This song reminds me of Sandy's song 'Fotheringay', almost the same chord sequence. So lovely to see the great Phil Lynott paying tribute to her. It is beautiful.
wow i stumbled on this, one of my favourite rock singers singing about one of my favourite folk singers and the band are good too. RIP Phil and Sandy - both of you gone well before your time.
Back in 1985 at Middlesbrough town hall seen phil lynotts grand slam phil came on stage and said hello Glasgow then he changed it to Middlesbrough to see my hero falling apart in front of me was sad to me he was the best front man and extremely talented top notch song writer i wished bob geldof and midge ure put thin Lizzy on live aid would have given queen a run for their money lizzy and queen toured together in 1977 in the usa apparently phil was back stage at live aid shame only 36 years old lemmy said all the friends he had lost over the years Phil is the only one he still missed 🙏🙏🙏
In my opinion this is the direction Phil should have went for. Witch season productions Joe Boyd John Wood and Richard Thompson and Co. His association with Mark Knopfler was very healthy but all the other connections were rough. His heart and soul was calling him but he didn't answer... We miss Philo greatly...Sandy as well...
Irritated that they don't say more about Sandy. To me, she was the best singer of the 20th century and an incredible songwriter. Hard to fathom that most people never heard of her.
Alexandra, Elaine, McClean, Lucas Denny, 'The Lady' Sandy Denny 6/1/47 - 21/4/78 was, is and forever will remain the greatest female vocalist of all time, ❤❤❤
@@Toyotaamazon80series That's a pretty high bar, not least since we can't see the future. But she's simply unique. She is, and I guess, always will be my absolute favourite. I wonder how Georgia Lucas today feels about her mother. She lost both parents early on and except from once accepting a BBC award on Sandy's behalf, together with Chris Thompson, I think she never appeared in public. Must be super tough to be the daughter of a legend of whom you have no living memory and who will never answer the question "why did you abandon me so early?"
@@jochannan7379 Her voice was on another planet it was so good. Sandy was also a great guitarist and brilliant pianist. To top it all off her songwriting was superb. She was gifted, quite simply she was a genius. I only came across her two Years ago on UA-cam by accident. Most people have never heard of her which to my mind is the real tragedy. I'll never forget the first time I heard her singing 'Green grow the Laurels' It was like I had an out of body experience. Suffice to say that I'm obsessed and bewitched by her, ❤
I'm a Dubliner and never knew of this I think.......I once went to Howth - to meet a band: Above the Thunderclouds. They were good.....at the front of the record collection in the singer's house I guess, was Closer, by Joy Division. Anyway I persuaded ATT , and The Fountainhead , to play at a benefit for a pretty cool place called The Youth Expression Centre in Temple Bar I guess. It's crazy how long it can take to catch up with stuff. It's already 22 years or so since I heard Fairport's take of Richard & Mimi Farina's 'Quiet joys of Brotherhood'. Seriously mindblowing that one.......was tonight really the first time I got to hear the original? Crazy.......
This performance is about a year before the Sandy Denny box set came out. Sad that Phil would die around the same time. More people need to know his and Sandy's music.
What a heartfelt and moving tribute for Sandy by Phil Lynott. I am not really familiar with Phil and came upon this when looking up some songs by Sandy. Now reading some posts here, that Phil is no longer with us. When did he pass and what cause?
Some one took Philip's song book out of his dresser/safe after he passed. taking song ideas from the early 70s incomplete songs poems, complete songs and ideas Philip always wrote everything down in his journal he kept over the years most these demos were working ideas done in his home studio rip Philip. Most of them anyway.
Don't suppose you have the full show Tony? I believe snookers Alex Higgins, who a good friend of Phil's, also appeared on the same show and I'd love to see his appearance as well.
Yes, he had always had asthma but the heavy stuff was definitely taking its toll on Philo at this point. It’s a damn shame this world lost him!! There was no one like him and never will be!!
Phil Lynott deserve more recognition than what is given ,he was a rare breed an artist by nature.
He sure was a rare breed an artist by nature 😍
The King of Ireland.
This is quite touching. Phil Lynott comes across as really nice and humble. A tribute from one legendary singer to another.
Apparently this guy was one of the sweetest people you could meet
@Hugh Jarse that's very cool
Sandy Denny is only person to sing on a Led Zeppelin song who wasn't in the band, Battle of Evermore.
Beautiful Phil Lynott, I love his melancholy understated vocal
This song reminds me of Sandy's song 'Fotheringay', almost the same chord sequence. So lovely to see the great Phil Lynott paying tribute to her. It is beautiful.
Beautiful. Phil a class act til the end
Nice song, great backing from this band, and Phil doing it justice, Sandy Denny, taken from us far too young, as was Phil, thanks for posting Tony.

