- This is my Review of Amouage Overture Man (the orange beast) from 2019 created by Karine Vinchon-Spehner. It is also the last great Christoper Chong perfume and what a way to go out with one of my all time favorite boozy fragrances.

Yes! Yes! Honestly, one of my favourite fragrances.Glad it got a review! I don’t get the reformulation stuff, i tested the new bottle last week and it lasted and projected for lots of hours on me, more than enough if you do 5 sprays imo. I love the grapefruit, ginger opening. Myrrhe, smoke, the cumin, it’s slightly animalic plus the cognac, i love this so much. Thanks, Ram!
5 sprays is chemical warfare 😅. Overture gets louder and louder for me as the minutes goes by.

I concur. I have a newer bottle and performance is great. Never tried the older version but wouldn’t want it to be stronger than it is now in any case.
Reformulation talk isn't limited to performance. My main beef with reformulations is a general cheapening of the quality of the scent, regardless of performance differences.

I don't really prescribe to the whole season thing... I have found some of these heavy fragrances show different facets in the heat

Overture Man is a work of complete genius and one of the greatest perfumes ever composed. 15 out of 10.

I'm still living off a decant of this beauty and my search continues for a Harrods original bottle... I'm gradually trading up for non-magnetic and name on side bottles, as there are differences when I have both side by side.

This should be great. My favorite Amouage fragrance. Backed it up immediately, just because you never know what’s going to happen.

You should try Nishane Afrika Olifant. It’s ambergris, leather, civet, castoreum, Amber, oud and musk. It smells as if all the animals at the zoo are wearing tuxedos.

It's so nice to hear this. We research fragrances, shop for them, watch reviews, wear them and enjoy them... But to me it's like the culmination of everything when you get a 30-ish minute review talking about every detail and precisely why it is so good, the exact same way we talk about other great works of art. Bravissimo maestro!
Overture and fetish by roja are two that I consider the top class of the "show stopper" kind of heavy masculine fragrances. I think overture is even more artistic, though.
One thing people leave out when talking about overture, to my mind, is that it does seem to me like it actually has a lot of sweet amber in it, maybe a little from the cognac as well. A couple people actually told me it hit as this warm lovely "unisex" by the time they had smelled it off me ( I would not expect that to be the case most of the time, from most noses.) Overture just has it all. I love the way that amouage uses cumin in the best way to bring out this warmth feeling. I think the underlying sweet easy to like notes that contrast the ultra -masculine is also why I like fetish.
Overture to me, the first time I smelled it, the image I got was of a man at a family winter holiday get together who had made it in life, was loved by the whole family and respected and very mature. He had a warming presence like you were right by the fireplace on a cold night. It has all the most masculine elements for a winter setting, smokiness and animalic, and marries it all so well.

Cumin is not my favorite note either but the scent is so good I look past it
Liked and watched the video as soon as I saw Overture Man. Truthfully, I struggle to detect the grapefruit note in my full bottle and sample (reformulated version). Anyways, the dry down is amazing. The resins really swirl and make me feel so confident...even feels like a beautiful syrup of balsamic notes. This has been my gateway to resinous and animalic accords in perfumery. Depending on the weather i do struggle with performance as i have to reapply after a few hours.
I found your channel by watching the family portfolio and you got me knto exploring leather notes as such. Excellent review Ramsey. Cheers I'll share a glass of whiskey!

Just stopping in to say thanks for your review and passion yet again for perfumery! yours and another channel named seldomly often's amouage content are my favorites on youtube, although he's a bit more positive on the salmon era, haha 😂
I've been getting cooler nights over here where I am during summer, so I decided to whip out some of the samples i have from amouage, to gauge what i truly appreciate and want to pull the trigger on for purchase. Overture, along with every other Karine V.S. work in the collection, is stunning. I'll defend her work even into the Salmon era, as lineage pleasantly surprised me and you already know my positive opinion of boundless, haha! I found myself not only agreeing with this video for overture, but also in a similar vein with boundless:
overture's structure of having a stellar opening that has aspects lingering throughout a similarly solid dry down phase -- i can even see that in boundless as well, at least on my skin. The elemi in that one is present and gives a great tangibility to the opening and even mid, adding something that i can only describe as 'chewy.' And it meshes just as well with the dry and earthy facets of the tobacco and patchouli deeper in that drydown. And even for something ive seen been called more 'generic (??)' theres still a healthy cumin accord that adds edge and character. Instead of a wonderful cognac, we get a bourbon vanilla which is more subdued but i believe has an elegance to it.
In a way, even if it might sound as sacrilege to you given how far apart boundless and overture are in your rankings, i see them as cousins to one another. One is bold and animalic, the other is smoothed out and more dry, but equally enjoyable for me. I wore them essentially side by side across 2 days and i gotta say i love both 😊 I'll definitely still be keeping an eye on Karine's work in the house along with the library collection which i still very much enjoy.
The rest of the new line isnt as much of a hit with me aside from a few outliers, but i still think the house is pushing some creative releases, albeit in a bit more of a traditional european interpretation of perfume.

