    That sea foam is the job! I've tried all kinds of armatures and foliage but this is the best I've seen for deciduous trees, thanks for the information.

    Excellent Job. I have used this method with Super trees and they came out incredible. Found a different way now with chop sticks grounded down and wire also which comes out Great also. Great Work, USA, Philadelphia, Pa !!!!

    just ordered some Terry , think they look a lot better than the plastic tree I have made in the past , never though of using static grass for foilage , so will give that a go now ..Thanks Dave

    Those trees look great. The trick of using static fibres instead of the foam is a good one, I reckon it would work well on certain types of model conifer trees.

    I sent off for some seeds earlier this year and have round about 100 stems. This cost £3.00 and is good if you have time. After 3 and a half months I am ready to put your method into practise. I also have some hornby armatures which I picked up for half price from a closing down shop, it produced a reasonable tree but I need to compare the two. Thanks for sharing your method

    Thanks for this Terry. I have been looking for ages for a nice cheap way of making trees and out of all the videos I seen on youtube this is the best one. Quick, easy and cheap. Consider the idea sold (to me at least)

    Thanks for sharing your technique. I've got several dioramas in the works and this poor artist can't afford the pre-fab ones. I spent two hours making one wire armature (wanted it to be long-lasting and realistic), but I don't want to spend all that time making one tree. This really gave me some good ideas.

    I recently bought a box of sea foam for 5 EUR - about 15cm x 15cm x 15cm box packed with that stuff. Try eBay, and search for "meerschaum". They ship to EU countries. The stuff is quite good, although some of the trees are a bit flat and you have to play with it a little.
    A small tip - collect the leftovers, too small for a tree, then tie a few of them together using thin wire, and you'll get a nice fluffy bush. Dip it into 50/50 PVA, sprinkle with a mix of turf and flocks (the stuff I collect in a big can, remnants of various colors), and voila!

    Well Terry Amberton(the name will always stay) has achieved something I would of not believed possible 7 years ago and I don't know how the magazine readers will receive it yet but what I do know is the model kneads to end on a high. Its an old dinosaur made of DC,insulfrog points, isolators and bad wiring but most of all runability.
    The new section will stay has this is the pinnacle I've reached and the ground from where I will start so who nose were I will end up that's the beauty of this hobby

    Nice one Terry. Here's some tips regarding the trees-(I'm not hijacking your ideas, just adding to them, I hope!!) In the 70's a series presented by Bob Symes was on the telly.(Look him up on YT). He wrote a few books too. Anyway he mentioned somewhere the perspective of 4mm scale trees, and advises that because of their "age" can exceed 30cm in 4mm. I made some to '0' gauge, and they looked very big! But when compared to the real thing seemed OK. (howarth004 has made a few too!) Cheers Bob

    Hey mate,
    Thinking of using your technique for wargaming trees. How do they survive handling? I think that in wargaming they are going to get quite a bit more of a battering than on a train layout, so am concerned that it may not work?
    Thanks

    • @bloodmarine77
      @bloodmarine77  10 років тому

      well they are probably not suitable for lots of handling to be honest as the grass is only stuck on by the hair spray or glue and will fall off fairly easy. for wargaming i would buy ready made trees as they are more sturdy.
      the ones i made in this video are still as good today as they were when i made them but thats down to them not being man handled.

There is a product called Supertrees from the company Scenic Express which is available. They look similar to Gaugemaster Seafoam Trees.
