The main problem is the lack of paint today. And aesthetic colouring. Back then, the main sponsor "painted the car" and it usually looked great. Today they've all stripped the paint off, and the little paint they have is a mishmash or sponsors fighting for exposure. Wouldn't it be great if F1 mandated cars aren't allowed to drive with exposed carbon fibre. The lap time difference is nonsensical, spread over a season, but the visuals makes a difference. Also, while I'm ranting. Please bring back proper helmet colourings again. \o/
FAST. He was one of the few driver who could drive fast and keep his tires relatively unharmed and that is why he won 4 WDC. The 1991 Ferrari was definitely not the car he wanted and Ferrari should have gave him a better car instead of kicking him out
"Ferrari should have gave him a better car instead of kicking him out" I always found that odd and hard to understand. With Senna under contract to McLaren (and wanting to drive a Williams - even for free), Mansell at Williams and Piquet pushing 40 and driving for his retirement at Benetton what other top driver could Ferrari hope to have in 1992?? Alesi was still just "promising" and surely they didn't expect Capelli to pull a miracle?
Not my favorite driver but if you watch the in-car camera no-one else is as smooth with the controls. He looks like he's having a relaxing drive on a country road. And undoubtedly very adept at racecraft and strategy.
Gaucho. What is it with ignorant Senna fanboys like you. Prost worked very hard to help the teams with their cars Ferrari gave him the truck no wonder he complained about it, they did not really fire him, they paid him not to drive for any other team in 1992. Maclaren did not fire Prost, he left the team because Senna was getting all the support from the team and Honda. Prost had the best team mates and he beat them all. Senna wanted the best car and without Prost he may never have got the drive at McLaren.
Gaucho. You call me ignorant yet the Ferrari in 1991 was not at all good, 1990 they had a good car and Prost may have won at Suzuka if Senna had not driven into him. Prost won 5 races and Mansell 1 with Suzuka it would quite likely be Prost 6 wins and the title. 1991 Prost could not win a single race, obviously the car was not a patch on 1990. You are truly very ignorant. Prost was known for his ability to set up cars, Senna copied Prost's set ups in 1998. Prost wanted the best car, who didn't but prost made second rate cars look good. Prost stayed with Renault for three years trying to help improve the car, then he got offered the seat at McLaren and Lauda only won by 1/2 a point, Prost won 2 more races. The next year Prost won easily and Lauda said that Prost was too fast for him. Senna did not beat Prost in 1988, Honda tried very hard to let Senna win and only the bad points system gave Senna the title being 11 points behind Prost, 1989 it was 21 points and Honda and the bad points system failed to help Senna again. 1990 at Ferrari when Prost was working for the team setting up the cars Mansell was of playing. Mansell was upset at how much faster Prost was. Why not ask Jean Alesi about 1991, I have never heard him say anything bad about Prost, I notice you leave out Rosberg in 1986 Maybe you could lie about what he said too. Then again what about Damon Hill in 1993, you do not mention him either. Maybe you are just an ignorant fool who knows nothing about F1 or any of the drivers. Go back to the Senna movie and some pathetic UA-cam videos you get all that rubbish from.
Gaucho. You claim to not be a Senna fanboy, then you are just a hater of the best driver you never saw race, the driver Senna had to try so hard to beat. The fact that the Ferrari in 1991 was not half the car it had been in 1990 is very obvious to all except fools and Senna fanboys, take your pick. Your next sentence is unintelligable. Lauda won in 1984 by just 1/2 a point, I never said it was unfair, but Prost was faster and 1985 Prost won by 23 points. 1988 when Senna won by earning 11 points less than Prost was fair only in the eyes of Senna fanboys or fools, take your pick. Hill was a new driver but he was good and in what way a 2nd driver, Williams had no 1st or 2nd driver. Eddie Cheever has said that Prost was the best driver. Rene Arnoux was not even close to Prost and he did not ever help Prost even when Prost was in with a chance of the title and Arnoux was well out of it. Rosberg said after 1986 "Prost is the best driver I ever raced against and he is bloody quick. mansell was upset at how much quicker Prost was. Prost was the best ever at setting up cars and getting the most out of them. Maybe ask Frank Williams or Ron Dennis. If you ever grow up it would be a surprise.
Sou Brasileiro más reconheço ,Alain Prost conhecido como professor pilotava muito , e tinha muita cautela e paciência está entre os três melhores que eu vi .

