@@SporePunch flipping the deck over and winning with thoracle is way 'less fun' and wayy easier I guess was my point. So I don't find it reasonable to lump them together
Little offended my list was refered to as nonsense, but I totally get it. I have been playing around with a lot of "spicy" builds. Edit after finishing the video: I am not a big fan of so many 4+ drops. And my testing with 6 MDFCs have been painfully I can't imagine 8 is a good idea. Pyrogoyf has convinced me not everything needs to be 3 cmc, but 3 should be the average.
@ReyaadawnMTG I have fiddled with it a bit. I think it doesn't impact the board enough when it drops. Too often it's gone before I can untap with it. It doesn't have haste, and is really hard to speed into play, and unlike Razorkin, it isn't a good threat to drop on T2 after a T1 Blood Moon. Like many opponent choice cards, I don't think it does want I want, when I want it to. If I am paying 3 mana, I want my creatures to do more immediately. Either making me tokens or being able to apply instant pressure.
As someone who watched Bryant and TES all the time, knowing about the Approach win in the sideboard made me the big sads for Moom Stompy, but at the same time it is SO weird not watching Bryant play TES.
As someone who loves the Rabble Plan, I can say 4 Pyrogoyf backs up 4 Rabblemaster and 4 Bombardiers pretty well. I wish there was room to run 2 Legion Warboss to help fuel Bombardiers with tokens for shocks. 8 sources for tokens (Goblins and Treasures) is fine, but I think Bombardiers really needs at least 10 for the aggressive pressure he wants to represent.
I know I'm crazy asking for a sanity check in the comments of a UA-cam video, but I've got a deck idea. I think a big air quotes froggy one deck could be interesting. Running both root Wallace, vengevine, hollow one, psychic frog as creature package Hi Samantha. LED and echo of aeons would be one way to get huge card advantage, and you could do beseech for song of creation to make turns more explosive similar to how storm does it. Think the epic Storm, but using psychic frog as an enabler for madness creatures
what do you think of these ajustments: 4x Laelia, the Blade Reforged instead of 4x Caves of chaos ? add 4x ghost vacuum in SB Take 1or 2 shatter skull off for basics mountains.
I have been thinking of something similar. I think it really relies on Gemstone Cavern/Chrome Mox/Lotus Petal/Mox Diamond to be able to jam a T1 or T2 Harbinger. Though you also have an unblockable aggro beat plan if you run it in a Merfolk shell. I think it's just too slow to get the same results as Moon Stompy.
athlete is neat but a lot worse in a sol land stompy shell imo, the double red pips are a significant downside when your mana is relatively easy to interact with and based on having 2 colorless + a spirit guide or chrome mox. its nice cause its mb blanket removal but its almost always coming down the same turn that a coca, pyrogoyf, or ring would come down, and i think the athlete is just worse than all of those cards
I have been playing around with Star Athlete some. I think it has value as a way to capitalize on a length tournament where people begin suffering mental fatigue, and he can be repeated removal. But often, he just was removal bait and did nothing else. I just posted my list on Moxfield. Just look up Anubuss
Way too many 4 drops, obviously. Honestly, i think the Goyf is the cut and is replaced by Magus of the Moon. Just move Goyf to the sideboard for when it is good.
That Approach of the Second Sun tech was awesome. It's always great to see a card unexpectedly make its way into an eternal format.
Bryant has been playing it for that exact scenario, so it's become stock
I hate cards like that and Thoracle. Terrible design and the opposite of fun to play against.
Approach is a lot harder to pull off than Thoracle @@SporePunch
@@kylejoly577 I never said it wasn't? I just don't like the design of either. Thoracle is obviously the better of the two and I never said otherwise.

Brian and Phil dropping red stompy deck videos what a wonderful day
As a Moon Stompy fan, I am very happy right now.
With no sarcasm, it was great you made them play it out round 5 and used that time to organize dozens of dice.

I'm a firm believer that we can do 4x4 drops and everything else should be 3 or less
I don't know about "nonsense" but this is not the ideal build so it is going to get some criticism.
Have you tried Star Athlete at all. The two red pips hurts, but it does cost 3 so on a non-soul land hand it seems great.

Don't take it personally....they all just have that attitude. it is what it is.
Seeing pyrogoyf do so well makes me wonder how usable a boros flicker deck could be. Abuse it's entry triggers, and potentially be a fun deck to brew
That Approach blew my mind, last thing I expected
7:45 I love that card. Good stuff

after seeing the 3 different variants of this you've tried, I wonder how well a build with rablemaster broadside and pyrogoyf would work

Did you check out a similar list that won eternal weekend in Japan?
Regarding the intro: Seeing you play red stompy IS a fun deck :D

I think it makes sense to have most of moon stompy’s cards stop at 3 mana, pyrogoyf is very cool though

just listened to the podcast talking about this experiment
I will test -4 caves +4rabblemaster -2shatterskull+2mountains
You don't just regularly qualify, you "super" qualify.
Oof only 3 mountains? Could never be me I don't leave the house without at least 8 basics
you da best Phil
A very silly idea - what if Blood Moon, but blue? Play 4x Back to Basics, 4x Harbinger of the Seas, Murktide Regent, and blue cards?

As always love the videos
I still really like Star Athlete in this deck, even just a couple copies and then 3x Broadside and 3x Chaos Adventurer.

Wahoo!!! Go goyf go!

that first list was hella lit, second sun represent
8 bolt lands, 4 ancient tomb and 4 one ring. Oof
engagement!

Red red get em dead!!
hehe red cards go brrrrrrr
4 drops are a lot easier to cast with a sol ring 💍
There are reasons the card is restricted in vintage and a higher pick than black lotus in vintage cube
