    The best entrance i ever seen for an actor, that walk and the accompanying music is so apt for a guy like Mitch.

    What a totally underated talent.....They would always cast him as tough brute or something, but hes got more charm and humour then anyone. A great interview

    His performance in the Night of the Hunter was a tour de force and he was a much more sinister Max Cady than De Niro who was almost comical in his portrayal.

    When you think of who has an Oscar ( anyone!) and Mitchum doesn't it's maddening. The man was Deniro before Deniro was Deniro. He is considered a "naturalistic" actor ( and he was) but he also could do flawless accents and had a huge range. He also worked a lot harder than he wanted to admit. This interview shows just how articulate and quick he really was. Also Cavett is just great. He actually LISTENS to his guests. (Larry King are you listening?)

      +Jackie Rave Thanks for the kind words! I'm. a huge John Wayne fan and it was rare that anyone could " out charisma " Duke Wayne, but in El Dorado Mitchum matches Wayne step for step without "hamming " it up. ( well, maybe a teeny bit) Regardless he was just great and Night of the The Hunter is Mitchum's The Searchers. Like Wayne, he gave a Performance that I can't see anyone else doing. An Oscar would still not be enough for that role. ( also scared the stuffing out of me)

    Mitchum is part of a lost generation of American Gentleman. They were the children of the Great Depression. Self reliant, good men, with a tough exterior which they needed to survive, but with a heart of gold.

    Robert Mitchum was a man's man. Down to earth, blunt, tough, honest, charming, pick an agitative and it'll fit.Here he goes on the Dick Cavett show and he's drunk!!! That takes major stones to be stoned on national TV and not care, yet, pull off a brilliant interview. He was old Hollywood at it's most excessive and it's most vulnerable. God Bless Ya Robert Mitchum!!! We need more real men like you right now, except without the excessive boozing.

    • @SDSen
      @SDSen 5 років тому +2

      Nah man, the excessive boozing is all part of the coolness! He couldhandle the drink his drinking levels were legendary he could drink excessively and still appear to be quite normal this interview is one example. unlike say Oliver Reed who would make a joke of himself he couldn't handle that much like Mitch could.

    Mitchum is loaded from the start, yet he keeps his cool throughout the whole interview. Few actors would/could do that these days. Once he made his stake, much like Brando, I don't think Mitchum gave a fuck about Hollywood or how the producers "wanted" him to act. That's what makes these guys cool.

    Robert was part of the infamous 'studio system,' and studios like RKO would purposely put big, award-winning stars in crap films, just to make a cheap buck. The studios KNEW the film was crap, but they were in the business of putting out volume. In fact, after making 'Gentlemen Prefer Blondes' Monroe was 'stuck' in a film she hated, with Mitchum (the two were old friends), 'River of No Return.' Monroe, like Bette Davis, loathed the studio system because she wanted quality, not quantity.