@@stam1ska On street cars most V6s sound like a wet shart because they’re driven by people finding the loudest exhaust system possible with no thought put into the note itself and how to achieve it (eg: where/if the exhaust merges from the two banks, resonators, etc.) like how, say, R35s manage to produce their distinctive note. Not so sure about F1 v6s but I’d hazard a guess and say they’d be making a nicer note if they were an inline configuration, though they don’t sound bad compared to 2014-16. That being said, I don’t think it’s possible to get a V6 to sound anything like the F1 V12s of yesteryear, without doubling the required engine RPM at least.
He is a Frenchy, it is their nature to act that way. But the fact remains, he was a incredibly smart driver, and handled his cars and tires to get the maximum out of them. And he drove in the era of the monster Turbos. Compared to todays drivers, he is head and shoulders above them.
The one and only, unsurpassed, "The Professor" in da classroom!!! At his best! "Absolute graceful performance! Wining at the slowest speed possible!"-Frank Williams.
The on board camera and V12 sound saved the sport. The viewer count went up 35 percent one year and 50 the next. Everyone wanted to ride along with the Ferrari drivers or a Lamborghini engine car. The number of counties carrying F1 went up 25 percent. An amazing era
Prost certainly deserved a better car, just look what he did in 1990, even having Mansell as team mate and Mansell beng treated as the number 1 driver, Prost at Mexico was 13th on the grid, 1.3 seconds slower than Mansell who was 4th on the grid, Prost won the race over 25 seconds ahead of Mansell. Prost won 5 races to Mansell just 1. If anyone thinks Prost was given number 1 status maybe they should look at Monaco where prost's car was damaged at the start through no fault of his and he had to take the sapre for the restart, the spare was car set up for Mansell.
Mansell treated as No 1 you talk crap he was given the crap car all that year he had 9 engine failures Prost hardly broke down he was given all the special treatment. When Ferrari fired Prost they said they had wish they kept Mansell gave him the good car they would of done so much better that year i have the article with them quoting that still.
Paul. Maybe you do not know that Mansell was notorious for being harder on cars and why was the spare car set up for Mansell? mansell won just one race, beaten soundly by Prost . Just look at Mexico when Mansell qualified 4th and Prost 13th over 1.2 seconds behind, Prost came through the field to win and Mansell came 2nd 25 seconds behind. How do you get Mansell faster than Prost is a mystery. All year prost was fighting Senna, Mansell was not in it. Maybe you missed out on how Prost helped the team with all the development in 1990 and Mansell when not at the race was away playing. 1991 when the Ferrari was not at all good and the team instead of listening to Prost who was trying to help improve it, tried to put blame onto Prost, aybe he should not have called it a truck but he was right as the results showed, Jean Alesi could do little with that car either and he was not a slow driver. Ferrai paid Prost to not drive for any other team the next year. Just as Williams paid Prost for 1994 and Senna desperate for a drive offered to race for nothing.
Prost was lucky he got the good care i don't what your point is yes he beat Mansell but he given treatment when he fired Ferrari actually said they wished they back Mansell over Prost in 1990 that said it all. Mansell not on hard on cars and when his car was good he was unstoppable look at him in the Williams in 1991 he blew Prost away and 1992 his record in the Williams was better than what Prost did in 1993 he more wins and poles. You say Mansell was scared of Prost that is why he ran to indy car actually not true Willams try to reduce to cut his salary just so Prost or Senna could join in 1993 only reason he left. Why should he take a pay cut when he did all the hard work risking his life making Williams great again for a driver that had been sitting on his ass all year and who wasn't doing anything. Mansell said he had no problem driving with Prost again but knew Williams was going treat him like Ferrari did giving Prost better treatment he wasn't stupid.
Paul. I guess you missed out on how many of the Ferrari engineers liked Prost because of how well he understood the cars and how he helped to improve them. Mansell in 1991 had arguably the best car, Senna also had a very good car, The Ferrari was not good or why did Alesi not achieve anything much in it? Mansel in the best car lost the title. Senna only won in 1991 because Mansell blew engines up too often. The 1992 Williams was by far the best car and Prost was not there or who knows? The 1993 Williams was said to be not as dominant as the 1992 Williams and Mansell having tried to get more money than Williams were prepared to pay ran away to Indy cars. Mansell only had a problem with Prost because he could not keep up with him even when Mansell was being treated like the number 1. Who was fastest? Brazil won 5 races and Mansell just 1. If you think Prost was given preference just tell me why the spare car was set up for Mansell and not Prost? Maybe because Ferrari knew Mansell was more likely to need it. When did Mansell work hard? he did nothing in the way of set up leaving that to others. Even when Mansell had the best car in 1986 he failed to beat Prost in the inferior McLaren, then 1987 Piquet his team mate beat him. Mansell could drive fast, sometimes almost as fats as Prost but Prost was not only usually faster but more consistant. Williams were not stupid they knew who was the best.
