    Hello, sorry for the translation, I had communicated with you by email for an IDENTICAL project and you could not help me because of the distance. When I saw this video it upset me. But I forgave you.
    I just wanted to update and tell you that I solved my problem. Because of the trees, I initially opted for a 2.4Ghz PTMP system, but there was too much interference, the performance was poor.
    I redid everything in 5Ghz. But since I didn't have line of sight with each station, I wired isolated stations with the nearest station.
    It works fine now and I even added 4 camera protect. The signal is constant and no more cuts. The boat season is coming to an end but I will probably have other areas to cover next year.
    Thank you and continue your videos, I do not miss one.

    Dear Chris,
    ThX for that very informative video. One gets a much better understanding of the capabilities of the devices when you see real examples.
    There is one point that came to my mind but I have not checked that in advance myself
    This is Europe and there are pretty big differences in legal channel use from country to country (outdoor and indoor differs e.g. in Germany) and legal output power. Your example uses 28dBm while there is a limitation (again in Germany) of 20dBm. (don't know in Greece) Since there a some geo coordinates the software you use might consider this
    Furthermore - this is "harbor". so the use of radar is pretty common and might cause interference. But that's more a 5GHz issue
    So very likely the setting switches to "Greek" according to the setting in the cloudKey, but that might effect the calcs
    Anyway - thanks a lot and waiting for the next design!

    • @Zeric1
      @Zeric1 4 роки тому

      Most wireless products across all manufacturers can adjust the maximum power output, either automatically or manually in the settings. They also try to pick frequency bands that can be used nearly everywhere, and/or have configurable channels, but one does always have to double check.

  • @jasonperry6046
    @jasonperry6046 4 роки тому

    Love the video Chris.
    Here are a few thing that have been a major consideration for me when I watch videos like this because I live outside the USA.
    Shipping, it blows my mind that there can be free shipping anywhere in the continental USA but to ship it to a border town outside the states costs an arm and a leg, before duty. And you cant forget duty, which is a pain because how much is it, I have never been able to figure out the categories and how much different things cost.
    Then there is the issue of the cost.
    If I buy something outside the stated to avoid that headache it cost substantially more, not exchange rate more, just more. I am just thankful Ubiquity now has an online store for other countries, other than it seems to have limited stock, but Netgate does not. I think I paid somewhere around $300 for my netgate SG-1100 from netgate because I am outside the US. You break down and decide it has been long enough and you want it, then you look at the exchange, then you see shipping, then you get a phone call from UPS telling you how much duty is.
    Anyways sorry about the rant, I realize the majority of your viewers are in the states. I only bring this up because the location is outside the US, and I will go back to living in my grumpy shipping and duty cost bubble and not bug people again.
    Rant over

    I would recommend a stainless steel enclosure instead of aluminum for a seaside deployment. @21:33

    • @CrosstalkSolutions
      @CrosstalkSolutions  4 роки тому +2

      The enclosure that I picked is NEMA rated IP55 - they should be good for a long while. I had one of these directly in the elements on the Oregon Coast for 3 years or so, and it's still perfectly fine.

    • @backupplan6058
      @backupplan6058 4 роки тому +2

      And not just any stainless, 316 grade stainless. The right grade of Aluminium will last a number of years in marine as long as it avoids spray of salt water because as soon as salt starts to form on that outer oxide layer it can corrode incredibly quickly. Generally a high deployment can avoid most of that spray but all it takes is a few storms with the wind in the right direction for that salt to build.

    A solid and good design Chris. If there is no way to get power from those light posts (I Assume that we would have the power from them), then maybe we need to use a solar panel on top and use a SunMax Solarswicth (since you are using the Nema box) and a Solar battery. Of course this will increase the price of the setup but as I mentioned if there is not a power source n those posts then this alternate power will do good. Also another question that I have is since you are using a cloud key why didn’t you use a UniFi security gateway or a gateway pro for your firewall? 🍻 Cheers and hopefully they hire you and go to Greece 🇬🇷

  • @drtweak87

    Why not use the NS-5AC vs the NBE-5AC? You can then just use one POE injector, enable PoE passthrough on the NS and plug right into the AP?

