    Thanks for the video. I thought about going since I haven’t been for quite a few years but I am glad I didn’t. This bike show in the mid 90’s until about 2014 or so was very good. Lots of bike and component manufacturers would come and have sizeable displays. You could watch Ryan Leech do his trials show and Drew Bezanson would sign posters for the kids before doing the BMX competition which attracted quite a few top riders. Thanks again for taking the time to show what it was like.

    Rather looks like a flea market than a proper bicycle fair.

    I went back in about 2017 when it was at the expo area and it was great, tons of contests (both draws and physical challenges), so many vendors, tons of brands and cool tech, lots of clubs, and the BMX shows were jaw dropping how skilled the tricks being done were. I went on Saturday this year because my bike club (B1 Gruppo seen at 1:58) had some free tickets for club members. I agree with you, pretty lack luster, I was there for max 1 hr, my wife was surprised when I was home around noon!

    We took in the show the the Friday. There was a good crowd. It was smaller but this is the first show since the Pandemic. It should be back to normal size next year (I hope). Free parking is nice too.

    Tough bike show showing the state of the Canadian economy. It might be a dismal year for being a bicycle retailer trying to sell a $5000 plus bicycle in general. Hard to sell a mid range road bicycle when Canadians need to have a place to live and food on the table. Might be more super heavily discounted bicycle sales. Just maybe. Also there's the e bike battery problems. Overcharging the batteries and possible fire hazards.

    God, that looks depressing.
    I used to live going to that show. I even bought a bike there in 2012.
    There seemed to be a lot of empty soece there.
    I'm glad I stayed home.

    Same here in Vancouver, BC. Very disappointed. Not much bike manufacturers or brands. Only few locals. Mostly chinese brand even not major brand showed up except Trek.

    They shouldn't be at the International Centre. They used to be on the Exhibition Grounds where the downtown cyclist crowd can get there ON THEIR BIKES - what a thought! Looked smaller and sparsely populated too. Some of those e-bikes looked more like motorcycles - you think if Harley-Davidson slapped a couple of pedals on their motorcycles that they could get in there?

    Boy, that really was disappointing and there was so much unused space there, indicating a significant lack of vendors. I might've asked for my money back if you paid. 😞

      If I wasn't going for the express purpose of making this video, I would have been so angry. It was not worth the $20 admission and gas.
      Also, a bike show you can't reasonably get to by bike. Irony I should have brought up in the video.

    Louis Garneau was going bankrupt, the pandemic and Ebikes saved it.

      The pandemic added 4 years to LG, but they have stopped making bikes. Just clearance units left now. Costco was proof of that.

  • @benfsinger
    @benfsinger 7 місяців тому

    I appreciate this video, but did you interact with any of the manufacturers or displays? There could have been some interesting info from the unknown brands, or even some insight as to why some people are not there anymore. You paid to go (or got tix somehow), and went all the way out and only stayed an hour. I probably would have done the same, but I wasn't aiming to make a video about it! Anyway, I agree it looks bad, though I was never that keen on the shows even in their heyday. It's also worth mentioning if you didn't that the Spring show is still at Exhibition, and is generally bigger and better attended.

    • @pauldotbike
      @pauldotbike  7 місяців тому +1

      I talked talk to the retailers and some of other exibitors. I'm new to the UA-cam game and didn't have the confidence to go all interview on them though.
      This was the spring show. It moved to the Interntional centre in 2020.

    I can't believe there aren't better bike exhibits in Toronto, thanks for posting this, very disappointing. I'd rather goto an event where people just bring and show off their bikes to strangers in a parkinglot than something like this....

    It is unfortunate that you dismiss E-bike. The largest growing demographic in the biking industry are older than 55. That is because of E-bikes. More older people are out biking that ever, it's a fact.

    • @pauldotbike
      @pauldotbike  7 місяців тому +2

      Personally I am not in the market for an ebike. However, I do agree that there is a huge market for them and they deserve to be along side regular bikes at a show like this. The problem, and why I was dismissive, is that most of the ebike specific booths at the show were not selling the type of ebikes that an enthusiest would be interested in. Maybe someone looking for an inexpensive city/cargo bike. There were a handful of high end ebikes from reputable brands at some of the retailers and Yamaha was there. But the majority of what was there I wouldn't consider quality or interesting.

      You mean they are motoring. But yes, their motorized vehicles have been designed to look like bicycles, and they get to move their legs in a circle while the motor propels them.
