Thanks for having me!
Loved the side skit, but why is propagating certain Pothos patterns bad? Please help the newbs out here not commit the cardinal sins of propagating lol
@@danielmcnamara4708 I had no clue either...my only guess it's because everyone owns one of them already. :D
Ditto. What's a do not propregate pattern? 🤷🏽
🤣😂
Pro tip: if you pretend yellow leaves aren't an issue for long enough, then it won't be an issue anymore.
This is true.
😂😂😂😂😂
So true!! Mine don’t bother me at all.
You’re videos are my favourite in the planty community. Educational while also being funny, they always make my day. ( plants are my special interest so I get very excited about new videos)
So nice of you
I agree! He's a cool dude! I enjoy watching his watching his video's Love ya bro, keep up the fun videos❤
Plus, they’re short n sweet 😊
I’m an underwaterer, and I’ve noticed that if I water a plant with yellow leaves and pull the yellowing leaves off at the same time, I get more yellowing. I recently read that the super dry plant can’t drink all it needs right away, so it’s still relying on those yellowing leaves to recover. Pull them off, and the plant just has to fire more.
That’s fascinating! Isn’t nature wonderful?
The way you worded this makes so much sense!
This same thing is happening to me currently. Apparently I underwatered my Adansonii. Pulled off yellow leaves. Now I have more yellow leaves. Ugh.
I've now learned to Not pluck them off. 😊
Love the skit w/Lethius. Thanks for sharing!
you are a saint. i have googled 'why does my plant consistently have exactly one yellow leaf at the base of the plant' so many times and the internet is only ever prepared to talk about the entire plant is dying because I am over watering or something similarly dramatic. I eventually just gave up and watched my plants behavior and noticed that while the bottom ones would yellow slowly it would still grow new leaves from the top and otherwise looked healthy and i finally just figured "it's fine".
I didn’t believe the dying leaf was important until I had snake plant cutting which I had propagated. The new growth was thriving so I figured I should cut off the original dying prop leaf and then the new growth started dying.. quickly.
Love the little cameos you add to your videos. Brilliant!
Glad you like them!
Ikr
omg! this video came at the PERFECT time! I was thinking about cutting off the yellowish leaves on my monstera adansonii literally like 5 minutes ago, and then I see THAT thumbnail and title. wow haha convinced to leave them on now :)
Thanks for this video.
Right. Yellow leaves can even still photosynthesize. I have a yellow leaf on my Thaumatophyllum for at least 3 months now and it regularly “dances” (what does one call it when the leaves follows the light?🤔) in dappled sunlight.
The leaf will drop on its own, or can be easily removed when slightly t pulled on once the process of abscission has taken place.
Plants really don’t need us to help them “save” energy. They’ve been surviving in forests perfectly fine without us
absolutely!
Absolutely
Totally agree.
If yellow leaves don’t bother you, don’t bother them 💛
If you’re this person, you’re probably pretty relaxed. People like me love people like you. Your mystery is intriguing 🙃
If they only bothered you because you were weren’t aware it is natural for leaves to yellow, and that it isn’t necessarily something to be alarmed about, keep them. Become part of that first group and enjoy your chill approach to managing your plants.
For those like me, who are bothered when we see yellow leaves in our collections, fertilize so your plant doesn’t mind you stealing that nutrient opportunity.
It’s like find a penny, give a penny. That’s what I tell myself anyway 😜
Love the humor! Requesting weekly videos...please. ❤
haha I appreciate you love the content, but that will not be happening.