  • @Rosscoff2000
    @Rosscoff2000 4 роки тому

    There's no need to use 2 power supplies and injectors at each site. With passive 24v which is a very crude system, you can easily modify a stock injector or wire your own single adaptor that feeds out passive PoE from both sockets.

    If a ship with enough height comes in, those directional beams down won't be supplying those receivers blocked with a network connection. The receivers must be a couple meters higher than the maximum allowed ship height size to come into port.
    I don't think the specified height mentioned for the receivers is going to be enough to minimize interruptions.
    On a busy day, this could result in a lot of dropped connections per day.

    Very cool but I feel as if it is overkill for his needs. I'm not sure if that's fresh or salt water so that's something to keep in mind.
    At the building he could use
    2x LAP-GPS (sync'd 10ms) as the APs and an Edgerouter X SFP as the router/switch/poe as it has POE ethernet.
    Then for the "STA"'s (on the light poles) he could toss a nanostation AC (full size, with POE passthrough enabled) and then a UAP-AC-M (the Mesh AP one) wired into the NSAC.
    This would cost much less, but really depends as to what he wants to do, he didn't mention having anything because if he did he could even use M2 devices as the APs.

    Whenever I've done airmax deployments over water I've experienced better connectivity, etc when the axis are flipped (vertical to horizontal, horizontal to vertical), the only issue doing so is that the equipment ports, etc, will be compromised due to water or any other environment situation.

    • @Rosscoff2000
      @Rosscoff2000 4 роки тому +1

      Yes agreed. Signals at a low angle over water can suffer very badly from multipath propagation and rotated polarisation can help. Better still is to set back the central station antenna well back from the roof edge so the the front edge of the roof obscures the reflected path of beam on the water, and only the direct air line of sight is clear.

I'ts go 15dbi 50° antenna, so, I'd say it's worth a shot. Also, would you consider deploying ER-X if the office building (presumably theirs) were only a branch? That Netgate cost's about 8 to 10 times what ER-X cost's here in Czechia and I'm not convinced, that it is so much better, unless you really need advanced features.

      @Rosscoff2000 , no need to check, they do. U.K. user here, all they need to do for us over the U.K. is switch out the plug cable with a british one. The POE injectors work just fine out the box as well as any electronic equipment ever used. Manufacturers learnt many years ago that having power supplies that can do both while covering most of the world is far cheaper than making two product versions and being careful where they ship. Seeing as most of the world uses 220-240v 50hz it would be silly not to cover it in something that is sold in multiple countries.

    • @Rosscoff2000
      @Rosscoff2000 4 роки тому

      @@backupplan6058 Sure, that's what I said, but I wasn't talking only about Ubiquiti or other modern electronic gear with switching supplies when I said it was still wise to check. Even nowadays plenty of US visitors still burn out things like hairdryers and other devices with mains motors, transformers or heaters in them when they take them abroad! LED lights using capacitative droppers also aren't built to cope with both supplies, and some higher power PC supplies still have a 120/230 switch.
      So I'd say always best to check before moving a device from one supply standard to the other.

    This is weird. I wonder if it's someone who work at the local municipality and/or port. I doubt he can put access points on lamp poles like that. I'm sure the municipality would have to approve AP's being mounted on those poles. But awesome and interesting video!

      How do you think the phone companies are installing 5G stations on lamp poles?
      You ask the local authority how much they'd charge to rent space on the poles then negotiate a price.
      Likewise for WISPs renting space on cell towers ...although it's often cheaper to rent some hilltop land off a farmer (or offer them free internet), then put up your own mast.

    These solutions are great in theory but fail in practice. No thought of studying current RF environment at all. I've done simple PtMP and PtP with Ubiquiti 5 GHz and failed at getting a reliable link even over 10 metres in congested RF environment. Note: 60 GHz is good solution for point to point.

    It's a great concept, but if its intended to provide reliable Wi-Fi to customers inside the boats which breaks LOS, you're going to have major issues. That is at least my experience.

