First time I ever saw a raccoon it did this to me. Bear in mind I'm English and the scariest animals we have are foxes or earthworms or some shit. So I'm on holiday in the States & I see these two raccoons digging in the grass by the side of the road as I'm walking by at night. They're all chilled just pawing at the ground looking for grubs or something - and as I start to pass them I think "hang on, I've never seen these things before. I should just stop and watch them do their thing for a few seconds". Literally the moment I stopped, the bigger one of the two turned sideways on, puffed itself up and sprinted at my while making some keening, gargled growling noise like a crazed little shit-goblin. I was worried about bears and stuff in your woods but the raccoons were total arseholes.

One day during a heavy rain, after blasting music the night before to get em out and keep em out, I slapped a board up over the hole they regularly came in through and I shit you not, I TURNED AROUND and there it was on my porch, babies behind it. I had nothing but a hammer at this point, which I dropped figuring it was useless. Momma starts getting pissed and growling and I'm sitting over here, on one hand thinking "okay my uncle literally got killed by raccoons" and on the other thinking "BUT I'M A MAN..." Anyway long story short. Yeah. We eyed each other down and saw who was biggest. After about 30 seconds of me not backing down or averting eye contact, coupled with some less than flattering hissing noises, momma ran off and hasn't been back since. It's all about machismo in the animal kingdom!
