David, this was AWESOME. A few months ago I sat down with a cup of tea, and watched this random video I found, called, " The Last Tyrant " I still think about that morning sometimes, how cozy it felt. Especially the Making Of video, the style of those is just sooooooooo nice. Like how you show the inspiration from real birds, and your sculpting process. I've been waiting for your next film so I can relive that experience, and Winter Weathered DID NOT disappoint! I'm looking forward to watching the accompanying videos, but I just wanted to leave this comment to tell you how your stories impacted me, and many others, in creating an amazing cinematic experience. I don't know if I fully explained everything I wanted to say, but regardless, please keep making these works of art!
Thank you for making videos, dude. Last year, I switched from wanting to be a paleontologist to a filmmaker and recently finished college and am now working on my first screenplay. I was worried when you dissappear off the face of the earth, but now that you're back, im happy to see you are still doing amazing work and telling unimaginable stories. I hope you have a good day, stay safe and stay healthy.
@lonesome3958 thanx, I'm almost finished with it. My big goal is that I become the "Kevin Fiege" of the Legendary Pictures Monsterverse series. I love Godzilla, Kong, and I have so many cool ideas for films, books, TV shows, comics, and more o want to share with the world!
compared to the dystopian series, i think i like this one better because yes its dark, yes its gritty, but it doesn't feel hopeless and terrifying. i think this is your best short so far because it really does have a happy ending, i like the world of Sauria, its interesting, unique and layered and the characters are so fleshed out, i can't wait to see more mate.
I loved this one so much. God I cried when he was like "No no no please... I'm sorry!" after realizing what he did. Honestly I think your blue rex guy is my new favorite character of yours.
I love this setup you've done with the main character! To devote his entire life to the way of hunting and killing only what was needed, claiming to not hold any grudge against the creature who took his son, only to forget about his entire oath in the moment out of pure craving for revenge and to feel the weight of his near unforgivable sin, MY GOD I CAN'T. SOMEBODY GIVE THIS MAN AN ENTIRE TV SHOW JESUS PLEASE!
David James Armsby will be like "Im not that good at sound design and I don't enjoy doing it" and then make you listen to the most harrowing, heart gripping sound design ever concieved I mean, holy hell dude the breathing at 11:22 is goddamn scary for me. It makes me instincively imagine that painful, dry, bloody feeling in the throat the character is feeling, and that's gut-wrenching. I hate it and love it at the same time
This is what Brother bear's vibe would have been if it kept the mature atmosphere during the whole movie! (And if it had dinosaurs of course). Absolutely love it.
The fact that this doesnt have millions of views and you don't have millions of subscribers is a sign of UA-cam is in a full-on decay. This is peak creative content right here we are all witnessing it. This is what the platform was all about. Incredible world building so happy to see mammals and dinosaurs side by side. Just incredible fantastically beautiful world!
Went from smiling about the Trodon cameo to crying at around the 11:40 mark... this film was so beautiful and emotional, well done, and well worth the wait
This was the most beautiful of the Sauria films yet! That seasonal montage with the mating Nanuqsaurus, the mammoth funeral, and the Smilodon cub all got me. Two souls united in grief and the urge to keep persisting. This is probably my favorite one yet. This comes right after another D&D session of mine, with a similar bond and setting featured, so even the timing is perfect! I look forward to the behind the scenes video!
I loved this so much. I loved the story, how we see a Saurian with honor and valor and no real bloodlust, and when he does feel it he feels guilt. I love how clear it is how this man lives. He takes only what he needs to survive and tries not to feel vengeance, like an animal. The religion he follows obviously values life but does not blame others for taking what they need. I love how the message of animals killing for food is so driven home. Like how the sabertooth killed the man's son because he needed to and not because he wanted to torment the man or whatever. I love how the man sees himself as sinful for killing what was not needed and atoned by taking care of the son of the sabertooth. I love how CUTE ALL THE BABIES ARE!!!! Ugh, and I have so many questions!! Like why was there a statue of a different Saurian (a pterosaur?) by the entrance of the sabertooth cave??? I can't wait for the lore video on this!!!!
