    One helpful advice I’m being told is by other PO drivers is. Run PO till prices of trailers come down. Even if you might have the funds to buy one within the next 3-6 months. Prices for trailers (especially Dry Vans) will still be outrageously going into mid ‘22.

    Any Owner Op, better use a 90+ Broker only, any broker below that is going to cheat you; that’s a fact. Also don’t run your truck below 2.80 per mile because if your doing a truck payment and insurance plus truck maintenance your looking at around 80K- 95K just to break even on your truck costs then you have fuel cost ranging from .70c-85c per mile cost. This is a non team O/O I’m speaking of.

    • @pinoytrucking

      Power Only loads usually means it’s a shipper/broker trailer. Which is usually hook at pickup then drop at delivery. LOADOUT trailers are usually trailers that needs to be move from point a to point b at reduced rates which usually means you as the carrier will be able to utilize the trailer as you see fit. @SilverbugInc Рік тому

      @@pinoytrucking so you’re making more than an hourly driver? I doubt an hourly driver is making $600 in a day. I’m considering buying a truck and under working my own authority part time to fund a yearly vacation account. At most I want to work about 20 hrs since I’m retired. however different folks are advising me not to do it. It seems that even at rates under $2 I’d still be in there clear assuming my expenses are about 2k per month for insurance. Do you think it’s possible to go about it this way? I’m new to trucking and have no desire to work for somebody else

    • @pinoytrucking
      @pinoytrucking  Рік тому +1

      Depends on your current market location wise. I will definitely not advice you to take loads that pays under 2.50 mile. Specially local loads. Loads like 200miles and under needs to have a day rate. For example if; I wanted to be within the 200 mile ranges I will start looking into loads I can get done in one day. That said 200miles needs to pay min $800. 200miles will cost you approximately $150 in fuel. Then gotta calculate your day rate for your operating authority. If your doing it part time; I would suggest running under someone locally who’s got an established accounts with local vendors. There’s a lot that goes into it specially with what you’re wanting to do.
      Long winded answer; I would sway you from buying your own truck just to do part time unless you already know the numbers you’re expecting based on customers and rates. If not; definitely don’t go into trucking and open your own authority. Gonna cost too much $$$ to get started and only gonna be seeing a very small fraction of it back with your situation.

    • @pinoytrucking

      @@joeladame3974 I would steer clear from using a single axle unless you plan on doing strictly LTL. You’re limiting yourself into strictly LTL or you’re being a lot of extra work to yourself.
      For example; say you wanted to pickup a load that’s 30K in weight and only 20ft in length. You have to instruct the shipper to load trailer heavy or you’ll be too heavy on single axle. Unless you know you won’t go through any scale then no problem then you’re also over working that axle.