What an amazing group of musicians backing Phil. Very moving.
I absolutely Love Phil Lynotts voice when he speaks ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤as well as when he sings.
Yes, there is more to life than this, as you two will undoubtedly know by now, Phil & Sandy, bless you both...
And Gay actually, who was such a true gentleman...
A nice tribute to the legendary Sandy. Phil died a bit over a year after this.
Beautiful song and performance 💚🤎❤🤍💛🧡💜💙🖤💗💗💗💗
Beautiful ! And Phil we miss you too.
This was a special treat for me, I've been a fan of both Phil and Sandy for decades.
How cool is this? Phil did all right and that band sounded just lovely!
phil is bigger than life isn't he?

What a find!
Great tribute to a legend from another.👍😀❤️
🔝😍😍This is great... never heard this before.... 💯🎵
R.ip Phil and Sandy Denny!
Beautiful song! Phil is the legend!
Would have loved to had a few beers with Phillip and Paul McGrath. Imagine that!!
All my love to lrland❤

If he'd lived longer and matured he probably would have
The charity concert that they bummed him off from killed him literally.
@@Strimbles yes...maturity...using that wonderful gift as an adult.
This is quite a sad song, with such a lovely melancholic melody, it chokes me up.
This is just beautiful.
Lynott is so adorable. Great song. 👌💕

You have a good point...
She was extraordinaire...
It's a Irish thing, we don't tend to be over the top but if we say someone is really good we mean it and if Philo said it we took notice.
RIP Phil. Thinking of you today and missing you always

And sadly he himself died just two years after that. A few years older than Sandy but still, just 37.
RIP. Sad.
Phil was 36 at the time of his death.
After the feed the world concert at Wembley that they didn't let him on killed him.
No actually he died just over 12 month's later in Jan 86..this is December 84..
Can hear from his breathing that he's not doing good, lifestyle catching up with him here. What a man The Rocker
All I can say is... WOW
Good one for getting involved phil💪🏻
Damn never show him so calm relaxed. But the outfit expresses his true kind. Ready to rock big time. What a great artist he was
Stunning
Me encanta esta canción irlandesa 🎵

Great… he coulda done a folk album
il était excellent dans tout les genres de musique.....
Great
My favorite"folk" song is HONESTY IS NO EXCUSE.
He could had been anything really, I think Gay Byrne did like talking with Phil
Sandy Denny's Where Has All The Time Gone will play at my cremation.
Bel hommage a une grande chanteuse ❤

He passed in 1986 due to pneumonia.

Poor Phil, so out of breath
Yes, he had always had asthma but the heavy stuff was definitely taking its toll on Philo at this point. It’s a damn shame this world lost him!! There was no one like him and never will be!!
As much as I love Phil Lynott - this song - or at least the lyrics were terribly cliché 😕
Gay Byrne mispronounces his surname, but he’s too polite to correct him.
HEY! I played recorder in elementary school! Maybe I can be a folk star too!!!!
Awkward, as always, presence of Gay Bryne
john m is that cos he lived by the sea he changed his name to Gay Byrne.
Oh, she fell did she? How do you know?
That's a good question
She said it herself when she spoke on the phone to friends,as i recall she died shortly after from brain injury 😢
He seemed out of breath here.
I didn't like Gaybo🤘
Great