Thanks! I would of kept thinking my plants were getting sick when leaves started yellowing.🤯
Congrats, your past 70k, so well deserved. Omgosh, what a funny cop skit. Luv it!! 😂
Thank you!! 😁
I’m definitely a member of the “Panic Club” at the sight of yellowing leaves. Currently, my formerly beautiful and full Philodendron Peru is turning yellow and seems to be dying. How could I not panic? 😩 I recently repotted her into pon bc her leaves were turning yellow but she seems worse off. I’m about to look at her roots and hope to find a way to save her. But I’m definitely panicking! 😂
Thanks for another informative and fun clip.
I got frustrated with my Peru as well. Hope you can sort out what's going on with it!
😆oh no, I don't have advice, but I know that panic. I'll take some of your panic over here, it will be all ok 👍 👌
@@giyavictoria3747 thank you. You’re very kind. I’m feeling better already. 🤗
Good luck! If you want to save it, you should probably take cuttings and start fresh. In my experience, a plant turning fully yellow is the result of root rot, which is usually caused by watering too frequently for the soil to dry out sufficiently. Root rot is definitely a plant killer.
Just know that it doesn't make you a bad plant parent, we all struggle with certain types of plants. My step mom is the queen of plants, but she really struggles with a few varieties. And while the 30+ plants in my house right now are thriving, I have probably killed at least 8 in the last year.
@@caitolent You are so kind! Thank you for your encouraging words. I’m not sure where I went wrong; I bought her in January. She was full, in a clay pot. I used a moisture meter every time before watering. Early March she started to turn yellow and started losing leaves. I decided to switch her to pon. It didn’t help. Sigh!
So this afternoon I took her out of the pot. The roots seemed ok, not mushy. But the vines had lost their bottom leaves, with the exception of one. That one I put in pon, the other four or five I cut back and put in water. Hopefully, they will grow for me. Hoping for the best but I’m prepared for defeat, if that’s what comes next.
I wish I would have known this before I cut leaves off all my plants today 🥴 thank you for this info
No worries. Your plant will be fine.
Yep, me too!😢
@@KillThisPlant I hope so I have a question about my bird of paradise. I put them outside and the leaves are curling inwards now. What am I doing or not doing?
@@virgorising8123 immediately? Are after a few weeks? Have you changed your watering routine to water more frequently with more sun outdoors and other factors?
I have a philodendron burle marx that started to yellow almost as soon as I got it. No pests, I played around with light and *thought* I gave it enough water. It yellowed so quickly, by the time I diagnosed the issue it had lost most of its leaves. Turns out water wasn't getting to the roots properly or evenly and the roots had dry rotted. I got it in a vase of water and let it be. It went down to one, very yellow leaf, that I left alone. I think that last leaf really helped it bounce back along with moving it to water. It has since started growing and has three new leaves and the yellow one, which I'll keep until it falls off naturally. I guess my tip is, if a plant is suffering but doesn't have pests, leave the leaves alone unless they're ready to come off, they could help the plant survive and return to health
I love your videos. Soon I have to repot my huuuge Monstera with a new cocos pole, so I'm going to watch that older vid of yours where you give so much information that I already forgot haha. Greetings from Amsterdam (Netherlands) 🖐🏼🖐🏼
Good luck!

Love the Roots Ready appearance!!!!
Tnx for this. I was kinda letting my plants do their own thing like they would in the wild. But now I started removing rotting leaves from the top of the pot. I've seen it can increase rot and other issues with the soil. Tho, I never had such problems with the soil. Lucky.
Yes, a very good idea to remove those leaves from the soil in an indoor setting.
I grow dwarf tamarillo trees. They get yellow leaves at an alarming rate but considering that they keep blooming and fruiting I have learned to JUST STOP PULLING THEM OFF but it is so hard not to....so THANKS LEE THIS HELPS. ❤
That drawing/painting on the wall is just absolutely gorgeous. Everything about it is "correct". By the way, I do not think Pothos minds standing in water. You can grow them in glass vases, too, with no nutrients at all.
But we catch your drift. What is new to me, is what you say about the plant taking stuff back from the yellowing leaf. Will have to research that a bit more, as I have never heard of that.
And as always, good vid. Keep up the good work and enjoy your hobbies. Cheers.

