I remember as a kid that I just loved Tarantula, he was like Spider-Man mixed with Zorro... but bad! Spectacular was always such a solid title with great creators, my excitement over this release was mild at first but now I really look forward to getting it.
Of course I’m getting this book! This includes the first Bill Mantlo run on “Spectacular” and lines right up with Stern. You’ve got Sal Buscema, Gerry Conway, Chris Claremont, and Jim Mooney doing their thing as well as the earliest Frank Miller art. The most important story in here is the Carrion saga from #25 to #31 which is a direct follow up to the original “Clone Saga” from Conway’s ASM. For those wondering, a potential volume 2 might include issues #43-79 and Annual #2-3, which goes beyond the Stern Omnibus and collects Bill Mantlo’s second title on this series. So while there would be double-dipping, you would get enough issues to make it worth it. Near Mint can pin this comment if they’d like. 😁
@@codysummers6842 Absolutely! That is the "Owl/Octopus War," one of Mantlo's finest "Spider-Man" stories and criminally underrated in the Spider-Man fandom.
@@paulmcgrew2932 It depends on how the Marvel Masterworks progress. If they don't go creator-centric like Cody mentioned, then it'll be a while before we get there. Looking at the pages you've shown, the colours really pop. The bigger size and Better printing really make Sal's artwork look amazing. It gives his art a dynamic energy the original issues don't have. Jim Shooter became Editor and Chief around issue 18 of this series and there was an almost immediate jump in quality. Disney gave Bill Mantlo a payment for using Rocket Racoon in Guardians Of The Galaxy which allowed him to move from a care facility to a modified house. Disney don't usually look after creators that well so bless them for doing it this time.
I worked for a printing company for many years, I can tell by how much the red pops they must using extra plates with a Pantone red than standard cmyk which gets pricy but really does bring the quality up a notch.
Yes, Omar, thanks for commenting on the IMAK printer and paper thickness, always something I appreciate you doing. IMAK printing on thin pages is a deal breaker for me, so I'm probably skipping this omnibus but going to get the content in either Masterworks or Epic collections eventually.
@@MastermindAXL At present, yes, but the entire 330+ Masterworks line is being reprinted beginning in the Spring of 2023, and with new scans of the art and more bonus material, so says Omar's contact at Marvel, David Gabriel . Want this one, there's some classic tales within and these were good times for Spidey. Seeing these pages makes me miss a lot of the elements within here, that are missing from the modern era Spidey comics we have now. The original comic back in the 70's also gave me a chance to buy a Spider-Man number 1. Yes this was a big deal back then and it was novel to actually have a second comic featuring the character.
Day one buy for me also!! Of course I can't say the name of it without singing the theme to that awesome cartoon.....spectacular spectacular spiderman......
I'm so jealous of you full time omnibus buyers. Really want to have this run on my bookshelf. Never read this or Web but holding out for either epics.😬
My copy was ordered months ago and can't come soon enough! This is one of my favourite periods of Spider-Man and I remember as a child buying each copy when it first came out. Perfection.
When I first started collecting comics, this Peter Parker series was already at issue #98, I believe featuring the Black Cat and Kingpin. I only followed the series for 5 or 6 issues then left it. This omnibus is the perfect way to have all the issues I never got to read. Hope there are at least 2 more volumes after this one.
Really happy to see Spectacular Spider-man get some omni love and I have it pre-ordered. I'm hoping this does well enough so that we get a volume 2, hopefully to include first 2 appearances of Cloak & Dagger, but also maybe to get Marvel Team-Up and Web of Spider-man in either omnis or Epics.
Everyone ridicules Hypno Hustler, understandably, but I can recall where 10 year old me bought that particular issue in Sept 78 and still love the issue. The very first time the two Miller issues were reprinted was a one-shot in 1984 when Marvel was flooding the direct market with reprint comics on glossy paper for much higher prices. That one only reprinted the Miller issues (27-28) without including the other parts of the story. And it was two bucks, when a regular comic was 75 cents. And re: Carrion. At the time, we all thought he was then-dead Norman Osborn. Who he was revealed to be didn’t hit me as hard as it should have, because I don’t believe I had read any of the clone issues at that point. My first issue of ASM was 151, which started the post-clone era of the hero.