This is absolutel epiciness!!! Fantastic job as always!!! Loved the return of "Our Frozen Past" characters and the new models for the mammoths and Smilodon!! That one scene with the mammoth herd mourning the loss of the calf really got me sad as mammoths are one of my favourite extinct animals
Man, I usually put off dead sound animations because I never want to rush them and end up not enjoying them, so I wait for those right days where I can comfortably enjoy each video and man do those days hits different. Congrats on one million subs btw
Not to mention instead of a hunter being driven by revenge, he understand that the beast that slayed his son was just an animal, with no concept of malice or vengeance but simply doing what they had to survive
@@rumpeltyltskyn exactly smilodon is a formidable apex predator and should be treated as one imo idk if it’s me just because smilodon is my favorite animal but I feel like they are portrayed as pushovers in recent paleo based media far too often such as in Primal, La Brea, and Camp Cretaceous just to name a few all the while most other prehistoric creature got more less special treatment (tbf no creature had any kind of special treatment in primal even the main protagonist wasn’t immune from comedically dying 💀)
@@ultimate_animal_showdown Smilodon is one of my favorites too. And I was glad to see it in Camp Cretaceous but its inclusion was kinda, bland. Wish they did more with it.

Finally, the second episode is here and was totally worth it, just look how deep the story is, revenge, loss and mourning, sometime we are blinded by the rage, and once we are done we see that our "enemy" and us had a lot in common, actually, "Winter Weathered" reminds a lot of "Brother Bear", oh, just amazing, James, mis felicitaciones.
I love everything about this film. The story, the characters, the symbolism, the themes, the depth, the lesson, and the message it gave. I have been waiting for this ever since the trailer came along. I hope to see more of Sauria's films and videos. I love this film.
"Winter Weathered" actually helped me deal with my grief after the recent and sudden loss of my cat. I really liked the more mature and considerate theme of this one, and especially how grief and loss are depicted in a very relatable and realistic way. In my opinion this is a huge level-up from "Blood For Blood".
Winter Weathered focuses on a much more personal and simpler matter than its previous episode. Blood For Blood showed us what the politics of Sauria are like: a display of savagery from a selfish Empire and a prideful tribe going at each others' throats in a bid for power and influence.
I love dinosaurs. Always have, probably always will. Your films are an absolutely stunning presentation that gets the imagination running wild! I can't wait to see what's next and I'm only hopeful you're enjoying creating these as well!! Thank you for letting us continue to see your work and the incredible world of Sauria!
holy fucking shit this is your best work yet, im on the floor tearing up. the mythos, the loss, the grief and following numbness. the guilt of giving in to the desire for revenge he tried to squash down because he *knows* it's an unneeded sin. making amends as best he can by caring for the cub. the parallels with the mammoth and her baby. its just. so complete? you're going places man, at least i hope so
It's a simple story. It's such a simple storyline done SO WELL and executed SO BEAUTIFULLY. The saber tooth encounter from start to finish had me chilled. Those last moments with the mother was unbelievably poignant, and beautifully heartbreaking. You can hear the desperatation yet sincerity in his promise to make up to the mother, yet the true tragedy lies in the ambiguity and uncertainty of what the mother's last thoughts were before she laid still. How DeadSound keeps punching out masterpiece after masterpiece, I can't even fathom. And I want him to have triple the amount of recognition for all his hard work.
This was amazing to watch. It didn't feel like 16 minutes went by, it was so well animated, rendered, etc. Congratulations on releasing a project of this scale.
Aside from the amazing animation, the voice actor really did a superb job! I can feel his regret and anguish after killing the Mother. I love this! Looking forward for more!
it's a truly beautiful series, seeing poor HELIONYX go through his hard life and seeing how pain and suffering can harden someone's heart. I have already seen similar scenarios in many films and cartoons, I have an excellent "comparison" in the Power Ranger series Lost Galaxy there was Magna Defender who lost his son Zika killed by the "hands" of Scorpius an "Attila of the cosmos".
Stupendous animation and storyline. They describe a cycle of life that describes the essence of nature with all the viciousness and beauty that she demands. I applaud. Bravo!!!
Oh my gosh, this one made me cry. Fantastic storytelling and the score was perfection. Rise of the Decayed showed up in my feed and I watched that, which then made me find all of the Sauria videos and I've started watching them all. These are incredible and I am so glad that with the invention of the internet, there is no longer a gatekeeper who approves or denies art, based on how much the gatekeeper can profit from it. The makers of this series, all of them, are obviously talented and the quality of their art shines through every Sauria video.
Wow, I really love this story. I really hope we see more of this character because he is just awesome. I like how he’s in the middle like he’s not part of the brutes but he’s not part of the smart ones either.
Absolutely astounding. You had me clinging to every scene, eagerly awaiting what was going to happen next. I love how you depict the intelligence of these animals, the scarred mammoth especially. I love how you've crafted this polar Saurian and his philosophy, and you can really feel the weight of his emotions. The callbacks to Dinosauria were also beautiful nostalgia. And of course, Ivan's score accentuated every scene wonderfully.