@@KillThisPlant Oh. Whoops. Hehehe. Thanks for pointing that out.
Good advise! I've heard both and went with the "leave the leaves" method, but I've always wondered in the back of my mind. Also, lmfao that skit was gold.
Lee and Lethius! Just need Nora now! 😊😊❤️❤️🌸🌼🌿
Solid advice; thank you!
Gonna try your approach with my Scindapsus Argyraeus since I've been in the habit of snapping off yellowing leaves too
Mine is notorious for that too!
I have been panicking so hard so.... Thank you. Faking chill until I make it 😂
Some of my plants seem to yellow their leaves just to keep me on my toes. My precious syngonium that I got from a friend as a single leaf cutting started yellowing the one leaf a few weeks after planting. I desperately clung onto hope and it sprouted two new brances and then fully killed off the original leaf. Bastard. Not to even mention my benjamin figs! Those things love to start drama! (dropping their leaves for no apparent reason other than to make a mockery of me)
😂
I LOST IT at the propagation police. Enjoying browsing your collection of videos. Thanks for the quality content and keep up the good work Lee!

Thank you for your videos btw x) I've been killing plants consistently all my life but your general calm attitude and tips have really helped me be more at ease and try my hand at a lot more plants (cursed be the basement apartment though) definitely keep it up!
That's a really kind comment. Thank you so much

Do you have any idea why 2 of my monstera new young leaves turned yellow, but the older ones are still green. I water my plant every 2 weeks.
Thank you for this information as I have been intrusted in bring a plat back to life and all I'm doing is leaving it in the sun and 💧 it.
This is a super helpful video. Thank you 🙏
Your friends cameo was genius 😂
Exactly, surprisingly funny 😂
I do cut leaves off but wait until they get crispy. I leave a tiny bit of the brown so it doesn't have an open wound. Seems to work for me.
Very cool! Thanks for the infos!
Thanks for watching!
I am terrible at keeping plants, but I try. A whole section has turned yellow. But the other half is doing well. What should I do? I think it is a monstera.
How would you cut back rot on a plant like that Thai con where half of the stem is ok and half is hardened and rotting? I have a baby in this spot and the new growth keeps coming but one half keeps rotting. I can’t figure how to cut back the bad?
Sorry i missed this. Generally stem rot will continue up the stem.
You'll have to chop and prop as far away from the source of the rot as possible, and prop.
ua-cam.com/video/9mKL6aZw-hQ/v-deo.html
Wait, you can't prop an njoy or the pearls?!
love this! also a little confused--why werent you s'posed to propogate the pothos?
Yes I wondered that too I have a pearls and jade and just took cuttings a few days ago… why should I not have done that??😮
Hi, I thought that pests were attracted to the yellow leaves as a sign of disease or weakness, and that it was better to remove the yellow leaves to avoid the bugs on the plant ? is it an urban (jungle) legend ?
I’ve heard that as well. Best thing is to test it out. Js
If it's pests, you COULD remove (depending on how extensive the damage is) and treat the plant.
I did preface 'on a generally healthy plant'. I do not consider a plant that has a pest infestation bad enough to discolor leaves as a healthy plant.
My monstera adansonii is getting yellow leaves at the bottom. I would like to assume its bcuz they are old leaves but Im not sure. They are yellowing at a slower rate but today theres 2 turning yellow. Ive have it in the same pot since i got it on Feb. 14th/24 (6inch). Its getting enough light and water.....but its getting so tall now lol. I need to put it on a moss pole bcuz it out grew the trellis. Maybe it need some new soil? I dont have any of the worm casting either. I wil have to check its roots, i guess 🤔🤔 It also has fungus gnats too and they wont go away! 😫😠😤🤬
Where did you get that three level
Plant hanger in your window? I need one!!
I built it!
Lol my njoy/pearls and Jade (no clue what it is that look the same to me) randomly gets yellow leaves like yours showed. I just wait on them to be at the point that touching them makes them fall off. No biggie. It's still growing and when it's older leaves it's kinda like how we shed older strands of hair everyday, or how we shed skin cells to make room for healthy ones! If my new leaves were yellowing I would be a bit more concerned esp if it was a lot of them. 🤷🏼♀️
I wish I could find a way to get alocasia to stop the one in one out rule though! Those yellowing leaves make me sad 😢
Leafy Diva might be a good resource for help with alocasia
@@KillThisPlant thanks I'll look! My zebrina is now 3 feet tall and still only 3 leaves at a time. It looks like a giraffe 🤣
The difference in N’Joy and Pearls and jade, is that pearls and jade has green splotches/ speckling on the green parts of the plant. The green is also a bit silvery inn undertone. But green speckling/splotching on the green parts is the way to identify them.
When it comes to Alocasia, it’s kind of the same concept as what is explained in this video. Alocasia drinks a lot when producing a new leaf. The plant will drop the oldest leaf, extracting all the water and nutrients from it to sustain new growth if it’s not provided with enough water.
What you need to do, is to give it a little extra when you notice a new leaf coming in.
If you normally water it once a week…then start to give it some water like 3 days after the initial watering. Give it just enough to where no water drips out of the drainage holes. That should be sufficient.
Good luck!
@@Latayla maybe time to upsize the pot as I water my alocasias almost every other day! They are always putting out that new leaf but always losing the oldest. Perhaps a bigger pot would keep it happier even though its not root bound 🤔 I think I am just not finding the right fertilizer to work with them 🤷🏼♀️ All my other plants grow like crazy, my humidity is 50-70 percent. Perhaps a self watering pot would be a good option too 😬
@@MarisaAndChew oh wow!
Maybe too much water may be the issue? Every other day is a lot especially if they aren’t root bound🤔
You can repot with new soil and try watering once a week (twice a week when producing new leaves) and see how that goes.
Honestly, I use any all purpose houseplant fertilizer. As long as they are vetoing those NPK’s and macro nutrients.
Self watering pots may be an idea. I’m not familiar with using them. I did transfer all my Alocasia to LECA because I can’t keep up with the watering when they are actively growing. They throw a fit when transitioning, but they pull through
Ok but when i vrought my mondtera monkey mask home, it was twice the size than right now. The last leaf of every stem gets yellow and brown at the same time and they die off, while they are bringing new leaves from the top all the time. I look back at the pictures how it looked last June, and now it's half the bush.... I put it in a bigger pot, changed soil, i'm fertelizing once a month and spraying the leaves with water frequently...
you know... my gloriosum hasnt turned fully green in months. Im wondering if the algae is eating up the nitrogen in the soil or something... I did put osmocote on top. maybe I need to mix in worm castings too?
The roots ready cameo killed me haha
What potting mix do you use for pothos
a generic aroid mix. I have a playlist on soil
How often should you water your house plants
No one can tell you that. Light, soil, humidity and 14 other factors will determine how frequently you should water your plants.
Your job is to understand how frequently your soil dries out and if your plant prefers to be more dry or more wet.
Love your videos. Do you sell hoodies like the one you're wearing?