Great review as always Omar. It’s a shame with so many coloured and great looking spine fonts coming out from the same era, they decided to stick with the horrible tiny font on this one 🤔
This looks great. I have almost of that run as original comic books but this looks so good that maybe have to get this. I really hope they would do omnibus of Marvel team up and Marvel two in one.
I agree; "Web" does need to be collected. To my knowledge, there are two "Essential Web of Spider-Man" trades that collect the first 32 issues, the first three Annuals, and "Kraven's Last Hunt," but that's it.

I have TASM vols 1, 2, 3, and 5 (waiting for a reprint of 4) is it worth it to still get the Stern omni since the issues in it will inevitably be printed in a Spectacular Spider-Man vol 2 and future volumes of Amazing?
Really depends on the mapping. To give you an idea of what I mean, most people agree that ASM vol 6 will take us right to the Roger Stern Omni (so ending on 223). Also, right after the Stern Omnibus comes the Alien Costume Saga collected in two books (has other issues, but relevant ones for this discussion are ASM 252-263 and Spectacular Spider-Man 90-100). Stern to the end of the Alien Costume Saga is ASM 224-263 (and they'd need some of the side issues to complete the story) which seems like enough material for an Omni to me. So, if that is the mapping of ASM vol 7, then you could get the Roger Stern Omnibus and the Complete Alien Costume Saga Books 1-2 instead (with the bonus of getting the whole alien costume story rather than just the essentiel stuff). As for Spectacular, yeah 43-61 would no doubt be reprinted, but if it goes up to 89, you'd at least have half a book of new content and comfortably go into the Alien costume saga.
@@kieranprior3873 Right, ultimately it comes down to whatever Marvel will put out but I think the Stern omni will be the unofficial volume 7. I looked at what has been published and what's left and the mapping looks fairly simple. The first five volumes have the first 180 issues and volume 6 will be the bridge to the Stern Omni and that goes to 252 (only following TASM I don't know the mapping for the other titles or what issues should be included) and the Michelinie Omni covers 296-329, so a "vol 7" that spans 253-295 fills in the gaps between Stern and Michelinie. The Larson Omni picks up right after Michelinie for issues 330-350, and the two volumes of the Clone Saga have TASM 394-406, so a "vol 8" of issues 351-393 fills in that gap and then a final Omni of issues 394-441 will finish off the first volume of Amazing Spider-Man. And if they ever make an Omni of the first 29 issues of the second volume of TASM then the first 545 issues of Amazing Spider-Man will be collected in only 17 omnibuses.
@@anthonycarnivale2578 I don't know every issue that would need to be included, but I can help out a bit. 253-295: As mentioned before, some issues from the Alien Costume Saga that are not ASM would need to be included, at the very least Web of #1 since I think that one wraps up that saga. Peter and MJ's marriage happens in this period so you would include the ASM annual, the Spectacular annual of their honeymoon, and possibly the Parrellel Lives graphic novel. Also during this time is Spider-Man Versus Wolverine, and the Kraven's Last Hunt storyline which includes: The Spectacular Spider-Man (1976) #131-132, Web of Spider-Man (1985) #31-32. There was also the graphic novel follow up "Soul of the Hunter" which could possibly be included here but was written a few years after 295 so likely included later. 351-393: Maximum Carnage happens during this period which includes The Spectacular Spider-Man (1976) #201-203, Spider-Man (1990) #35-37, Spider-Man Unlimited (1993) #1-2, Web of Spider-Man (1985) #101-103. That is 53 issues already not accounting for other crossovers or annuals. The general consensus is that if Maximum Carnage is included, it will be two omnis, if it is skipped due to being in other omnis, it will be one. 394-441: My understanding that all the Spidey titles would constantly crossing over (ie part 1 in ASM, part 2 in Spec) so it would likely be two omnis. 1-29: would be 1-2 omnis since the first 19 issues of Peter Parker Spider-Man are needed and Revenge of the Green Goblin happens too (4 non ASM issues)
Omar, do you think that Marvel will release a volume two? Because Marvel just released Spiderman Omnibus by Roger Stern, with a lot of story from this era
Apparently some weak excuse, that if printed at Donnelly (or elsewhere) it would be more expensive. Firstly: nonsense, as some other omnis are printed at Donnelly for much the same price. But even if it were true, most collectors would pay another 5-10 bucks to have it printed properly and not by a bunch of Turkish kebab merchants along with chilli sauce flavoured pages.
