Very similar indeed. I think going back to the original Gauntlet would be like watching paint dry after playing this beast, but of course they are two very different experiences. I played it again this morning and got to the end boss, the grim reaper. Again, there was a similar character in Gauntlet if you stayed in a level too long. As children we called him the "blood sucker" and it was quite scary!
