My Dad purchased a 21A in 1985 and I used it during highschool as a trapping dispatch gun. Living in a very rural area, this little pistol got constant use including a lot of plinking. No idea how many times it has been fired, but keeping the chamber and magazine clean and slide lubed ensured decent reliability. That's true of most pistols in general. The 21A is a great little pistol.
I bought one of those in .25 ACP for my mom about thirty years ago. After my mom passed, I got it back and passed it on to my oldest daughter, who lives alone in a big city. She was test firing it in the back yard when the barrel opening mechanism broke. I then found out that Beretta no longer supports the pistol, as it hasn’t been made in decades. Fortunately, I found a place in the Midwest who could work on it and had the spare parts. They told me that the pistols are not meant to be shot much and have a relatively short lifespan. Their advice was that these gun should be carried but not shot much.
I’ve had several of these Beretta mouse guns, sold them and regretted it. Now I’m in my retirement years I have bought several of these Beretta pocket pistols again. Yes they are very well built and designed well. High priced but to me worth it. The Beretta 950 BS Minx in 22 short with the long barrel is one of my favorites.
We're from the Starbase area but we were in San Antonio selling some pups a couple of years ago and I came across one of these on TGT. We drove out there and took it off the sellers hands. Mine prefers the hotter loads but she's a blast to shoot. I usually open up a range day with her for fun. 🍻
While the 22 Bobcat is a well made pistol, it’s better for plinking than for a carry gun. I personally own a 3032 Tomcat in .32ACP and it’s a big step up. Very reliable and the magazines feed flawlessly. For the little price difference I’d go with the .32
I have had a 21a for more than 30 years, and have had no significant problems. However, there are a few critical factors that will affect function. First, the chamber will accumulate burnt powder/carbon that can impair feeding; I have found that a quick pass with a nylon brush after about 40 - 50 rounds prevents this. Second, the 21a may have ammunition brand preferences; mine functions best with the CCI or most target-level ammo (Eley, Lapua, etc.). It does not "like" Rem. or Win. bulk ammo. Finally, it is hard to judge reliability until you've fired 200-300 rounds in most semiauto's. You may want to do some more extensive testing with different ammo before considering modifying any magazines. This pistol is very good at what it was designed for.
25:19 the part we all have been waiting for how fast can you actually jam a magazine in it? I have one myself and it one of my favorite guns of all time. When the magazines are dirty or have oil from the factory thats when problems happen in my experience.
I have a thing for pocket guns. I am not allowed such here in the UK. But I do find them interesting for some reason. I always find it interesting that when this type is reviewed the shooting is always over a good few yards (for a tiny round) with carefully aimed shots. It does prove the accuracy of the piece. But surely IRL if you used one it would be a one handed mag dump at say waist height? These are 'get off me guns' after all.
Have figured out the magazine issues? Mine shot flawless. I sent it to Beretta to inspect the ruff cut barrel face. They didn’t do anything supposedly and sent it back as is. It now won’t pick up ammo from my 3 factory mags. It seems to be tipping the ammo down after the 4th or 5 th round in all 3 mags.
@@thetexasgunvault it’s fixed! I disassembled all three magazines, lightly sanded the plastic followers, and sprayed them with dry graphite lube. Cleaned the inside of my magazines with a brass brush and oil was well. I removed the slide, cleaned , and added EWL lube. Tried a magazine full of stingers, 333’s, auto match, Winchester high velocity, and cci standard velocity in each magazine today. Total of a 120 rounds and zero malfunctions.
My fear would be accidentally popping the barrel up while needing to shoot it in a high stress situation. I haven't shot one yet and I am also not Joe Biden with arthritis. I like Beretta and it pretty, but I still don't see it's point especially with what ruger offers. Caliber is another issue. Unless you are doing the assassin thing, I'd expect it to be offered in 22mag or 380acp. This is just a random dude's opinion on the internet. I do however appreciate your well made and informative video.
I would have to pass. There are better pocket pistols than this. I know its not a pocket pistol but my $177 plastic kel tec P17 is more reliable than the bob cat at close to 1/3 the cost.

Yes it is and I am glad to hear it has been such a great pistol for your family.

I am glad you got your pistol fixed. However, I have heard these are very durable.

They really are true hidden gems in the firearms world.
I put +10% springs in my mags and use CCI stingers for reliable operation.
That sounds like a great upgrade.

That is awesome! I am glad you picked up one for a good deal!

I have a video coming out later on the 3032.
My only complaint about the 21A is the lack of an extractor. Other than that, it's a good, small pistol, easily concealed and easy to operate.
I can see that, but it seem to not need one though.

Thank you for the information and the comment. I think your thoughts are spot on.

LOL, I am glad I did not disappoint.

You are absolutely right! These are so close up situations.
@@thetexasgunvault Not that I advocate rocking up to the range and casually mag dumping after a quick draw.
A trinium front post would be perfect on this to enhance visibility for those with bad eyes- which I suspect is common for those who carry it
I completely agree. That would be a good upgrade on this model.

Oh no! I am so sorry to hear that!

@@tripplebeards3427 That oil in the magazines will collect all kinds of grit. The dry graphite lube you mentioned will work better, I think
Yep nothing sticks to it I sprayed some on H&R trigger and it dropped it down to under a pound the stuff is almost too good to be true
Use your left thumb to release the mag.
I agree that I could. It is just not as natural to do.
If it’s brand new it needs a break in period (mine did).
I hear some do.

I could see that being a concern. I think you just have to spend some time with it. It is different for sure and your thoughts are valid.

I can totally see that perspective. I just feel the build of this one is better than most of the others.