We need more spectacular spiderman omnibus!! Vol 2-5 and web of spiderman omnibus vol 1-4!! It’s possible!!! Very much looking forward to those one day!!!👍👍👍👍😎😎☺️☺️
Hey Omar.. Great Vid. Unrelated question: will the first 4 volumes of the Spawn origins deluxe edition be reprinted? I don't know if i should buy vol 5 because i don't know if i will get first 4.
Ive been looking forward to this overview for months. I already ordered this omnibus a few days ago and its the only omnibus that i thought was worth purchasing this year. I have the Roger Stern omnibus and all the other spidey omnibus (vol 1 through vol 5) and this is gonna be a perfect fit in terms of continuity. Is the Ralph Macchio who wrote the intro the same Ralph Macchio from the Karate Kid/Cobra Kai? I love the 1970's art (my fav). Brilliant overview as always.
Okay Peter Parker Spider-Man Volume 1 from like I think it was 1999 to 2003 was that a standalone miniseries or a separate title going on at the time when Spider-Man had multiple titles going? Thanks
So ti make sure I understand right, this volume has the amazing spider-man and the marvel team up in it? And if not, will it be better to start by one of them first?
Amazing 5 went up to 180, Stern has Amazing 206 but then jumps to 224-252. So while you can read this after 5, because this started like Omar said during the middle of the time Amazing 5 covers you’d still need one maybe two more Amazing volumes to *completely* line up with Stern Omnibus.
@Near mint condition, ( or anyone else who can give me an answer). I was looking at a listing on eBay of the batman by Snyder omnibus and was looking to buy it. But in the description it says the publication year is 2019. Would that mean it would be the first printing with the bad binding? I want to get it but I'd rather a newer printing were that problem is fixed. Thanks in advance to anybody who takes their time to respond.
Normally I would sell off my masterworks which increased in value from what I paid for them and more often then not recover my original investment plus get the omni for free or almost free. Not anymore. The omni paper isn't that good which is the kindest thing I can say then these odd small printed spines. Real Debbie downer man.

@@idle1300 "Spectacular" was developed to focus more on Peter Parker's personal life during the 70s era of "Spider-Man." That said, this series still answered to "Amazing Spider-Man," so not too many big things happen in this Omnibus. It's when you get to ghe later years where Mantlo returns to the title that "Spectacular" becomes its own distinct voice, such as the "Owl/Octopus War," the trial of the Punisher, the first appearance of Cloak and Dagger, Peter's relationship with Black Cat, and more.
Hey Omar, have they announced a volume 2 for Spectacular Spider-Man?
Omar, do you think that Marvel will release a volume two? Because Marvel just released Spiderman Omnibus by Roger Stern, with a lot of story from this era
IMAK strikes again!
I surrendered to the fact that all Spidey omnis (my favourite superhero)will be forever printed by IMAK (((((((
@TheWokenado 😂😂😂😂you can check all your non-IMAK omnis at the entrance to be distributed to the rest of us
Apparently some weak excuse, that if printed at Donnelly (or elsewhere) it would be more expensive. Firstly: nonsense, as some other omnis are printed at Donnelly for much the same price. But even if it were true, most collectors would pay another 5-10 bucks to have it printed properly and not by a bunch of Turkish kebab merchants along with chilli sauce flavoured pages.
@@FrankCastlesConscience everything after the word “properly” was entirely unnecessary. Don’t be that guy

There's a Spectacular Spider-Man Omni coming out? I fucking love that series.
My arrives today 😍👌🙂 greetings from Germany 🙂
We need more spectacular spiderman omnibus!! Vol 2-5 and web of spiderman omnibus vol 1-4!! It’s possible!!! Very much looking forward to those one day!!!👍👍👍👍😎😎☺️☺️
Hey Omar.. Great Vid.