They still fired him in the end that means he wasn't well liked unlike Mansell they wanted Mansell back in 1991 and said they backed the wrong driver. Mansell was never worried about Prost when it came to speed he much faster he was look at Silverstone 1990 that qualify lap that was Mansell v Prost to me totally blew him away. If Mansell had Prost's car he would of won title that year and you know that. Prost 1993 Williams was better than 1992 but he never match Mansells record in 1992 not close.to the 9 he had won that proves if Mansell given a good car he wipe the floor with everyone. Williams broke their promise to Mansell in 1992 by cutting his salary that is why he walked away if they honoured their contract with him he would of driven with Prost. Also what about Prost running away from Senna in 1993 you say Mansell ran from him but did the same regarding Aryton who to me was the best driver of all time.
A phenomenal driver who could go toe-to-toe with Senna on speed. I once asked Jackie Stewart who did it rate between them and he immediately said Prost because he always got a result and very rarely made mistakes.
in the dry, yes, he rarely failed. in the wet he made a lot of mistakes. i remember Monaco 82, he was in the lead and when 3 laps to the end it began to rain he crashed. same in Brazil 93, in Montreal 89, Estoril 85, not to forget the huge mistake of Imola 91, when he lost the car durging formation lap parking his Ferrari for the tifosi disappointment. but overall Prost was one of the greatest of this sport: his application with technicians, his skilluful car setting, his work behind the curtains, his effective driving style which was most impressive. he made it look effortless, saving tyres without slowing down. very interesting to observe.
@@herbertfischnaller4516 Yet being a great supporter of the frenchman I am still convinced that he didn't feel comfortable on the wet...He told that he simply disliked the visibility issues coming from racing in the rain and as well he also couldn't forget the Pironi accident.
@@INDIGOBLUE555 yes, visibility is a key factor in wet races. for ex. Silverstone 88. Prost was trapped in traffic after a bad start and finished lapped by Senna. he simply wasn`t in his element that day. on the other hand we have Spa 89, when he was in 2nd position and his pace was decent and he was able to keep behind Mansell. so when the condition allowed it he was able to make well.

agree. Prost was better overall. but Senna was the man for mission impossible. i cannot immagine Alain or Nigel win with a car which has 100 hp less than the top (Donington 93) or winning with one gear (Interlagos 91). even at Ferrari that year they doubted that was real, too bad that Senna had a onborad camera that day and he had manual gearshifting. you can clearly see how he does not leave his hand from the wheel....but ok, Prost had the ability to make look the sport effortless. in fact, in qualifying he beated all his teammates from 1980 on (and he had a lot of quick ones), with the exception of one guy....
Super vidéo. Les caméras sans stabilisateur permettent de bien comprendre l'état réel de la piste sachant que les pilotes ont un confort minimal (surtout Prost).
Yeah so his steering wheel decided to punish him by breaking during one of the fastest curves in the history of Formula 1. Wtf man, are you serious? It was an obvious mechanical failure that killed Senna, nothing to do with confidence. He has lost his composure because Rubens was in the hospital and Roland Ratzenberger was in the grave after these two accidents that happened during the race weekend. Things like that ALWAYS make you have second thoughts on everything
I went to several races in the early 90's when everyone had switched to V10s except Ferrari. You could clearly hear when the Ferrari's were coming, the sound was so different from the V10s. Then the rules killed the V12 and everyone sounded the same 😞

Fact: Prost had five World Champion teammates. FIVE!!!! Keke Rosberg, Ayrton Senna, Nigel Mansell, Niki Lauda and Damon Hill. And he beat 'em all. People say Schumacher is better. Don't make me laugh. He had only lackeys and puppets as teammates. He was a great driver and his battles with Hakkinen, Raikkonen and Alonso were intense. But he never had to compete them in the same car.

Nice jump start! He started rolling before the the lights went out. But epic to see the past.
What an insanely incredible sound OMG!
alain prost!!!won 4 titles by using his brain.thats what i respect most about him.
Not my favorite driver but if you watch the in-car camera no-one else is as smooth with the controls. He looks like he's having a relaxing drive on a country road. And undoubtedly very adept at racecraft and strategy.
Good old Monza, still without the messed up 1st chicane and without the slowed down Lesmos... (and an awesome V12 inside the truck... :D )
He was driving the truck 😎
+BorlandRIP8
I would like to own one of this "Trucks" : )
+Karl S.