    • @CrosstalkSolutions
      @CrosstalkSolutions  4 роки тому +1

      The boats would have the capability to add a NanoBeam on the outside and route the signal to an AP on the inside just like we're doing on the light poles. Could be an extra paid service to offer the yachts a rental network kit + installation services.

      @@CrosstalkSolutions That makes the most sense to me and it's how I set up a deployment or two in situations like this. The problem is interpreting what the project customer and their customer's expectations are based on that email (hopefully I did not misread). The coverage will be there, it's just getting the customer to understand why they need the nanobeam+AP on the boat and the science behind it rather than "clicking on the Wi-Fi button and hitting connect". Support is the biggest hurdle in setups like this because you have to then take on running a mini-wisp and ether the project customer or yourself has to take on the support. I also find people with smaller boats live, in shall we say, a relatively low budget. It entirely depends on the market and whether you’re going to have those customers that are resistant to your deployment style and downright rude that they can't just "connect". Not a project that I would take on, but I am sure someone is out there willing to do it!

    • @noonecares189
      @noonecares189 4 роки тому

      @@Dyno4Tech Entirely depends on the market. I have worked in both “5-Star” marinas/port areas with affluent clientele and less affluent marinas & clientele. Not all boats are 300k if not just live-aboard scrapheaps to avoid paying extremely high rent. I do not want to speculate the market and my go to would be to assume it is a mix of both. Supporting those you have to rent/sell hardware too is a pain that many choose to avoid. Once again to drive the point home, the design must be market based to satisfy the specific clientele this port would have, and to that point if your selling NanoBeam+AP be prepared to offer some sort of support solution for those less adept.

      @@Dyno4Tech You never know. I just sold a coach that was $300k new, and I did not have any sort of wireless setup in it, even though I had it 4 years and I've been in IT since the 80s. But a little trailer next to me that was $25k might have a very elaborate wifi setup. I've found that my little $50 Hootoo travel router works in almost every situation, and when I need to be on LTE I use an AT&T Mobley that I pay $20 a month for with unlimited service (of course they can start throttling after 22 gig, but I have only seen that happen once) that's connected via USB to an Asus router running Tomato firmware. My new little travel trailer has a Wifi Ranger built in, and it is pretty crappy so I keep using the Hootoo.

      “For a normal person” this is a commercial deployment not someone who wants Wi-fi in their bedroom for their PlayStation. I have done home installations with Unifi due to the quality of the equipment, ease of expansion and reliability. Second hand is great if you want cheap and willing to take the risk it could fail at any time but in mission critical deployments or you want high end customers who want an install and forget deployment you can’t ask for better. If you think the equipment is too expensive than you clearly are not the target customer or someone who needs to watch this channel.

When you start using complete sentences that make sense rather that rambling on for a few words only to put “...” and then go of on a tangent get back to me for an adult conversation. At the moment it reads like someone got very upset. “I had installed a nanostation loco m5 on my own” congratulations 🥳 you are someone semi competent who can read instructions. Never realised one M5 instalment made you an expert on all of Ubiquiti. To mention only that lets me know you have just about as much knowledge on this as someone who watched a few UA-cam videos and now thinks they are an expert, no one in this industry brags about one M5 install. To suggest that because I disagree with your “expert” opinions that I’m linked to Chris and this channel in some way is a desperate attempt to discredit me. I don’t even live in the same country, my opinion is based on hundreds of deployments with over two decades of experience in this field and a incredible successful business even in these troubled times. What’s your experience beyond one M5 install and a $30 home install using second hand equipment? Not much given what you have used as shining examples so far.

It’s not as if up until now you didn’t use one complete sentence, correct grammar or just called a reply a “replay” but sure you clearly have the better English and clearly know so much more than me and Chris with your one M5 that suffered “weather”, we have never experienced something such a terrible thing as “weather”. I mean if your one M5 deployment suffered so many issues I do question the person who installed it doing it correctly with adequate protection or knowledge of setting it up.