Unrelated question: will the first 4 volumes of the Spawn origins deluxe edition be reprinted?
I don't know if i should buy vol 5 because i don't know if i will get first 4.
...all 4 are now Reprinted!!!!!!!
👍I'm getting it..☝ But I really also want a "WEB OF SPIDER-MAN Omnibus"
So far, I have the kindle edition. I have not read it though.
Omar! Keepin' it Uncanny!
Okay Peter Parker Spider-Man Volume 1 from like I think it was 1999 to 2003 was that a standalone miniseries or a separate title going on at the time when Spider-Man had multiple titles going? Thanks
Top video, thank you.
So ti make sure I understand right, this volume has the amazing spider-man and the marvel team up in it? And if not, will it be better to start by one of them first?
Had no idea things like this existed. I got my first PPSSM when I was around 14. It took me 20 years to get all 133 issues 😂
Will we ever see Spectacular Spider-man in EPIC collection format?
Am i the only one who had the theme song for the cartoon Spectacular Spider-man when I saw the thumbnail?
Omar, I sent JM DeMatteis your video of favorite Spider-Man stories, hoping he would like it, and it still has the "Batman" in the title in the link.
It shouldn’t. That’s odd. It was only there for 10 minutes. I’ll triple check
Great book, but the Masterworks are enough for me, no double dipping this time.
Amazing Spider-man by Stern?
So it's Amazing Omnis 1-5, this Omni, then the Roger Stern one?
Yes, if you have the Omnis.
@@NearMintCondition Thanks, you're the 🐐
@@g-roy23 Ok, thanks a lot! There's going to be quite the double dipping if more Omnis are released after 5 though
Omar! A weird question… but if you were on a budget, would you recommend this book or Christopher Priest Black Panther??
Ohhh man. I would go for Priest run. Just me.
@@NearMintCondition Gracias, hermano, I trust you 🙏🏽🙏🏽
Hitman looking very similar to the Shocker.
Not Mary Kane Omar, Marcy Kane.
Not sure I got the reading order right. Should I read this omnibus between ASM omnibuses 2 and 3? :) thanks!
After 5 is a good place.
@@NearMintCondition thank you! :)
I must have this!
Why the hell has this one that ugly spine again but the invaders has a cool one with the logo? I can't understand it
Let's hope they change style with the first reprint (2024 probably). Current one is too ugly for my shelves. 😜
Comic Gold!
I can’t help but notice the Star Wars new republic omnibus in the background of several videos now. Eager for that one!
❤️❤️❤️
Hello omar, is there a re stock schedule for the Fantastic Four by hickman Omnibus !!?
I don’t have a lock down date yet. But I’ll be asking.
@@NearMintCondition so there will be a re stock ? just not a date yet ?
Ff Hickman 1 yes.
Read these issues digitally and they are not worth re reading nor paying $140 for.
Power to others.
Yo. Nice
Normally I would sell off my masterworks which increased in value from what I paid for them and more often then not recover my original investment plus get the omni for free or almost free. Not anymore. The omni paper isn't that good which is the kindest thing I can say then these odd small printed spines. Real Debbie downer man.
I can't believe I'm saying this, but after the long, long wait I'm actually more excited for New Warriors Vol 2. I'll be giddy like a school girl when Omar posts that overview. Any day now...
What sets Spectacular apart from Amazing?
In terms of what to expect.
This Omnibus is the early days of the series, which provide great, fun Spider-Man stories. But it's a good companion to "Amazing Spider-Man Omnibus Vol. 5."
Spectacular is so much better than Amazing, this proves it.
Eh…it’s good…but it’s no Ghost Rider Vol 2 or FF by Byrne Vol 2
Literally has nothing to do with those random ass books
@@tristanhogue4690 your comment is “meh” at best.
And your comment is a bit condescending🤷
Good vid like always but total pass for me not a Spider-Man run im into
Ugly spine again. Not gonna buy this
Bruh
What a huge bummer about the thin paper. :C
I think they should be giving you better copies for the promotion that you are doing for them. That looks like the ones I keep sending back to Forbidden Planet everytime.