Not the one from 1991 you wouldn`t
Why not ask Jean Alesi about 1991, I have never heard him say anything bad about Prost,
I notice you leave out Rosberg in 1986
Maybe you could lie about what he said too.
Wow, amazing. With the passage of time you forget just how exciting F1 was! Le prof!
Listen to that fabulous music.
Sou Brasileiro más reconheço ,Alain Prost conhecido como professor pilotava muito , e tinha muita cautela e paciência está entre os três melhores que eu vi .
Lauda: It's a pig!
Ferrari: Ok
Prost: It's a truck
Ferrari: You're fired!
Lauda won 2 WDC with Ferrari while Prost couldn't even finish the parade lap without crashing at Imola,....
V12 high revs!!!
Gives me chills!!!!
To be honest, V6 should sound absolutely the same. I don't have a single idea why it doesn't in F1 nowadays.
You're wrong. Inline 3, inline 6, V6 and V12 - all have mostly the same sound. If you don't trust, just check these videos:
ua-cam.com/video/KyBE48iYlsM/v-deo.html - Daewoo Matiz, inline 3
ua-cam.com/video/qo5mQKS4068/v-deo.html - BMW E46 325i, inline 6
ua-cam.com/video/Cp9rAGzCPDg/v-deo.html - Audi A4 3.0, V6
ua-cam.com/video/dkpvtFVXDLw/v-deo.html - Mercedes S600, V12
V8 and V10 have different sound, that's true.
Even Andre de Crasheris was above the winey wimps they have now.
Man even in the early 90s Monza looked so damned classic with those bill boards and the track side stands. Also those fuck off curbs were the best.
awesome, in another dog of a ferrari too!
great move on alesi, so scary!
Prost will always be my favourite F1 pilot
Wow, that snap on gear change through Curve' Grande was vicious. Showed "The Professor" sublime skills
The one and only, unsurpassed, "The Professor" in da classroom!!! At his best! "Absolute graceful performance! Wining at the slowest speed possible!"-Frank Williams.
Schumacher's second F1 race here, and first points finish.
Those guys had gigantic balls of titanium got driving those cars. Sitting up high on there cockpit, exposed to so much danger, pretty exhilarating
The on board camera and V12 sound saved the sport. The viewer count went up 35 percent one year and 50 the next. Everyone wanted to ride along with the Ferrari drivers or a Lamborghini engine car.
The number of counties carrying F1 went up 25 percent. An amazing era
You can thank Australia for the technology.
This is the real F1, today's competition is 5% driver - 95% car and it's not the same.
Thx for that impressiv good old days on board .
Magnificent engine Sound ❤
Shit! Those were the days...
What an engine sound!!!
I missed out on this era, never heard this thing in real life but my god... this thing sounds good on videos. I cannot imagine in real life.
In real life, F1 at that time was simply unbelievable.
@@herbertfischnaller4516
Yet being a great supporter of the frenchman I
am still convinced that he didn't feel comfortable on the wet...He told that he simply disliked the visibility issues coming from racing in the rain and as well he also couldn't forget the Pironi accident.
@@herbertfischnaller4516
Prost was capable of an outstanding self control
in negotiating the risk factor : max performance with as lower risk rate as possible. That's why he wasn't as brilliant when overtaking:just waiting and going for it at the right time without taking unnecessary risk.He never lost his cool.I would also like to remark that during his F1 carreer he most of seasons had to deal with tough and quick team mates: Arnoux Lauda Senna Mansell and K.Rosberg...Tough and hell fast guys.
I remember Monaco 82 very well. Murray Walker, "is that rain or just heavy precipitation?", and the next minute Prost stuffed it into the barrier.
@@herbertfischnaller4516
Can we please not forget 2:10 where his younger teammate Alesi in that shitbox went all gunblazing in there to get that dominating Williams in the first corner, and just.. JUSTTT missed out?
Unless I'm mistaken, Prost's car has one of the first LED screens at F1.
Panos Egglezos And paddle shifters
Panos Egglezos And the first ever 7 speed semi-automatic gearbox, with paddle shifters of course!
back then it was still a 6 speed manual. 7 speeds were not until much later on. as for LED screens. the McLaren mp4/4 had an LED screen.

This is what an F1 engine should sound like. It sounds excited, like it actually cares!
Le Professeur ....
0:28 Goosebumps 😍
The camera gets dirt all th time, but it had that auto-clean function.
The driver in the other hand has only 3 tears-off (I think), we see no hand move by Prost to clean his visor with the back of his glove.
