Great ride, brings back memories, I’m ex Garden City, retired 2013, now up in Hervey Bay catching the ray’s and living the life. Keep on keeping on and keeping the customers happy. Cheers ,
@@junng6848 Garden City is one of the BCC bus depots, so he is likely meaning that he used to work at that depot (since bus drivers work at a depot and learn all the routes for said depot). The Garden City depot would typically serve most South-East Brisbane bus routes (think all the buses that terminate at Garden City 120, 160, 170 etc.).
@@Xixid1 i quit after 2 weeks of doing route/public bus service, stay the hell away from route driving!! @@Pete-o5r a few reasons; in short; strict time schedules, bad passengers, long hours, hard to navigate, basically everything working against you 😂 The long version: time pressure - youll almost always run late and when you run late people get angry! This also means you rarely get any layover time as you are late, youll always be in a rush. dealing with the public - most of the public are great but you get a few characters which can really ruin your day and you dont want to drive in a bad state of mind navigating - personally i found it very difficult to know where to go just by going off the sheet of lefts and rights that they give you and i was extremely worried about missing a turn. you really have to do your homework and after being out for almost 12 hours (next point) you dont really want to! split shifts - split shifts accommodate peak hours. ive heard of people waiting 6 - 10 YEARS until they got a straight shift. the shifts could be from 6:30am - 10am and then 1pm - 6pm (roughly) which means verryyyy long dragged out days. very hard to have work/life balance. mechanical issues - there was almost always something wrong with every bus which cause serious safety concerns. Also theres a weird hierarchy thing going on, the longer you work there the better routes, buses and shifts you get but theres also a favouritism thing and other silly personal reasons like i didnt like talking on the radio or having to keep telling people to get out of the door etc i will say if you want to do buss driving, get your license upgrade free with route services quit and go to private charters. its a million times better! now is the best time while there are driver shortages!
@DrinkWater47 thanks mate for the detail. All of that makes sense and you seem like a sensible guy so I am going to take all of that on board. I was looking at starting but that has opened my eyes a bit! So maybe complete the training to MR and upgrade with them to HR before getting out on the routes for real (if I understood you rightly?)
great video mate ! glad i found you as iam a massive bus enthusiast. iam 16 and a half now, by the time i get my bus license i hope that these b7rle's are still around (:
There will most likely still be the B7's, though the council has switched to B8's over the last few years. B8's rattle less, have more power and incredible steering.

Great interaction with passengers, if only other bus drivers were like that. Loved the vid.