Quick question, why did my monstera stop giving fenestrations? It's about 3ft from a south facing window, is it getting too much light??
Depends. Is it still climbing a pole and secure?
@@KillThisPlant it JUST started climbing a pole
What should you do with yellow leaves when propagating? 2/3 of my monstera propagation have turned yellow
:( should I cut them off to help the plant establish roots?
If you have too much foliage on your plant to begin with during propagation that can cause a problem. It could be a case by case issue. I'd have to see.
What’s a no cut pattern am I stupid ?

i wish i would have seen this before cutting my monsteras first yellow leaf that had immense root rot
I am a botanist at the University of Florida, and I must assert that this assertion is only partially accurate. While it is true that plants prioritize their most vital structures, it is essential to recognize that, much like humans, no two plants are identical, and they are far from flawless. Yellow leaves retain the capacity for photosynthesis and, contingent upon the plant's overall condition, will continue to strive to perform this essential process. Although the plant may succeed in its attempts at self-repair, the primary rationale for excising such compromised regions is to reallocate nutrients from those areas, as they are unlikely to yield high-quality fruit or foliage.
LOL when he said scumbag I nearly choked on my rice
wait wait what did he mean about the njoy being a ‘do not propagate’ pattern??? why wouldn’t you want to and or be able to propagate that plant?
it is an illegal crime. the plant has a copyright and only its creator can sell it.
