I never thought about using the old, dead grasses for nesting. I think I will try that out. Last spring, I had a container with the annual dichondra silver falls, and a robin used it all up for a nest! It was fun watching it go back and forth, carrying the long strands up to the nest.
Hi! I found your video since I have a northwest facing border and am wondering if I have enough sun to plant switchgrass. In the middle of summer it gets a decent amount of direct sun from 2:00-7:00 PM or so. It looks like you have yours against a wall with plants in front of it and it's doing okay? Do you think part sun will work or should I not bother?

Hi. Thanks for the comment. I love Robbins too...
Thank you for your wonderful videos, I'm really enjoying starting up my native gardens!
Thanks for the comment and good luck gardening!
Love them ❤
Grasses are often neglected in butterfly gardens and so are trees.
That's very true. Thanks for the comment 😊

Hi. Thanks for the comment. I think it should be fine with 5 hours of Sun.
Mostly interesting......but, the picture shows about 5 different plants. Why not show pictures of ONLY switchgrass?
