Wizard villages are places in which wizards and witches live in secret. They may or may not be inside a Muggle village, but most likely are. They are described as "communities within a community". After the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy was enacted in 1689, wizards and witches had to find places to live without muggles bothering them, so they made villages where they could live together in peace. In this video I’m going to take you through the history of 2 of my favourite villages.. Hogsmeade and Godric’s Hollow. Im going to start with Hogsmeade, then begin Godric’s Hollow after wards.

I've always wondered about students who live in Hogsmeade. Are they required to board at the school like the other students or are they allowed to go home for the night? Do they have the freedom to go to Hogsmeade whenever they choose (within reason), even when they're first/second years or on weekends the other students can't?
Or are they held to the same rules and standards as every other student?
That’s actually a good point.
I’m assuming they are held to the same standards as other students. It would be a pain to regulate who was able to leave & who had to stay, especially at night/after school. With them all being held to the same standard, professors wouldn’t have to spend that extra time making sure students were in line to go home, then having a professor walk them down to the gates (or Felch). The same would go for 1st & 2nd years.

Senior here but not quite as old as Dumbledore. Anyway love Harry Potter. Can you do what some of the many tents, motorhomes,camping gear that was camped out for the 422 World Quidditch Championship. Plus how food was prepared by some of the families. I had to sell all of my Potter books, DVDS, posters when I had to move. And I do miss my Harry Potter. My first time seeing your channel. Very informative and your art work is fantastic.

@@FormerGovernmentHuman Godric's Hollow doesn't have Protective Enchantments around it. As Dean said, Hogmeade is the only All-Wizarding Village. So that means there are some Muggles in Godric's Hollow, therefore, Godric's Hollow doesn't have protective spells around it.

Wait, so hogwarts is over 1000 years old. Godric griffindor founded hogwarts and was born in godrics hollow. This means that the town isnt formed in the 1600s after the statute of secrecy, which explains why there are muggles there. Also, i guess they changed the name of the village when godric was born, or was he named after the village?
from the books its mentioned that the village was named after him. so the name was probably changed maybe only for the wizard part of it. the muggles would probably be like. mm why name our village after him, who is he :)
@@marcelsgroot Perhaps the original muggle population were relatives of muggleborns. I would be willing to bet that many of the current muggle residents might be descendants of muggle relatives of muggleborns from Godric's days.

I actually have a chocolate card of Hengist of Woodcroft, the back reads: FOUNDER of HOGSMEADE. Driven away from his home by Muggle persecutors, Hengist is supposed to have settled in Scotland where he founded the village of Hogsmeade. The three broomsticks inn is alleged to be Hengist’s old home.

Why wasn't Harry Turned into an obscus because they Dursleys tried to suppress his magic powers
they tried but failed and i believe it would be more of ignoring then suppress
Harry didn’t develop an obscurus because he didn’t know that the things he was doing was caused by magic.
He was living with the Dursley’s who yes would punish him for things happening like growing his hair back overnight when petunia cut it off or what happened to Dudley at the zoo.
The thing that set him and credence apart was credence had knowledge of magic and was raised by mrs barebones to fear it and that it was evil.
Harry didn’t know magic existed or that he was causing these things so he never tried to resist his power or suppress it in anyways resulting in him being able to control his power later on in life with training verses growing an obscurus.
I think that Godrick's hollow is the only town where wizards and witches can practice magic in front of every muggle and muggles would be like "could you also make my life a bit easier." That is what I got from reading the books... G H being the only town where the law of secrecy does not aply... Reason being tjat everyone got so used to magic that they won't question it. Muggles don't bother building on top of the Potter house due to respect and all the hiding charms are put because of outsiders... G H residents know what happened... Everyone of them know... That's the reason for that town to flourish... And I bet that they know about good old Voldie and have either a friend, family member or other contact in ministry of magic... I think that G H is the utopia some wizards and witches dream of but can't occupy the town because of the sensitive balance there...
History of Borgin and Burkes.
One thing i never understood about Rowling's wizarding community is how small it is. A village or two comprised of a small handful of people and the rest scattered around.
For a group that is as old as rest of humanity you'd think that the British magical community alone would be at least a million or two. Just seems a bit more logical i guess :)
I know, just seems that even they should be slightly higher that's all. There are some ultra rare minorities in the world that still range in the millions and a community that small in all of Britain just seems a bit strange.
But maybe that's just me ;)

How do paintings work in harry potter? They seem to be self aware, and they act like the real person, but how does the painting know what the person was like? Is it somehow connected to them, like a not evil horcrux, with a link to or piece of someone's soul? Why don't grieving people use paintings to talk to lost loved ones, or aurors use them to interview murder victims? I've always thought the paintings are a huge piece that nobody ever really talks about, and nobody on youtube seems to have an explanation

Godric's hollow isn't a full wizarding village that is told in the last canon book aka the deathly Hallows
I always thought people called it hogsmeet, not hogsmead.
Interesting video. Since Godric's Hollow is toward the west it is likely near Wales.
I understand there are a least two other villages with large wizarding populations. Ottery St. Catchpole is when the Weasley home is. It is toward the south end of the island near Devon. The Diggorys live there. The Lovegood home is nearby.
Tinworth is near Cornwall and is the location of Shell Cottage. These are mentioned in the books.
While Malfoy Manor is in Wiltshire it is away from Muggle Wiltshire. Wizards, I assume, live everywhere and hide what they are from Muggles.

Am I the only one that noticed that the founders are from the different parts of the U.K.? Gryffindor is England, Huffelpuff is Whales, Raveclaw is Scotland and Slytherin is Ireland, I know only Northern Ireland is part of the U.K.. And this is why I think JK hates Slytherin so much, the whole Irish English fighting for the last.... I don't know how long. But there is a bit of a hatred between the two countries.

I'd assume pretty much every wizard would have a religion (if they'd exist) since they see non cientific shit going on all around them, so the existance of an all powerful creature, powerful enough to create everything would most likely be even logical

Question then why didn't Ron Weasley go to this 2nd Ollivander's stop on one weekend during his second year at Hogwarts. Lots and lots of "secret passages" between the castle and Hogsmeade. Really, how could any passage between the two wizarding havens ever NOT be secret and still be worth a pile of pixie poop? If there was a passage everybody knew about in the open nobody would ever use it it would be so lame and passé!

Here is idea for video.. How come in HP Lore, Harry's Potters invisibility cloak is deathly hallow, but barthy crouch jr used one as well, when he was under his fathers magic.. just asking.. so there are at least two of them.. but just one is deathly hallow?
There are invisibility cloaks but there is very few that are infallible

There are at least two other locations with a large wizarding population.
Ottery St. Catchpole in Devon (South tip of the island.) is the Home of the Weasleys, Lovegoods and the Diggoreys.
The least well known town with lots of wizards is Tinworth near Cornwall. Shell Cottage, the peaceful home of Bill and Fluer is here.
Godric's Hollow is probably near the Welsh border (Assuming it's far enough north.)
According to Prisoner of Azkaban Dufftown (A real Scotch Village.) is near Hogwarts. North, south East, West, we don't know how far Dufftown is from Hogwarts.
Why the Potters' house was invisible? In the book we read that Hagrid had gone at the Godric's Hollow to take Harry and Hagrid rushed to leave because the police of muggle would cοme in any time.
