The equal length midpipe from @TheActiveAutowerke really is a gorgeous piece of automotive engineering! When I was given a chance to install one into my car, I leapt at the opportunity even though I already had the excellent single channel installed. BOTH options are very good, but provide different sound characteristics for sure.
I wanted to share the full install DIY so you can easily do this yourself!
Make sure to check out my full sound comparison video linked below, to hear all of the various differences!

Another great video. Thanks for splicing both videos too instead of just saying, just check the other video out. I would love to do this on my also BSM m2c next summer (I will probably still figure out how to somewhat mess it up lol).
I am sure you will do great!
If you don't have the "extra set of hands" how tough is it to get the full exhaust off? From there what about getting the backbox back up and installed? Is it doable to get a jack with a decent size jackpad under it and get it close enough in position to get the bracket nuts started?
So its definitely possible to do by yourself, as most of the time I am doing the work alone. Its just heavy, if pulling the whole exhaust line but absolutely possible. Back boxes by themselves tend not to be that heavy, and installed quite a few by myself. Bracing it is a good idea as well.
@@BMWDIYGuy thanks much!
Has anyone tried catless with aa non res equal length? Mine is sounding very broken, hoping it’s just touching a bolt or something. On full throttle it sounds great but anything less no good
Look for my full sound comparison video as I go through all the combinations
@@BMWDIYGuy I think have seen them all but can’t see video for equal length - non res mid - with catless downpipes anywhere online. Wanted to compare the sound with mine to see if mine is sounding as it should
Hi, is this setup with catless downpipes?
It can be yes, and I have full sound comparison videos up with every possible variation.
I've been waiting for so long! Super excited to hear it, you did the audio-capture so well on the previous one.
Thank you! I will have a full audio comparison video up right after that.
@@BMWDIYGuy Delighted!
I'll be waiting eagerly, I'm planning on the equal length midpipes + akrapovic.
@@valosfarsangi6048 Excellent choice and you will be pleased. 8)
A lot of detail here, this will be really useful for a lot of people. Thanks
Glad to hear that!
it's one of the best exhaust solution for S55 but is not plug and play as you say
The install though is really simple.. make sure to check out the sound comparison video that just went up!
Where was this DIY vid when I did my EL 3 months ago :P
I get that.. mine just arrived 8)
Hey there, I watched your video and finally installed mine!
Does your exhaust system (AA EL midpipe & stock muffler) allow for bit of play from the rubber hanger after the install? I remember trying to shake the stock system before the install and there was literally no play and very solidly torqued. The thing was torqued down from the factory. Wondering if the slight play would cause a potential issue later on down the road...... Thanks!
Slight play shouldn't cause any issues as long as you have good clearances.
What kind of lift do you use? And did you buy the 4 rubber pieces for the lift points or do they come with the lift?
It's a Quickjack and I have several great videos on them.. Best tool I own
Thanks for this through install video--I'm going to use it when I get my EL! For cutting the stock pipes, how much tolerance does the AA clamp provide? As in, what if I'm slightly off the 1.5" mark? I've also seen on the forums several people having rattling issues and crackling sound at cold start, did you experience any of these? Thanks!
So making a clean cut is definitely important, but there IS some wiggle room for error. I make sure the joining clamps are tight enough as well, so to avoid the exhaust pieces moving around and potentially making noise.
this install is totally diy-able... I just didn't have any lifts at my disposal. Oh well, that's $200 down the drain for an easy install.
Still less than shop install and you are right, absolutely something that you can do!
Great video, will be using this when installing my AA midpipe on my M2C! :)
How did it go?
@@BMWDIYGuy It went great, love the EL sound!
Thanks for the torque values!
Happy to help!
Which bolt did you have to cut short, I think I have metal buzz between 1800-2000revs
It was one of the bolt heads for the head shield. Make sure to check all your clearances throughout
@@BMWDIYGuy appreciate the quick reply! Thank you
I like the single mid pipe better for the M2c. The equal length sounds more raspy to me.
I will have a full comparison video out this week including single and EL.
@@BMWDIYGuy nice. I have an M2c and have the mid pipe for over two years now. I unplugged my exhaust flaps to keep them always open.
Hey man, is this the non-resonated setup?
In this case it is resonated. I also have a full comparison video up with all of the options to hear the differences.
Quick question if I’m doin the AA midpipe and muffler.. no cutting needed?
Correct if the AA axle back. Your oem will come off in one piece
@@BMWDIYGuy awesome thanks for that info!
@@dylan-nguyen happy to help.. consider having a spare set of gaskets for the top connection to the DPs. Sometimes they come off ok, sometimes not
@@BMWDIYGuy yep as soon as you said that in the video I went to getbmwparts to bookmark the gasket!