A Top 3 Amouage for me! I get excited for Fall/Winter because this one smells soooo good in the crisp, cool air!
Was not a love right away. First time, I was like wtf is this!? Grapefruit, cumin, & brandy!? But was so intrigued and kept coming back. Didn’t take too long and she won over my heart. ❤️😊

Would you say this is wearable in the summer? I’m from Texas and I know you said you are too. Seeing how winter doesn’t last long in Texas I want to know if you’ve tried it in the summer? I bought a decant and my wife and I fell in love with it.
I wear it all year long... I don't really put my frags into seasons anymore
In fact sometimes the warmer weather will bring out different aspects of a fragrance

So it's my Scent Of The Day.
Somehow I'm instantly hungry when I smell it.
It's just more serious and more masculine Cognac scent than Roja's Enigma Pour Homme parfum.
Perfect for fall and winter !
And of course, as a person who adore classical music, my first association is Overture from Mozart's opera "The marriage of Figaro", playing in Wiener Staatsoper ( the opera house in Wien).
To compare Christopher Chong's era in Amouage with mr. Salmon's is like a comparison between the finest wines vs. the beers.
My favourite Amouage fragrances are : Jubilation xxv and 25, Dia Man, Interlude Man, Beloved Man (Rich would like the Elemi in that one), Reflection Man, Epic Woman and, of course, Overture Man, which absolutely deserves its place in the Hall of fame.
The hidden message in this fragrance is mr. Chong's last "Cheers" to all of us.
There are some creative directors and just a few creative geniuses.
Christopher Chong is one of them.
Our brother Eugen can also be one of them in the future.
We have a perfect weather here in my city, during this week.
The work is going great.
The samples of Interlude Woman and Overture Woman are on the way to my home.

It is a good perfume, what can I say, the bottle is absolutely stunning. Not sure which one I prefer, M of F version, but I don't own any, a bit too boozy for someone who doesn't drink

The most classical for me is gold man... give that one a try if you are shooting for more of a classical style perfume
Guy Robert signed Gold & his favorite perfume was Lanvin Arpege so if you like that style you will love Gold Man

All 3 are completely different frags... Overture Man is my favorite of the 3
Just got mine , it’s very Middle East alright. Quite oily but I’m having a tough time with the Cumin as it dominates the Cognac on first spray . I’ll wait for the bottle to stabilize and try again with a dry down .

Hi mate. Love your videos. I have been watching this particular review for at least 5 times whilst waiting for my overture to arrive and I just got it today! This was a blindbuy. A risky one as I have heard people saying this is not safe fragrance (the most offensive fragrance), too animalic, smells like BO/cumin bomb bla bla bla. So I was really nervous before test spraying it on my hand.
Firstly, I have to admit I just got into amouage and I bought 4 bottles in a span of 2 weeks! (Reflection, black iris, jubi25, and the most recent acquisition Overture). I hated amouge when I was younger. Now that im in my early 30s I decided to revisit amouage (best decision ever). I love all of my first three amouage acquisitions.thats why i decided to blind buy overture because I am falling in love with Amouage.
Now back to my thoughts on Overture: This is GORGEOUS!!! Absolutely amazing fragrance. Hype is real for me. Exceeded my expectations and then some. I think my nose has evolved as I really enjoy the slight animalic facets of this fragrance. This does not smell like BO to me whatsoever. This classy, and SEXY,well at least for me. The drydown is seductive. Smoky, slightly animalic leather, woody. Pure art in a bottle that is wearable for me. Especially in the winter. In terms of performance, My batch of Overture is quite subtle. It doesnt project as well compared to the black iris. Which is fine with me. I prefer this scent to be subtle. I cant wait to wear this in the winter. Man, I am addicted to Amouage. Officially my number 1 niche house now.

From your last video, I'm going to try overture women. The only one amouage i tried was lilac love and I wasn't impressed. I'm still trying to figure out, from all the amouages, LL was the one I tried first?? I don't know where my head is sometimes 🤦🏼♀️

Hello! Great review on an amouage fragrance I've never been moved to checkout. Now with your review on it Id only be willing to check it out is if I was able to get an original bottle with name on bottle such as the one you own.
As it is right now I own 1,Lyric man 2. Sunshine Man 3. Beloved Man 4. 5Jubilatiin Man & Reflection Man vintage 30ML bottle that comes off much more spicier than the reforms put out later.
As for the transition of house going from Chris W. to the current guy, with frags being personal & subjective, I'm sure there are a plethora of frag heads out there who love what's being put out now. that said ,the brand under Wong IMHO seems to have been more daring & creative with frags put out.

Ramsey, you're vid inspired me to wear Overture Man today (the day after your review). I love this perfume, and can back-up everything you say about it. Except, my bottle is newer and has OVERTURE written on the front. Unfortunately, it is not The Orange Beast that you have. Projection and longevity are, what I would call, average. After 5-6 hours, its a mellow skin scent. Baring that, it's an absolutely brilliant perfume. While I can't rank my Amouage collection, Overture Man is towards the top.

I got a sample of this in the mail 2 days ago. I'm..........not loving this so far. I'm struggling with the animalics in it, particularly paired with that cognac note. I appreciate the other notes in here, though. I'll have to keep trying this one. I initially had problems with Interlude Man but came around to it, so I'll see with this one.

I was so close to picking this up but after reading Fragrantica reviews of the reformation and performance I changed my mind. Too bad I won’t get to try this unless I find an old bottle.
I just got a 2018 Jubilation and compared it to my 2023 and there is a HUGE difference. The oil it leave on my skin alone is noticeable. I also found a 2018 Epic Man so I am pretty pumped about that.
No way I am going to give this house a cent. Sucks for anyone who pays retail for watered down fragrances.
