Totally love this movie!! I have watched it so many times and still never get bored. Wonderful story and acting and ofcourse, the food display is a delight to watch. I lived in China for 2 years and thoroughly enjoyed Chinese cuisine in the restaurants. Now I know how that was made :D When ever I suffer from lack of appetite, I watch this scene and get ravenously hungry :) One of my favorite foreign films
this reminds me of how my grandma works in the kitchen, though she isn't a professional, she is a very talented cook~i often think im very blessed to have her as a grandma, partly for this reason.
I haven't seen this movie but I so want to now. This scene is very tasteful, literally and because it's not as graphic as it could be. The guy knows what he's doin', that's for sure.
a truly wonderful story and totally funny sadly no matter what I do I can never upload this on your sight. Therefor I had to go to Solar but well worth it I dabble in Chinese cooking but watching a true master makes me appreciate chefs like this man and cannot imagine what the food is like in China compared with this over here...night & day I suspect
This scene at the beginning is the reason why I bought the dvd... I just watch it over and over... it's kind of therapeutic. Then again, my dad is a restaurant chef and I grew up watching Martin Yan on PBS, so I have a bit of a cognitive bias, yeah?
This scene is kind of brutal if you are an animal lover, but also very beautiful at the same time. There's something almost spiritual about cooking....
i've got a philosophical problem with uploading the entire movie. i think there is a strong argument that there is too much copyrighted material on youtube. i don't think the creators of the movie would be impressed. so i'm sorry but i will decline the request.
can anyone send me a link in a reply for something like the dumplings he's making at the end of the clip? They look so good and frozen crap just isn't the same.
Wow! O.O Color me impressed.I'm one of those people who can burn boiling water!(And I have the audacity to call myself a woman)But I do make a mean bowl of cereal, not just one kind ,but many.Like Applejacks,Capatain Krunch,Cinnamon Toast Crunch,Wheaties,Fruit Loops, Trix, and Cookie Crisp too!
@DigitalOberon Somewhat, though the real brutality comes from the industrialization of meat and the conditions in which animals are raised. I don't have qualms with eating meat, because it is somewhat of a fact of life, though I do have objections to how the meat industry raises these animals in inhumane, awful conditions, pumping them full of antibiotics and hormones, and butchering even the sickly and diseased animals for our consumption.
I haven't watched this movie in ages. it makes me hungry, makes me laugh, cry, and just a great hour and a half/two hours!
I love this movie!!!!! It is one of the most moving and beautiful movies I have ever seen - Ang Lee is a genius!
The opening of this movie is just incredible! I can watch it over and over again before letting the movie go on.
Jesus. I thought UA-cam banned pornography.
Thank you for this scene. For me it's the music, not the cooking, which makes it great.

Reminds me of myself. Get home late from work and whip up a quick something.
Reminds me of myself too...work or no work, I still always have to devote 3-4 hours when I cook which I never have the patience for lol.
Michael Golin
This is a must see movie. It is a work of art.

wow. mad kitchen skills!
This part of the movie really pays respect for those who work in the kitchen......
Sometimes when I'm cooking, I'll hum this song or play it in my head lol

Wish it was higher quality!
Wow now that is how a chef should be like in the kitchen x3
Am i the only one who finds this scene obsessively satisfying ?
this is the real chinese food.
This movies makes one very hungry. :)
RESPECT!!!
This guy doesn't need a stupid sous vide machine to kick ass in the kitchen.
0:09 The tail moves.
This scene made me so hungry...
I wonder what that is that's frying at 2:50. Anyway, love this montage!

Aliyah Higurashi Like Shu qi? *sigh*
Exactly :)
Skillz.
hahaha even though the food looks amazing and he's done it so skilfully, i find the whole scene extremely (darkly) humourous.
i think he is a cook or maybe a chef for the rich house
i trust you
can anyone send me a link in a reply for something like the dumplings he's making at the end of the clip? They look so good and frozen crap just isn't the same.
please, but dont cook frogs for us. I saw some frogs were jumping here also. T_T
Skillz
anybody know what song this is or who composes it?
4.6 fish, chicken, frogs don't care to eat or drink with anybody.
I don't think they're noodles, I think they're the frog legs...I've seen my grandmother cook the same stuff
I am struggling with curiosity, is the fish at 0:30 fried or boiled?

Imagine being paid minimum wage to do this every day.

The added sound effects ruin the scene.
wasnt a rooster..it was a hen...roosters are terrible to eat
13 fish, including me, did not like the movie opening scene !
Number seven combo with a Pepsi and crab Rangoon, please.
