absolutley indestructable!
The car seems to be in great shape! Excellent!!
All cars today should have this!
Mein erste Auto war ein 1500-er Lada.
Ich habe einmal versucht, ihn mit der Hand anzuwerfen.
Seitdem weiß ich, warum der Ostblock so viele Spitzen-Sportler hervorgebracht hat.
😜😝💪💪💪
Hi there, you have one of the most beautiful ladas mate. (Y)
My starter is wasted too at the moment (I have 2101) and I'm gonna try my hand crank out too! Hope I can get my var working.
Cheers and take care for your VAZ! :)
Runs nice. Keep it beautiful!
I have the same lada staying in the garage and use a hand crank to start the engine from time to time without discharging the battery:)
2103 rulez!!!
I've got one too!
Regards from Poland!
actually it is recommended in the old 70s manuals to turn the engine over a few times without ignition, to break stiffened oil before the starter motor is used the normal way.
I think if nowadays you use fully synthetic oil its no longer an issue
nice lada bro!
I had a 2106, same color, same condition :)
Oh mani remmeber my great grand father had those on his wartburg wagon !!!
Beatiful.... Car..
Very nice start
Great car !
Капитальный красавчик
I had Lada 1200L -72 model, in Finland. My frieds didnt believe, that lada was crank start. In summer, motor started on one try. LOL, in Finnish gas station, many people looked wtf. "LUJAA LAATUA LADA" strong quality Lada free translation.
what a neat little automobile! that would look cool beside my old beetle.
Preservation is the name of the game!
WOW! nice start up xD
@McLarenMercedes It's mostly for people living in colder countries. Like the original version (Fiat 124) not had this option, only the early russian models (with round headlight). Even if you want to start the engine using the anlasser, you can make the starting procedure much easier at extreme low temperature (when the battery is very weak), with "breaking" the ice cold oil and let rich mixture into the engine turning it by hand. But it helps adjusting ignition or the chain tension by the way.
my father used to own a Peugeot 403 and 404, they had the same setup: handcrank through the bumper.
That would be nice for winter
this is VAZ-2103 ;) You don't have to beg anyone to help, you are a boss with your hand crank ;)
@McLarenMercedes Simpler carmodels with few horsepowers from Renault could also be hand cranked, (atleast until the early seventies) using the opposite side of the original tool for wheel replacement. Very handy in cold winter conditions.
I have to buy one!!!
I absolutely love it. The car and the hand crank! I wish more older vehicles had this capability, it would definitely save your azz when stranded with a dead battery. I wonder how difficult it would be to turn over the 4.1L Inline Six in my 1974 Chevrolet C10... heheh. I'd honestly like to have the capability. The truck is very basic, manual brakes, 3 speed trans, and manual steering. I love the simplicity of it and plan to change none of those (except perhaps a manual transmission with more gears).
Great car. I appreciate your sharing of the vehicle and the capability of crank start on a more recent vehicle than what we're used to in the states.
Everyone hates on the 3 speed manuals. The thing is, in those old trucks the 4 speeds had a crawler first that the majority of truck owners never actually needed, making them effectively 3 speeds
@@isaakwelch3451 yes I had thought about a truck 4 speed overdrive, which is a bit rare, or a 4 speed out of a 70s Chevy car that had an Inline 6 or V-8. I don't need the extra low gear in this truck, it'll never be worked *that* hard lol. It would benefit more from a higher top gear.
@@johntaurus5399 sounds like you need a set of highway gears
awesome
LOL, Wow! Hand crank eh? Glad to see it still works! Sure don't make 'em like they used to.
NICE
@McLarenMercedes it's on all of the ladas. but not for engine start(normally) it used for adjusting the valves.(the gap)
@LadaNorway he meant they last for a long time. Ever been to cuba? Theres more Ladas in the street than toyotas in america.
@cliffthelightning obviously you won't be able to start it if it was on gear. it is that tight
nice car, the Riva
i tried that once with my car (not lada) it didn't work... the engine has too much compression and i couldn't even budge it...
nice car:D i love LADA
Great looking car. I wish that the USA had better trade relations with Russia.
SUPER
it is good that you can make and so if the battery is discharged
@WolfTrucker92 my 1993 Jeep Cherokee was having battery problems the last 2 months, I think I've had to ask for a jump start about 8-10 times. I would have loved having the option of a hand crank, at least then I wouldn't have to be scared of getting stranded somewhere isolated
I agree.
krubla je zakon :D
Did the old Ladas use 'safety' glass like today?
lada its diy car -)
que genial
Как новая! Такую сейчас не найдёшь!
