Hi tanks a lot for your video. But i have a question. If i want rename and REMOVE the camera exif data, how can i do it with just one action? Usually i use Batch rename and then i export the files in other folders. Thanks a lot. Best regards
You would have to do the rename and them do the metadata separately. The only way to do both is at import. The bridge camera downloader sucks and will let you rename and add some metadata. Lightrooms import is more robust and has full access to metadata.
Great video! I would like to ask the following: is it possible to exchange metadata inside the same file using metadata template? For example, I would like to automatically have the info in "credit" to also be in "copyright" to help with dynamic captions in indesign. Thanks!
You can Aphend metadata as a batch meaning you can apply a template and overwrite the metadata. If you mean somehow automatically transfer just what is in the credit to copyright the answer is no.
Hi, I wanted to ask if it was possible by selecting a group of folders to change all the images contained in the metadata in one step. Thanks and congratulations for the tutorial. Salve, volevo chiedere se era possibile selezionando un gruppo di cartelle cambiare a tutte le immagini contenute i metadati in un solo passaggio. Grazie e complimenti per il tutorial
I don't think it will do that. If you save a template it is easy to apply to individual folders. Or you could move the images into one folder and apply the metadata to them that way. Hope this helps.
I added some to a .mov file and it worked. It didn't add an .xmp file either. It is possible that it will not work for all file types. However, the most common should be fine.
First, how exactly did you add the metadata. Second, you are using windows and I have only ever used a mac. I do not get properties on a mac. While in bridge if you right click goto File Info. If it added the metadata it should appear there. You can also open the image in Photoshop and goto File/File Info. If it shows up it worked fine. If not there is an issue.
@@Jcwphoto I exactly followed every step of your video and yes it appears in the Bridge when I go to File Info but it doesn't show up on windows properties. Anyway, thanks for replying your video is awesome!
@@noeforgame there have been some weird conflicts with bridge lately. The new version won’t even run on my mac. I would contact adobe for any know issues.
Hi John, I need to add "Description" as one of the dropdown choices when batch re-naming using the Metadata option. There seems to be lots of camera metadata as an option, but I would like to pull this from the IPTC core, and rename all photos, each having it's own unique description in the filename. Is this possible without an additional plug in? thank you!
If you use the batch rename it only lets you rename. You will need to use append or replace meta data first. Then do the batch rename. However, I think it should work in the opposite direction.
@@Jcwphoto I tried that, and it doesn't work, with each metadata set up, it won't pull in the "Description" field (which is not an option in the batch re-name drop down) to be part of the filename
@@Jcwphoto yes, I get that. I don't think you understand what I am trying to do. I don't want to change the description field. All photos have a unique description that I want to appear in the filename. Using Batch rename- Metadata- there is no option to choose the description field (in the dropdown menu) to be added to the filename. example: Recital2020.001_25_04_Dancers at the Barre Recital2020.002_25_04_Dancer on Pointe Recital2020.003_25_04_Finale I can pull un sequential numbers and date, but not the unique description, as it is not an option regardless of how I set up the metadata in bridge.
Ok, I understand now. As far as I know that is not a field you can grab. If you really want to do this take a look at Photo Mechanic by Camera Bits. This program lets you use variables and will let you grab that field right from the beginning. You will not have to go back to do it. Here is a video I made. They are easy to use(I use them) and there are tons of variable options. ua-cam.com/video/gDo2Ozb2kb8/v-deo.html
When I set metadata, is it writing it to the actual photo file itself, or just in Bridge. For example, I have many photos with no GPS data. If I batch assign the location data, will it apply it to the actual photos itself, or is this a non-destructive process?
Great video really helping to figure out Bridge. With this batch rename process in Bridge can it help me to batch change Creation date of photos? Got a lot of old photos where the creation date is incorrect and need to be changed.
Quick question, John. I shoot RAW on Nikon, so I create .NEF files. Whenever I add metadata to my files in Adobe Bridge, a .xmp file is created instead of adding the metadata directly to the .NEF file. However, I don't want the .xmp file, I want the metadata to be added to the .NEF. How do I make sure the metadata is being added to the .NEF? Thank you!
It is funny how much people don’t like the .xmp file. Any way on .nef file you have to have it. The work around is to convert to.dng that embeds the .xmp in the .dng file.
@@CaitlinBailey Why would anyone not want DNGs? Seems a no-brainer to me to just use DNG. My camera (Pentax) lets you shoot in DNG. Most Pentax users who use RAW seem to use DNG rather than the camera's native RAW format.
But where is the metadata information? What happend if I use this archives in diferents PCs? What happend if l have to reinstall my OS?????? :( I dont know if this program is the answer. But I would love to organise better my stufff!

It applies it to the IPTC data fields on the photo. So it will stay attached to the image.
