Making a 3D end grain cutting board #3

This pattern shows a 3D optical illusion of the zigzag wall lit by the sun. I used hard maple, black walnut and black cherry for this project. You may use other contrasting wood species. You need three types of wood: light wood (maple, hornbeam, birch), dark wood (padauk, walnut, sapele, purpleheart) and middle tone wood (movingui, cherry, oak)

This guy's work is absolutely amazing. Not only are the designs incredible, but the sheer amount of patience one needs to follow through with it. It's definitely an art form.
meedily Thanks!
@@mtmwood what software do you use to design with
I didn't intend to watch an entire video of someone making a cutting board but I couldn't take my eyes off of it. Beautiful work.
Beautifully and artfully done as always. I can't imagine anyone receiving one of your cutting boards actually using it to cut on!
They are more like a work of art than a kitchen cutlery accessory.
It's pretty awesome when you can watch something form start to finish and it still comes across like magic...
WOW a true master craftsman. Amazing work brother !!!!!!
A beautiful example of the 'art of woodworking'. My mother hung her cutting board on the wall 40+years ago to show her appreciation. Its not just tools but thinking through the process and adapting to what a craftsman has available. This 64 year old shop teacher is down to a one-car garage which can't contain the thrill of making due with minimal equipment. From your lay up methods I'm heading toward the lathe :)
This display of workmanship and patience gives me the desire to get started in this set form, this will keep your mind busy.
Absolutely amazing. I can't imagine the concentration it would take to plan this and not flip the wrong board anywhere in this process. This is by far my favorite did of yours. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching! It is necessary to have good drawings to make this board.
14 dislikes? Seriously?? I think this craftsmanship is fantastic. what's not to like?
Thanks!
All that music and no talking is what is "wrong" with it.
Still that is no reason to unlike it.
Very nice project but I do not like this type of video.
So I will not click LIKE nor will I give it a thumbs down.
Again a very nice project and why not with that great shop.
Keep it up.
Rustaholic777 i don't think he can speak english well. he's from russia
Right. And I don't want to speak a lot (even in my Russian videos). You can find a lot of woodworking videos, where 90% - woodworking talks and 10% - woodworking itself.:)
mtmwood I do not mean speak a lot. Just saying what you are doing at each step. Much quieter music too. Again very nice shop you have. Greetings way over there from Michigan U.S.of A.
Insane. That has to be what you are!
Absolutely beautiful and mind boggling watching it come together. Thank you for sharing your craft and skill with us ordinary humans.
Shame on those 454 persons that gave this a thums down!! THIS IS JUST AWESOME!!!!!
This is some of the most astonishing work...easily the most beautiful cutting boards I've ever seen!
This is so amazing! I love the 3D project and the cleanliness of your work! Good to see there is artists like you nowadays! Greetings from Brazil.
- G R E A T design ! ! ! I would never remember the sequence. Thanx for sharing.
The amount of prep work is mind boggling. The finished article is worth it!
Absolutely incredible! Thanks for sharing that process. Love the tools!
You do incredible work.
So nice and so imaginative!
Could never be used as a cutting board !!
Love the clean up crew at the end. Now I see why your shop is so clean lol. They way you dipped the board in that pan was cool. That is how I was thinking of coating wood and I see it works better that way. Great work.
What an unbelievable process with an amazing outcome. Most amazing cutting board I’ve ever seen!!
This is not cutting board. It's piece of real art!
It is absolutely beyond me how anyone could give a thumbs down on this video.
Perhaps they are overwhelmed by the number of steps. I don't know.
This is mind blowing to me. That someone could design and execute this piece.
I am in awe of your work. And inspired!
Andrei, you do an excellent job as an instructor. Thank you for your videos and notes on the screen. I enjoy them .
Great cutting board, and great kids :) Thanks for sharing
I just repeat what already has been said, how thankful to see your talent so artfully expressed, and your willingness to share it with us.
I cannot solve a Rubik's cube so I don't have any idea how I would re-create one of your beautiful boards. Blessings to you and your family.
+tab lloyd I can solve the Rubic's cube.:) But the best result was about 2 minutes, far from the world record.:) Thanks!
+mtmwood i'm speechless. Amazingly talented
This is truly awesome. Inspiration, knowledge, planning, skill, execution. Fantastic.
Amazing designs. I never tire of watching your artistry!
Mind blowing!!!!! I can see that you love what you do. Keep up the good work.
You are truly an artist. Really like your design. It shows how dedicated and passionate you are.
Magnificent!! I'm going to watch, rewatch & gain enough confidence to try something on a simpler scale.
This is my favorite one. Great attention to detail.
WONDERFUL !! You are the master of cutting board.
I can just put it on the wall of my living room. So beautifully done.
awesome,im in lack of words to describe how beautiful and mesmerizing your work is, keep up the good work, wish I had such a workshop as yours, cheers!
One of the best ones you have made
Thank you!

