After hearing the voice acting issue, I realized how ironic that the Kindred of the Tusk are the ones who actually talk while the Blue Song communicate with signals. It's so weird and yet it works.

It’s also a good subversion of the idea of “evolutionary superiority” and, in particular, the idea of more basal “croc-brained” theropods being stupid compared to the more bird-like coelurosaurs (which was an idea that came about before we realized how smart crocodiles were).

i really love how taurox sort of goes against the typical fantasy orc design. a lot of orcs are depicted as super chiseled, like professional bodybuilders. taurox however, is built like a real weightlifter. his muscle isnt super defined, but he's bulky and solid, shaped like a barrel rather than a dorito. his design doesnt emanate the flashy spectacle strength of a superhero. he's meant to have plain, simple brawn. taurox is a guy who doesnt need to put his strength on display, but put it into use.

In a Dante's Inferno type underworld, a species of Troodont acted as the BlueSong, and "saved" sinners who came to them by turning them into half archosaur beings called Saurians (like the Kindred of the Tusk). In actuality, the Saurians were being robbed of their humanity by these "deals with devils".

I think a common complaint I saw about the series early on was how Taurox’s muffled voice was somewhat hard to understand, but I feel like this could actually strengthen the lore even more. Since his species is more primitive, maybe their ability to speak is simply not as developed as the main kindred species.

I'm most interested in your character designs for this series. The Blue Song's battle beasts are mostly traditionally herbivores, while the "wild" factions you've shown us are mostly traditional carnivores. It gives a very interesting contrast between how each military culture developed (I immediately thought of the war elephants used by many old empires including for a time the Roman empire) and the more apparent gap in overall cultural development between factions; Blue Song seem to have entered their renaissance period, filled with art and innovation and ideas, which they pit against what they consequently view as a less intelligent savagery of the still tribal factions like the Tusks.
Also your mention that the Taurox is actually a separate species from the rest of his Kindred was especially interesting: I read a lot of the WoW comics and one in particular mentioned how the Night Elves revered their members who were variants - children born with antlers were considered sacred and chosen for greatness. That trend seems to follow with the Blue Songs, where selective "prominent" officers and leaders all have antlers while the general populace don't. The added detail of their pupil-less eyes in both the Chancellor and Taurox gives them that ancient elder aura that you aimed for, and to be honest was the very first detail I latched onto that told me, "These two have seen everything."
And then there is Taurox's relationship with the Bull and then the young carno. It is powerful and feels almost akin to how we imagine the very beginning of humanity's first co-existing with the wolves that would become proto-dogs and then dogs, the very first documented species to be domesticated. To a lesser extent it reminds me of the Wolf Riders of Elfquest, who were also a tribal family thrown amongst more advanced oppositions from every corner, but in everything they have that one constant: each wolf rider bonds with a wild wolf, not a domestic animal, and that wolf is their brother/sister until death.
It's a lot of thought and writing this comment is gonna make me late for work, but I had to write it in response to your question: Is it working? Yes. Yes it is.

    • @monkeyinred6742
      @monkeyinred6742 Рік тому +1

I'm with you on most of this, but I disagree with the Bluesong being in a renaissance. The whole dynamic with the cultured imperialists versus the barbarians that are just defending themselves is a pretty spot-on parallel to the ancient Roman empire.

When I was in the early stages of creating a high sci-fi setting for my TTRPG I become so overwelled with doubt on every decision once it started taking shape. To the point where I'd ask a friend about it, and go on a long rant of "Is this alright? Do thing this works?" Honestly, it works even if it was noticeable that those characters sound like they’re voiced by the same person since it just expands that they’re part of the same group as well. Think the clones from Star Wars, all voiced by same person yet slight differences creates such a different feel for the characters on top of the incredible writing. Can’t wait for more.

