  • In the first video of our recent trip to Ireland, we are looking inside a forgotten asylum with beautiful decay. Power functioned through parts of the structure somehow which was one of the unexpected discoveries we made in the gigantic facility.

The sad truth about many of these institutions in ireland that many healthy and sane people were committed by family members over money land and inheritance. A.priest or cop was all that was needed to finish the job

Not true. An appalling and shocking myth that shows the total ignorance re mental illness and how it was hidden because of social stigma. No one outside the family would have any idea about mental illness therein. There was and is a high incidence of such illness and disability in Ireland because of intermarriage in small isolated communities. Now these folk are cared for in the community; then they were committed as there were not the meds to cope otherwise.

@@islanddweller3674 -Not to mention pregnant women who committed the horrendous sin of not being married. Clearly a menace to decent society, and should be locked up and have their children taken away.....apparently.
Search on this: ' Tuam mother and baby home'.....800 death certificates and zero graves. Whoops. Still, you can't arrest a Nun.

My dad worked here in 1962
on his first day on the job he got punched out by an inmate
he then met many people who were there for no reason at all
one guy couldnt sleep so used to walk at night
    he got put away
many got put there for land or other things
some were just ordinary people who were a bit "odd"
Dad spent 3 years there and it affected him the rest of his life
his biggest fear was losing his mind
oddly enough dementia took hold and we could laugh about it
If you think that mentality of putting people away for the great good was only for bygone days
    think again
The covid thing is making many lose their shit and seek similar sanctions..........

Big respect to your da pal. Most people need to know that the 50s and 60s in Ireland was a dark place and even thought it's tried to be covered up. These old asylums and the mother and baby homes and the memories the people here at the endure will remain forever and should be learned about.

I may check it out when I'm over that side of the country again. We have st. Beautiful building also, shame to see them wasted

Courage comes to mind here!!! Whatever the morbid architecture and purpose of the asylum, a lot of unecessary human suffering had taken place and amazes me that the building had never been demolished - possibly awaiting a thorough paranormal investigation like this to come along in the very near future???? its' as if the building and its past inhabitants needed a voice and you have given that to them exceptionally without prejudice and humanitarian inquiry - amazing 👌

    • @resolve_media21
      @resolve_media21 Рік тому

The building has had talks of being demolished as apparently it's an "eyesore to the town". In my eyes it's the opposite from what I've seen of inside and outside the asylum compared to the town. It's beautiful especially with the central building with the oxidised copper dome and clock tower

As Irishman with massive homeless Irish dieing on our streets its unacceptable there these buildings rotting, decaying been destroyed vandalised. The church needs use some of there wealth getting these buildings safe liveable to restore people's faith but firstly stop homeless people dieing. Especially wen there is massive wealth held by church. Faith churches dont need wealth as in money. There teaching purpose to feeds souls unite a community is stronger then going threw life alone.👍🇮🇪☘

Paul 0neill , as much as I would love to pass off the blame onto the RC church , the ayslums were state run nothing to do with the other infamous institutions.
Presided over by doctors not priests but used as society's dustbins like the others. Unfortunately we will not hear about the abuse that went onto here on healthy & vulnerable patients (or inmates).it was mostly families that committed there members for a large number of reasons , many not honourable but it was a very different era, the same thing can be said about the church abusive institutions. What happened was sick but society as a whole was also complicit.