I really like how the story feels like divine destiny. That smilodon mother wouldve died from bloodloss otherwise and the cub wouldve starved, but because the hunter found both, the smilodons suffering is over, the cub has a provider, and the hunter has a family again.
Goodness, I can't express just how much I love your art. It's so full of life, so fleshed out, so just... everything. I always get excited when I see a new video pop up. Even though your content had left my mind I immediately recognize it. I'd like to say that you're one of my biggest inspirations with storytelling. I may not always realize it but subconsciously it's there. Seeing your Sauria project and short films makes me want to create myself. To start writing. To finally take all the ideas bubbling in my head and let them topple out into the world of words. For that, I thank you so very much. And a little off topic- When the big fight happened I was going "Oh no.. oh no no no- I KNOW WHERE THIS IS GOING!! THE CAT HAS A BABY!!! IT HAS A BABY!! @@t-r-e-x452 Yes, sure
Omg you're right!!
Yoo GL on your first screenplay dude
atb for ur screenplay!
I wanna be a paleontologist..
@@goofymovies awsome, keep studying and keep loving life.
compared to the dystopian series, i think i like this one better because yes its dark, yes its gritty, but it doesn't feel hopeless and terrifying.
i think this is your best short so far because it really does have a happy ending, i like the world of Sauria, its interesting, unique and layered and the characters are so fleshed out, i can't wait to see more mate.
David James Armsby will be like "Im not that good at sound design and I don't enjoy doing it" and then make you listen to the most harrowing, heart gripping sound design ever concieved
I mean, holy hell dude the breathing at 11:22 is goddamn scary for me. It makes me instincively imagine that painful, dry, bloody feeling in the throat the character is feeling, and that's gut-wrenching. I hate it and love it at the same time
Fun fact; I recorded that sound myself while heavily sick with the flu. That sound is genuine pain.
@@DeadSound Now that's the dedication we all admire around here :))
3:05 Your voice really comes through here- great reminder that you do the voice acting. I love this!
Absolutely captivating and awe inspiring!!!! cant wait until the next installment!!
This is what Brother bear's vibe would have been if it kept the mature atmosphere during the whole movie! (And if it had dinosaurs of course). Absolutely love it.
Mammoth calf funeral - reference to "Primal"
The fact that this doesnt have millions of views and you don't have millions of subscribers is a sign of UA-cam is in a full-on decay. This is peak creative content right here we are all witnessing it. This is what the platform was all about.
Incredible world building so happy to see mammals and dinosaurs side by side. Just incredible fantastically beautiful world!
1 million views, and 1 million subs now.
Oh that ending. He buried the mother too. Oh I have tears in my eyes! ❤😭
Little spoiler: pteras was the first world civilization
This is absolutel epiciness!!! Fantastic job as always!!!
Loved the return of "Our Frozen Past" characters and the new models for the mammoths and Smilodon!! That one scene with the mammoth herd mourning the loss of the calf really got me sad as mammoths are one of my favourite extinct animals
Man, I usually put off dead sound animations because I never want to rush them and end up not enjoying them, so I wait for those right days where I can comfortably enjoy each video and man do those days hits different. Congrats on one million subs btw

The touching story of a dragonborn ranger and his beast companion.
Yoohoo one of the first recent paleo based shows where the saber toothed cat isn’t just casually killed off for meaningless plot convenience
Not to mention instead of a hunter being driven by revenge, he understand that the beast that slayed his son was just an animal, with no concept of malice or vengeance but simply doing what they had to survive
@@garg4531 But still clouded by his grief enough to make a mistake. It was very good.
@@ultimate_animal_showdowni mean in primal the smilodon killed off spear's dad which should be a feat as he was supposed to be near unstoppable and victory was needed to explain why spear is this powerful the night feeder is a monster so it is not something we should take into account overall i agree with you
This man needs to be funded and given 2 seasons on Netflix.
It’s the tv series I never got but always wanted…

Dinosaur: "Winter is comi... Oh sh..., it's already here!! RUN!!!"
This was amazing to watch. It didn't feel like 16 minutes went by, it was so well animated, rendered, etc. Congratulations on releasing a project of this scale.
And here i thought i had to wait for months to see this piece of absolute art.
I love the detail in the realistic way the Sabertooth kills
Aside from the amazing animation, the voice actor really did a superb job! I can feel his regret and anguish after killing the Mother. I love this! Looking forward for more!
