I really enjoyed this episode and totally understand the need to have a clear out and reset. Hope the ban helps and gives you space! Also absolutely in love with those necklaces, how kind! 😊

Well that worked well!! My patterns are in magazine files colour coded by garment type and listed on an excel spreadsheet. I can locate each pattern.....( mostly works really well)
Scraps ordered by pockets sized or smaller. Smaller ones currently saved for draught excluder sewing !!😂 Have vague plans to make another pouf -the first is 5 years old and needs a bit of love! Thanks for sharing. Fascinating how we all develop different systems and flows for tasks !

Scraps just grow and grow and GROW. I recently started going through them (I had them in bags according to color) and cutting them into hexagons for English paper piecing, so yet another project but at least I can feel good about using my scraps up or at least making a dent in them .
For pattern organization I have a few Rubbermaid tubs with lids and I organize according to garment type and another tub for vintage.I only have a few pdf patterns so those I printed out and put in plastic bags and into my Rubbermaids, again, according to garment type.
It really is necessary to take a time out and get your space back. I know I can't create in a messy space, it really messes with my mind

Hi Sam. Ah, there's nothing like a good clean-up after a rush of sewing! I'm glad you have room to move and are refreshed after your sewing ban. I was smiling to myself about the big Mt. Scrapmore pile. I have one too squirreled away in various places. It's wonderful your friend is picking up fabric bits to deliver to where they will be used.
I'm currently working on a summer top that is a yellow print with subtle dots. I dug through my stash for a trim and found an unopened package of very narrow yellow rickrack from my mom's stash (it must be 60 or 70 years old). The paper wrapper inside said if you have a child who sews, send 15 cents for postage and handling (obviously before lots of inflation in postage rates) and Wrights would send you a whole bag of trim off cuts for use in making doll clothes. I thought that way-back way of trying to link scraps to users was sweet.
As to pattern storage, UGH. I have one box of paper patterns and a cubby hole with my few rolled-up and significantly modified TNT patterns. If I try a pattern that is hopeless, I usually give it away, or if it was a pdf, I recycle the pieces.
I'm looking forward to the Rainy Girl Summer vlog. There might be some Foggy Day patterns in there too! Wishing you enjoyable sewing the weather is sunny or rainy, Antonia

Totally identify with this vlog Sam. When the sewjo is humming, the sewing room takes a bashing! I’ve also started a clear up of pattern pieces that didn’t find their own way back to their allotted envelopes 🤷‍♀️ scraps and remnants building here, there and everywhere. The worst bit for me is thread tails , I think I’m developing an allergy to them little tormentors. No matter how diligently I try to cut them as I go and collect them in my little pot, they still get everywhere 😲😮😵‍💫 But that’s all forgotten after a good clear up and the sewjo starts humming again 😍🥰

Always a joy to watch you. I have to keep everything in place in my sewing space, otherwise I wouldn't get to my machine!!!! Scraps I hid under the table so I can't see them. Happy sewing

So inspired by your sort out…..think I’ll have to do some sorting as I look around my sewing room and don’t know where to start. Well done and happy sewing!

I like to call this a re-set day. I schedule it when my space gets out of control.

Have you thought about making the modern sewing company poufe pattern you can stuff it with unwanted scraps 😮 your sewing room looks great

I don’t feel bad now knowing that I am not the only one with a massive pile of scraps. Mine started in a box and has grown to a number of boxes and now in the corner 😅. I have been conscious of it and trying to not have as much waste & what to do with it all. One of my recent ideas is to wrap coat hangers with the scraps. I buy velvet coat hangers as my garments don’t fall off them & I have lots of hangers. I also was inspired by your quilted jackets . Anyway you made me laugh out loud when you mentioned your other half describing land mines around your house. Another great video 😂

I have been diligently saving all my scraps, no matter how small, because I didn't want to throw anything away, and being fairly new to sewing, I didn't know what will catch my interest along the way.
Now, I have a particular set of scraps I want to turn into a patchwork bucket hat. And the Closet Core pouf is a future goal for all the scraps that are too small, fabrics I've lost interest in, etc. Maybe something else will catch my eye that needs stuffing as well. And I still have those cards you demonstrated in the back of my mind, too. 😊

It always feels great when you have a sort out doesn’t it, I get to the point where I can’t sew anymore until I tidy up. I’ve got the Westcliff dress pattern, Becs said I need to just make it I’ll love it, so I think that’s what I’ll be doing. Look forward to seeing your trouser vlog and which patterns you like and dislike. Keep my patterns tidy but haven’t really worked out a fixed plan yet, other than I’ve got too many 🤦‍♀️😂

I have put all my patterns on Stash hub and instead of sorting by company or garment I keep them in numbered magazine files, a quick search by name tells me where to find them. Prior to this I wasted so much time looking through basket after basket

I relate to this! I cleaned my room for several days before starting again. Those scrapes are about to get on my last nerve though😕 I have a huge basket that has a lid and it is stuffed! What do you do with scrapes? Do you keep only sizable pieces or keep it all?

I do believe the Friday Pattern Company merged with Closet Core Patterns, so that may be why there are lags in reprinting, resizing, re releasing PDF patterns?

I think that was Deer and Doe with Closet Core

Doesn't it feel good having everything organized and cleaned again? I don't do it enough 😂 but I should.
I put my patterns in Stash hub. It has a field for location, so that's where I write down in which box a pattern is. For me that works.

Sam, your dedication to clearing out your spaces is inspiring. Scraps…they’re a mounting problem for me. 🥹 I use scraps for quilting, but it’s become overwhelming. I intend to make a Closet Core Pouf and using scraps to fill it. Have I done it yet? Shamefully, no. I am sorting my patterns by clothing type and entering them on Stash Hub. Right now they’re in boxes on the floor. When I get “proper” containers and find a space for them I’ll be able to enter in to Stash Hub the location of each pattern if I want. Ha! Sounds like a sewing ban for me is what I need. 😘