I have watched a few of your vids and wow... it´s so beautiful. You are extremley talented. Is wish I could afford buying some of the cutting boards.
rexxo
Absolutely spectacular! What a great cutting board, I appreciate the talent and attention to detail to build a cutting board like that.
Huge respect fot your craftman skills! I just started my own DIY channel and these videos really motivate me! Thank you!
Very useful and great video! Thanks.
👍
This one has an amazing 3D effect.
Aquino Neto captain obvious 😂
The way you just draw the lines freehand on the wood so nonchalant has me mesmerised 😂 you have some serious skill, I adore this piece
I could use a coffee table in this design. It's beautiful, keep on doing what you do it's amazing.
Excellent video and a beautiful board. Those two employees are taking you for a ride. I'd sack them pronto. they are enjoying themselves far too much and if they were supposed to be clearing up, they were rubbish. ... But very cute. God bless you all.
I have to say that your boards are amazing, but the best part of your videos is the twins... they are awesome. Congratulations.
That's the most beautiful cutting board I have ever seen!
This is beautiful. Man, I wish I had a workshop...
You don't need a huge amount of space, or a huge investment to get into this. This guy has a fairly high-end, expensive shop; he's clearly invested a fair sum into it. You don't need a shop of this caliber or size to make projects like this.
All you really need for projects like this are a Radial Arm Saw [$150 used] (with saw blade [$30], radial planer [$30], and edging router bit [$30]) an Orbital Sander + paper [$30 used], 2 long clamps [$20ea] and 6 F-Clamps [$10ea].
If you shop smart and buy used, you can get into this for just a few hundred bucks.
+Jex134 What stops many of us is space to put all that and use it. Everywhere I've lived in the last 10 years, a place to put the tools where I can use them when I'm not at my regular job would cost more than (new) tools themselves would be to buy outright, per month. $400 or even $1000 in tools once, $800+ for an industrial zoned workshop every month (more like $1500+ if it's within half an hour travel of my apartment).
+Jex134 id like to see ya make a video making this with the tools ya list.
Tom Mullen
If I had the materials to, I could - all I have is pallet wood though, which is mostly spruce and oak. I'd need to buy some actual decent material for this affect.
+Tom Mullen No shit!! besides tools that are on your list. YOU also got to have that one stuff. you know? Oh that's right TALENT!!!!!!
that and the ability to see 15 moves ahead. but your expert opinion is so valuable! I'm going to build 5 tonight.
My head just exploded.
Magic.
Amazing! Was a joy to watch, thanks for posting.
You are truly amazing and I appreciate you sharing very much - very motivating to understand how. Thank you!

