Right on. Promised Land is great. Definitely has its share of underrated songs like Disconnected and Damaged. Rage is a good choice. Many great songs on it.
Your ranking is fair. I would probably switch Empire and Rage but there are times I would consider them equal. Like you, I believe that PL is underrated. I hope QR will do some moody, prog-like songs reminisicent of PL again along with the metal bangers. QR is capable of great range. I am strong on The Verdict too. So glad you mentioned "Bent". That may be the best Todd led song thus far. I went crazy when i hear them perform it live!

I've seen Queensrÿche 3 times so far 2 with Tate and 1 with La Torre in vocals. Man this band has truly returned to their roots after 10 years with La Torre in the lead. All subsequent albums after Tate's departure are getting better and better after time and some songs requests the listener's attention in order to comprehend them. Take for example Nocturnal Light, Lost in Sorrow, Forest, Bulletproof, Just Us, Light Years and you will hear classic Queensrÿche compositions as they were made for Rage for Order or Empire. As for Tate you should give a listen to Sweet Oblivion , an Italian project made specifically for Tate's vocal range, which reminds a bit of the late Tony Mills from TNT, Siam - The Language of Menace, a melodic and hard rockish album with a concept similar to Operation Mindcrime. A little insight on the mid career SUCK factor of Queensryche. Prior to the release of the Tribe album Tate had released a solo album, which was pretty diverse and that new found independence seemed to have had an effect on Tate, so much so that Michael Wilton in an interview stated that Tate was trying to force the bands musical direction toward a light AOR style, similar to his recent solo album. Histrionically, Chris, Michael and whoever else would compose ideas and present them to Tate. He would "vibe" with the music and from there it would become a song. Stylistically, Wilton and the rest of the band were still devoted to the classic QR style, whereas Tate found it dull and constricting. Now for Tribe, DeGarmo WAS in fact planning a return to the band, however Tate had in Chris's absence, sort of assumed the de-facto "leadership" role in the band, and along with his wife who had become the manager, or co-manager, really were running the ship, and were not interested in DeGarmo returning, with the possibility of conceding any power or decision making to him. The original members had essentially been reduced to Tate's sidemen, and collectively decided to simply placate Tate, who around this time had begun threatening the members, all of whom had families, mortgages and were financially dependent on the bands continuation, that he would quit the band if they didn't submit to his demands. Tate's wife was the one who came up with the idea of a sequel to Mindcrime, because in her opinion, the band was running out of lucrative financial avenues from which to generate income. AS far as OM II, not only did Tate reject most of the bands songwriting contributions, but encouraged outside musicians to play their parts to varying degrees. The majority of the album was written by the hired guitarist, Mike Stone and the album's producer, Jason Slater, also an accomplished musician himself. I'm not going to go into every single detail, but Queensryche had become the exclusive creative outlet for Tate's ideas, and a way for the Tate's financially to support their lifestyle. He had multiple family member's on the QR payroll, and at one time had attempted to have Michael Wilton fired from the band. All of the albums from OM II through Dedicated to Chaos are primarily Tate solo albums with varying degrees of input from the actual members of Queensryche. Also, the Frequency Unknown album is NOT a Queensryche album. After Wilton, Jackson and Rockenfield voted unanimously in 2012 to fire Tate from the band, Tate quickly attempted to commandeer the band's name, and rushed to record yet ANOTHER solo album and call it Queensryche in the hopes to attain sole ownership of the Queensryche brand during the upcoming legal proceedings.
Absolutely hated his first Solo album. Didn't really like the 2nd one either. I could hear the distinct change in his voice which I just didn't like and I thought the songs were horrible. No wonder subsequent QR albums sounded like they did then based off of what you said here.
The problem I had was the change of Geoff Tate's voice. Once Chris left the song writing went downhill as did Geoff's voice. I thought Geoff's voice was top notch during Empire and subsequent albums Promised Land and Hear in the Now Frontier, but then it just changed. Not really sure exactly when, could have been a little later but once you got into future albums and even albums he did on his own (Operation: Mindcrime) once he was let go his voice just killed it for me. I always had issue with Kelly Gray being added to the group as I thought the playing just became very rigid. The albums then just didn't flow. I think with Todd LaTorre the band has found their groove again. I believe that Geoff Tate has found his niche though singing with Sweet Oblivion. The 2 albums (3rd album due in 2024) that he has done with them the music has been made to suit Geoff's voice these days which is a good thing.

I've always preferred Livecrime to the studio version. I know it was an intentional sound design thematically, but I just can't listen to it no matter how much I adore the material. The live album definitely saved it for me. Plus, I love the Wayne Isham direction of the film. Very similar to what he did with Delicate Sound of Thunder.
Q2K is plain awful; third rate grunge. Complete waste of a cool album name and cover art. This is where I got off the fan wagon; didn't get back on it until La Torre came onboard.

I think Queensryche has only really had a few good albums. Probably should’ve retired after Now Frontier. Everything that came after has honestly, dropped off for me. Operation Mindcrime is definitely their best. Warning would probably be number two for me.

Ah ok. Q2K has a few songs i think are ok but yeah it’s a weak album. Todd really helped get the band get back on track for sure.