Imagine how difficult is to drive a Formula 1 car, with all the speed and G force, also it's really hard to see... Racing drivers are true heroes!!!
Amazing footage!
He was the master of the long game
Sounds just like the rFactor 2 sound mod! 😱
Funny, I don't recall the first chicken going the opposite of the current l-r yet when we went through it here after the start I automatically looked/steered left. It's amazing what's still imprinted in memory after 30+ years.
I forgot Turn 1 was different back then and for a second I was like "Where is he going??" 😀 The kerbs were brutal too compared to now.
Senna had more raw talent. Prost had a ton of talent and the smarts to go with it. That's why Prost was better, Senna could never hold back and know when to back off and play it smart.
bullshit
Love it when they stayed on the track
Super vidéo.
Les caméras sans stabilisateur permettent de bien comprendre l'état réel de la piste sachant que les pilotes ont un confort minimal (surtout Prost).
The Ferrari 643 had a black apron around the rim of the cockpit, but was otherwise Ferrari Red.
2023 ün startları, viraj dönüşleri ve on board kameraları bu kadar etkileyici değil.
A typical masterpiece, those were that days!
0:32 start
what a times!!.when F1 was a great rivality
I agree with you ;) i m glad you have this opinion.
Interesting to compare monza then and now
I went to several races in the early 90's when everyone had switched to V10s except Ferrari. You could clearly hear when the Ferrari's were coming, the sound was so different from the V10s. Then the rules killed the V12 and everyone sounded the same 😞
Good old time
I wish the V12 will come back
Nothing compared to matra v12!!!!!
0:07 announcement by Mr. Jun Imamiya
"Prost 5th in qualifying,
At the start of the race, the 6th-placed Alesi gets ahead of him.
But Alesi misses the first corner on Lap 2
Prost quickly overtakes the restless Alesi."
Bring back ***** V12s
Thanks .
look who needs the halo...bring back the "aero" screen of the 90s lol
He wasn't known as "The Professor" for nothing. And, remember, the first Frenchman to win the World Title...
The double chicane at the beginning looks so weird if you grew up watching the modern layout with the single chicane lol
Alain 💪
It's me or the video is in 60fps?
Dat engine noise!
This is what F1 cars should sound like, not these vacuum cleaners of today.
Yes. And the tracks mite have bumpy but the races were much more exciting 👍
How did they stay on the tarmac and not go over the kerbs? These days they have flat kerbs that are a few metres wide extra flat run off after that, and then they STILL cannot stay in the limits!!
AMAZING SOUND
Prost was the professor we have to give that to him but my all time favourite is Senna. Looking back and forth is hard because cars are different but no one with his driving ability and car handling skills was,is and for the future i can say no one will be since internal combustion engine will go soon and thus we will not have a fair comparison.
And at 1:10 you see his career in the dust.
And they didn’t even have GoPro then. Absolute respect
Alesi always on the gravel.
Those machines were furiously angry...
indeed and the following year senna came out and said he ran into prost on purpose , the sewer caught up with him few years later at imola
how did prost like his car set up ?
He was kind on the equipment
Did this have paddle shifts?
Yes
They already had semi-automatic gearboxes in 1991?
Ferrari were the first
Great Champion leave to enjoy their success , comet flash by and vanish,
Oh back when things made sense got it got it
Allan tinha o respeito de Ayrton Senna.
Verdade. Quando Senna chegou à McLaren disse em entrevista a Galvão Bueno: “esse francês é fantástico”.
Not bad to be a truck :3
92 was the truck, 91 wasnt.
Prost did not run out the completion out as senna did to win the championship nor did he rely on teammate to block the field , senna was a dirty driver in his own way and the sewer caught up with him at Imola
Prost said it was he who told Mclaren to go for Senna. You seem very sure that Honda would have supplied Mclaren had they vetoed Senna.Honda insisted on Senna.Honda broke their association with Williams because they vetoed Nakijima. No Honda for Mclaren meant no dominant MP4/4 or MP4/5.What was Prost going to win the 5th and 6th titles in? As for double talking read what Nigel Mansell has to say about Prost in his autobiography.
Alain Prost.. il Carminati della formula 1.
Peak F1
Cool! : D
name a race and check it very carefully , my comment as teamate blocking the field was for shumaker I apologize for it .
However Senna did not want to race the day He died as he expressed countless second thought the day before after witness another driver death , He had lost confidence , in racing when you loose confidence you are gone .
Did'nt see any gearshift!?
Watch his right hand lol Ferrari afaik were the first to come up with the paddle shifters.