+mtmwood thanks
Keep up the good work.... spread the love of woodworking!!
ully done as always. I can't imagine anyone receiving one of your cutting boards actually using it to cut on!
They are more like a work of art than a kitchen cute
Damn, that was a lot of work on that board, but what a great result.
I've seen a ton of cutting board videos. Yours tops them all! Beautiful work and I echo the comments of others. No way would I cut anything on that beautiful butcher block. Amazing work my friend.
That's seriously a fantastic board, thanks for the vid, great to see the full process.
Great project.... and the workshop....
Thanks!
what sorcery is this? this dude a straight up woodwork wizard
You are definitely a master craftsman! Thanks for sharing the process.
I would not let a knife come near it. Your craftsmanship is exceptional. A true work of art.
I respect you man!
sir you are an artist and one day i will buy some of them fancy boards from you
Well Done
Thanks! You can make them yourself.
Well i have 0 tools so would be cheaper to get from you
Right.:)
A beautiful and interesting thing. Built to last a lifetime !
Your cutting boards are amazing! Thanks for sharing.
Hello I have to tell you I made a few of these cutting boards as gifts and the reaction is overwhelming so I want to thank you for a great design and idea. I am building an addition where I work and the neighbor has let me park in her driveway so I made her one to say thank you and she loved it. I wish you all the best and good fortune , oh just so you know the twins will always pull you back to earth, notice how they look at each other and fly out of the room. Vodka will help.
Thanks for watching!
Great video! And, WOW, that's one awesome board! I love it. I'm also impressed with your amazing, well-outfitted shop; and the clean-up crew at the end. Bravo. Subscribed!
Thanks for watching and subscribing!
mtmwood I had to look at it several times to figure out if it was flat or not. Lol. Great work!
Shadetree Woodworking Me too! It's very convincing.
Wait for 3D board #4 in a week. It will be "convex".:)
Where artistry meets woodworking. Amazing, watching you work. Thanks.
These are works of art! I can't imagine cutting anything on them.
No one cares.
Who the hell can actually cut anything on this beautiful piece of work? :)
It is for cutting food, even the glue used is specific to cut food on it.
Masterpiece! Absolute stunning! 😁
The video gets full marks. The sequencing and planning was fabulous, it made it seem like I could do that, I know how to rip and glue and clamp. The board was pristine yet the two children laughing at the end were just filled with kiss and hug marks..! This was the best educational video I have seen it made the viewer feel confident and secure. The best was the end, the joy of these huggable boys. A spiritual uplift. The magic of Grace is it works over and over, melded to the stream of time its gifts remain powerful forever. You must be doing something right!
Thanks!

Love this video. Nice to see a shop that might have enough clamps. ;^)
Great work. no wonder those cutting boards cost a fortune
You're my new hero! That looks amazing!
Dinner burned whilst I was watching this but it was worth it.Not because they can now have pizza for dinner, but because I saw a work of art created. Now I know why these cost big bucks. I'm in Sydney Australia, if you ever do this for a living i'll take one off your hands. :-)
Cutting board you kidding me? No way i'd let knives touch something so pretty. Put it in the living room, and place some glasses and a bottle of single malt on top of it.
Thanks!
Absolutely beautiful. Does the cutting ruin the wood? What protects it?
it is oiled so that it can be used for cutting on. you would get cut marks in it if you cut on it.
A cutting board you look at and touch every day, though. I wouldn't want all my beautiful things pushed away on display.
Not to mention it's wood :-/. Cut on it for a couple yrs, plane it down a 1/16th (any wood shop, would do this for a nominal fee), sand it with some 320, and it looks like new. You could do that several times over the course of the boards life.
I'm also pretty sure, the maker would be more than willing to refinish it, if you purchased it from him.
It's beautiful, but made to be used.
That is awesome, definitely inspiring! You make it look so easy too!
That is sooo bad ass..!! I’m definitely going to make that my next project. Just got my shop set up and I’m anxious to create one of these works of art...
Very cool 😎..!!!

no problem..
You are truly an artist and wood is your medium. Amazing and beautiful!
Wow! What a masterpiece! Too nice to cut on that's for sure.
hypnotically beautiful!!!!!!!!!!
Makes me cringe when I'm out and hear someone say "500 dollars for that?!" when looking at a something hand-crafted. Most people would have no idea the amount of work that goes into things like this. The time and effort that go into things like this are what makes them valuable.
Couldn't agree more. How can you possibly charge enough to get paid properly for this work.
I would make something like this for myself. I would never, however, pay $500 for a cutting board. I don't care how much work went into it, at the end of the day it's a cutting board.
If we were talking about fine furniture or something along those lines I'm right there with you.
You sir are the definition of a master craftsman! God bless you and your family. What dedication!
+Debra Richards Thanks!
