I'm in awe over your precise domino line-ups. When attaching the two main section together, getting 24-domino's to line-up and assemble after being glued, the first time, is simply amazing!
Incredible Work. About 35 yrs ago, my Father built 2 sets of triple Bunk Beds. They were friggn Awesome and we still have them today. There are 6 Boys and 1 girl in my Family. Both beds were in 1 room in a row home in Philadelphia and my Spoiled Ass sister had her own room. The good ole days.
A nice well thought out project. I had built bunks for our camp about a year ago and the bottom slats I just laid in so that we could pull them out to clean under the mattress. Similar construction to what you have just fancy enough for a camp though.
With kids being kids, there will be tussles in those beds. It was hard to tell but the inside edges of the bed frames appear to be pretty sharp. Seems like a major rounding of those edges would pretty much 'kid-proof' them. As a former child bunk bedder along with today's technology I would have made provisions for the installation of low voltage led lighting strips with a dimmer switch for each bed.
Ya there is a lot of good work in that area. I live in New Palestine but most of my jobs are with 45min or less. And I mainly remodel stairs. But I will do some built in stuff from time to time.
Nice project and great craftsmanship ... did you design it too?. How would you price something like this? Would it be a time and materials? or a lump sum? I know those are some personal questions but for those starting out its always good to hear from someone as accomplished as you. Have you ever thought of starting an "online school" where your might teach some courses on the above mentioned topics. I think you would be surprised how many students you might get. That's a smart looking bunk bed build. never seen the stairs assembled like that before. Was that your design or the clients? Lots of thought gone into the creation of that piece of work

@@InsiderCarpentry Thanks. That's not something I've seen in the box stores or lumber yards here in MD. Looks like it would be super stable compared to the usual flat-sawn poplar.
Just a question but wondering why you didn’t use some kind of a bolt together knock down fastener? People anymore are not happy with anything long term and would hate to see such fine work trashed by someone deciding they wanted a change later on in life. Great 👍 work excellent craftsmanship.
would be nice to have hidden drawers under each step. or as we did, a roll out blanket/ toy box concealed at the end under the stairs (also makes a great fort if the box can roll right out)
Seems like a waste of space under the stairs. Also, the heavy material would be very good for kids weighing 350 lbs. each. Kind of like overkill on the dimensions of the materials/
Beautiful work man. Those t-brace pieces add a ton of strength to those slats. My only worry is the non-braced slats, especially since this is finger joint lumber. Do you feel the bed be strong enough if a 200lb dad jumps in there to play with the kids?

The homeowners missed an opportunity to put some electrical in, would be nice to have some light for those dark bedside table/shelves or at least an outlet.
Man i love the way u do thing and explain clearly without all the babble. i watched this a while back to get some sound advice for my first queen size bunk set, that that now needs to mach distressed barn beam we i did for ceilings ..well our work shop burnt down a few weeks ago total loss, so Iv been trying to do production in the storage shop with no festools, track/ stopsaw ect. just seeing good clamps makes me envious. Im praying the Domino arrives before i start that job. Do U think a similar build would be stable enough without fastening to the wall and ceiling? Was thinking maybe adding some extra bracing under the stairs to stiffen up it up? Iv never used the Domino on anything this big to know how they hold up to large loads. Any advice would help. Cheers
Little bit of a random question... do you only use your dewalt lights? I like to wire temporary fixtures into the ceiling boxes when I can so the lighting is closer to what it will be when the house is finished. I still use a couple work lights in darker areas but I've had good success with temp. fixtures

Exact opposite. The whole idea of custom built-ins is that they don't look like a cheap piece of ikea that you can take with you. The value perception is the exact opposite.

It was pucker factor level 10. I sanded the end of some of them to taper them so they would find their alignment easier.

Yes. The weight will disperse just fine.

FJ poplar and polar plywood.

I just use cordless lights for the most part. Half the time I’m just working in the dark with a head lamp.

No need to waste money putting drawers where they aren’t needed. That would have been a pain. Large expense for a small amount of storage.

I honestly can’t remember the size numbers well enough to tell you. They were medium size. Not the bigger ones but not the smallest either.