I know it's common for artists to doubt their own works, and I'm sure you've heard it yourself from countless others, but do know that you have something special. Not just with Sauria, but your style, your voice, your creations. You tell stories and stir emotions with nearly every piece of animation you make and you wear your inspirations on your sleeve in a way that is s incredibly refreshing. Whether doing dystopian post-apocalyptic societies, a horrifying space faring sci-fi future, or just showing dinosaurs in a high fantasy OR realistic way, you inspire many others. I'm glad you kept working on this series and you had fun doing it, it's clear and we love it for it.
I also love the setting as well, seeing a high-fantasy setting with dinosaur-people but also still having fairly realistic looking dinosaurs is just.... so unbelievably refreshing. I truly can not wait to see the next two episodes when they come out. Keep up the fantastic work.

Seeing you craft your favorite things into epics is what inspires me as an amateur artist everyday- it's so encouraging to see you take something as insane as "dinosaurs + imperialism + dark high fantasy + apocalyptic stuff +splendid colors" and then say FUCK YEAAAH and smelt them into a masterpiece :) i think it makes for some of the greatest stories and by god is Sauria is one of them! :D

Your work is, as usual, mind-blowingly amazing. Thanks so much for all the behind-the-scenes looks not just at "here are the stages of this drawing" but at the entire process, your thoughts & visions, and the evolution of your ideas. Considering how much the deformed Borg Queen in the latest season of "Star Trek: Picard" looks like she came straight out of the central tower in Autodale, I'm wondering how long it'll be before we see action figures that look like the Bluesong & Kindred of the Tusk.

As soon as the title card came up when my brother and I were watching, I couldn't help shouting "BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD" lol but seriously dude, I love your stuff. You have such a unique art style, your animation is very fluid, despite what you feel, your colors are bold and awesome, the backgrounds are simple but still imaginative, and the story was told in a great way. You did what hollywood has seemed to forgotten how to do: tell a compelling story without the need for exposition. We got the point. Anyone who's had pets understands that pain, even if they're more like brothers (hence furbabies), and even more so if they've been murdered by another's hand.
We understand where you're going, where the characters have come from, and how shining it's gonna be. Gonna be with you for the whole ride!

It is SO obnoxiously hard not to doubt yourself to the point in quitting. So far, I have not quit, kept strong, and part of that is because I can understand that other people in the world feel me. Thank you for sharing that, and I hope you can keep creating cause MAN that was awesome!

Yes, we love it, I love it. Your ideas are amazing, I've basically become semi obsessed with this world after I saw the first trailer. It was the first time I went to your patreon to see if I could get ANY more information on the world. Your words under the first trailer about challenging yourself to create the coolest thing you could imagine resonate so well with me, because this is probably exactly what I'd create if I gave myself the same challenge. It's fucking awesome. I've been sad it's only going to be 3 parts this whole time. Because this is a world I'd watch a 10 season show about, or read a 15 novel long book series or whatever. Its fantastic. I hope you don't completely drop it after the 3 episodes are over. I know all stories have their ending, and you're going to want to make other things. But idk, it's just so fucking cool. Maybe if you just ever come up with random lore tidbits about the world, post them to your patreon, maybe with like a drawing or sketch. I'd subscribe for that. I mean I'm already going to once I have more stable income, but still lol. Anyways, thank you for this, and I remain excited for the next episode.

    Significance of Chancellor/Taurox eyes?
    Antlers+Song... China parallels?
    Clothing of Kindred?
Where are the spectators' tails/how do they sit?
    Significance of noserings in Sauria?

As a lifelong lover of Dinosaurs and Fantasy, I found this first episode to be amazing. However, as a creative myself, I can understand many of the frustrations you express in the design process. And I can certainly appreciate the work you put into this. Here's hoping you get a whole lot of funding in the near future.
Also, as a lover Sword and Sorcery and Tabletop Role-Playing most of my adult life, I would love to see a TTRPG based off of this setting. Already, my head's swimming with ideas about how to write a D&D or Pathfinder campaign based off of this. I would certainly buy a hardcover for an RPG based on this setting.
All in all, you have done very good work on this, and I wish for you all the best. Cheers!

Thanks for taking us on the inside trip behind the Sauria. Interesting about the domesticated dinosaurs being bred to be blue, I thought it's just stylistic means to display a faction in united color palette. Also: David having swords and doing sword sounds himself, imagine the coolness of that !