You are doing it very very dangerous way!!! It's very dangerous to pull the crank down! If it kicks back, it surely broke your arm or even kill you to loss of blood when your hand is cutted off!!!
Always pull crank up with open hand. Then the possible kick back couldn't harm you.
in the Lada engine it is impossible the kick back. And even if it'd have been the case, the crank disengages.
Beautiful car! Lada Rules!. It's a shame they are in short supply in England. Mind you I have got 4 !.
cool feature modern cars don't have :p
but gotta be careful for you can hit your hands on the ground.
on moskvich you can just turn the numberplate down, and after start it will go back to the original stand
just try to keep your knuckles away from the crank once the car starts :)
i love russian cars, i got volga 24 and im restoring it. and yes volga has this thing too, but its very hard to start it that way lol.
@dimkavenom (well i understood what you say, but i don't like talking in Russian) I'm not from Vilnius and yes here are lots of Russian cars (mostly ZIL's, lada's, GAZ 53's... but on rare occasions you can see one or two volgas)
This car came with a hand crank up until 1998, that’s crazy to me
Made for Sibiria - if battery is frozen!
Hey, i just bought a Lada 2106 from 91. It has the same color as yours, but i dont now the Color code of this blue. Do you know the name of this color or the code? Thanks in advance.
It doesn't have a self starter ?
This is a 2103 and my 21053 has this car's engine as the 3 of the type 21053 says.. so on the motor there you can find the crank hole but on the carosserie no hole :)
I'm from Denmark, and have a lada 1200, with the hand crank hole, but I don't have the hand crank hadle. Do you know where/how I can get one?
avito ru
I had a Triumph 2000 that constantly drained the battery, if I remembered I'd park on a hill to bump in the morning, otherwise I'd bump it on the flat on my own :) could'nt do that now lol, handle would have been handy :)
Lada? Does it have Lucas Electrics?
@Barbarossaterv Rajta van a csúzli. Írja is a leírásban.
Троечка... Как их мало осталось...
Maybe turn off the ignition via a counterclockwise turn of the key :)
Until when did 2103s and 2101s have handcranks?
Igazi hideg indítás esetén már baj lenne. Gyújtási időpont, akkumulátor, gyertyahézag, minden oké?
you should cup the crank handle open handed with your hand in the shape of U.
Interesting. Did this hand crank come equiped on older Ladas? Never seen one ever, and not heard anything about it even in the former Soviet Union.
Was this some option for people in the countryside which had limited use of electricity? Or just a back up in case the battery got drained?
yes, every car had been equipped with this crank handle
как это ты не знал об этом??

Лада в Норвегии?:))
Actually, with the heft and compression of today's engines most people would not have the brawn to be able to crank fast enough for it to start.
3…😊
какая обратка?оО
What year is thar car?
1980.
i wisd ID had vaz 2103 1600 and 1300s

Author please set this video as a response to the video aspectual "Paavon Lada ei starttaa II". :))
Try that on a cold Russian morning!
save the power and planet, hand crank instead of using the starter motor :D
Типа как бы фары то выключить надо!!!
what if you crankstart it and its in gear? wil it like run you over
😂😂😂
Someone can't use a starter handle !
on a car that new
Я конечно понимаю что жигулям далеко до современных авто, но чтоб настолько-
húú de magas az alapjárata
Il 124 non ne era dotato.
Если зажигание нормально выставить ,то не прилетит...,а по раньше сделать ,так нокдаун обеспечен.
@webhijacker1...talkin' about yourself again huh.
а по другому она и не заведется
wtf, never see lada hand start! only Moskvich
in russia , car cranks YOU
the slander and evil propaganda
@LOPEZdJUNGLIST Car prostitutes...
steamwally PLEASE! Don't make me laugh any harder! Lada probably might be the Russian word for shit. My dad had to rent one when he was in Greece a long time ago and it was so bad that the odometer winds back when in reverse! And that scene in the movie "Company Business" where the good guys just kicked the door to break into it is somewhat true. Parts do fall off. It was in one car magazine's list of the 10 worst cars ever made. Also, they love, LOOOOOVE rust!