Thank you. The voice actor was me. Really gave it my all this time around! :D
@@DeadSound Yo, that's really awesome! I can really feel the effort you put into all of your stuff. I'm rooting for you!
it's a truly beautiful series, seeing poor HELIONYX go through his hard life and seeing how pain and suffering can harden someone's heart.
I applaud. Bravo!!!
Netflix should be invest in your series. The animation, world building so perfect. Keep up the fire pal
This is amazing. How you give the dinosaurs a realistic color palette with what's been established to be their natural hues.
Sobbing, what a beautiful story of tragedy, grief, vengeance and hope. Absolutely breathtaking! I loved it! Probably your best film yet!
This is a masterpiece! Beautiful in every way!
Thank you very much. We love your art and empathy. Thank you for watching on a Friday evening in bohemian forest. Hugs !
GOSH what an amzing movie! I've said it before and I'll sy it again every dang time you upload but you genuinely are the greatest animated film creator on the planet, this stuff is just amazing, the voice acting, the character design, the soundtrack and sound effects, and of course the animation, just breathtaking
This was incredible! I love the use of prehistoric mammals in this. It’s always great when ancient megafauna can be included in something. Great work!
The animation for Helionyx's facial expressions coupled with your amazing delivery makes this film so much more of an emotional experience!
I would pay top dollar to see this made into a fully fledged series. the story is amazing. characters are awesome. Never stop doing what you do
This is the pinnacle of the series. Well done David. Very well done.

I think this is my favorite so far. Already loved Blood for Blood but this one hit different. Can't wait for some more lore about this guy and his kind.
That smilo’s death scene was SPINE CHILLING
Aw yes the classic dinosaurs mixed with the Ice Age trope, gotta love it
This... unironically brought me to tears. Brilliant. Well done.
This is absolutely outstanding; the storytelling’s both emotional and heartwarming and the animation is beyond great. I say it’s definitely one of your best works Dead Sound.
The art style is absolutely beautiful! I love how it changes from a beautiful world of orange to a cold stormy white. It's outstanding! And the story is so heart touching. You did absolutely amazing with this series and I'm so excited to see what happens next!
I loved this short film. It was quite an improvement over the last one, and the way you animated the snow seemed like an improvement over the way you animated it in „Our Frozen Past”.
Also, the saber-tooth cub was adorable.
If this was a full series I would tune in everyday a new episode is dropped. I just freaking love it.
You let me breathless. Thanks for this deep and awesome story.
I COMMAND NETFLIX, HULU, ANY STREAMING SERVICE ON THE PLANET TO GIVE THIS MAN A SHOW!!!! I NEED MORE OF THIS ALL THE TIME!!!! IIIII NEEEEED IIIIIIIIIT!!!!!
Felt those feelings in BG3, when I took the owlbear cub
Great Story and Wonderful Animation. I am loving this World of Sauria.
Absolutely fantastic, cannot wait to see the process tomorrow.
One of the few UA-camrs where my goldfish brain doesn’t have the urge to skip ahead 2 minutes to the action cause your content is actually entertaining
GREAT VIDEO!!! I'm definitely getting Primal (Genndy Tartakovsky's) vibes from your SAURIA series. It was also nice to see some familiar creatures (i.e. Parasaurolophus, Nanuqsaurus & the Arctic Troodontid) along with some new ones (Megaloceros, Mammuthus, Smilodon, etc.)
I really like how the story feels like divine destiny. That smilodon mother wouldve died from bloodloss otherwise and the cub wouldve starved, but because the hunter found both, the smilodons suffering is over, the cub has a provider, and the hunter has a family again.
Easily my favorite of yours so far, this is absolutely wonderful
Goodness, I can't express just how much I love your art. It's so full of life, so fleshed out, so just... everything. I always get excited when I see a new video pop up. Even though your content had left my mind I immediately recognize it.
I'd like to say that you're one of my biggest inspirations with storytelling. I may not always realize it but subconsciously it's there. Seeing your Sauria project and short films makes me want to create myself. To start writing. To finally take all the ideas bubbling in my head and let them topple out into the world of words. For that, I thank you so very much.
And a little off topic-
When the big fight happened I was going "Oh no.. oh no no no- I KNOW WHERE THIS IS GOING!! THE CAT HAS A BABY!!! IT HAS A BABY!! NOOOO" It made the moment, to me, hit so much more because I knew what was going to happen and was praying I would be proven wrong.
