As a fellow 80's kid, I would say that folks our age have it even better than the kids of today... We got to see things progress from nearly the very beginning which allows us to appreciate just how far they have come... Cool old tech and a great video!
Really great video Fitz!! I think this might have gotten me excited about RC even earlier than I thought. Watching this reminded me of my grandpa who had one in the early 80’s. It was very basic like this. I think I must have used almost every flight sim game from full scale to RC over all these years. Such good memories. Thanks for making this video.
I remember playing the old NES console with the kids in the 80s. We had a lot of fun playing the side scroll games. Back in the early 90s computers were still having a hard time rendering circles. Watching you on the Dave Brown sim is bringing some smiles.
You weren't kidding ....some old pc's you collected...ya.need to simulate with the Snow on its way....the eye looks good.....glad it healed up.....see u.....and thanks for the fireside pc visit.....
Dave Brown was a local pattern flyer that lived in Hamilton Ohio and was the featured performer for many years at the Greater Cincinnati Radio Control Clubs annual R/C airshow at the former St. Francis Seminary flying field. Mr. Brown started to manufacture and sell parts and accessories for the model aircraft hobby. The model featured on the Sim is a representation of his pattern plane Phoenix. Just my recollection as a kid in the 70's
Wow, gloriously archaic but I wanted one so bad back in middle school when I first started RC. We didn't have a PC in the house, so it never happened. The crash repair estimate is a funny touch, ha!
i remember KT having one of these. You had to answer flight related trivia to unlock the game. Nagging pain in the *!@ to get unlocked sometimes!!!! Thanks for the memories, Fitz!
I had one of the later versions of the Dave Brown Flight Sim in the mid 90s when I started flying rc planes. I was about 11 years old at the time. Graphics were slightly better & smoother running but same big sheet metal controller 😂
Thanks for sharing, Fitz. I was an Atari 800 (not XL) geek and don't remember a compatible RC software for it. I spent many hours on my Atari flying Microsoft Simulator.
I still have mine. But mine takes a special graphics card hookup to work. Not sure I have a PC that will run it anymore. I'm not sure where to get the software either. I might still have the floppy that came with it.
My uncle had this same exact Dave Brown Sim for his Commodore 64 he later on was able to get a way better computer in the early 90's in which he got the much updated at the time version Dave Brown Sim with way better graphics then this version that also included both Helicopters and Jets with that same exact joystick.😊😊
Impressive, after take off it flew quite fast and agile. I thought it would move en second frames as on take off xD hahaha I had Formula 1 game on DOS and was really cool. And cool tones :P Have a nice 2025 Fitz, best regards from Upper Bavaria
I believe it’s the same John Kallend on rcgroups. Either way the one on rcg is more of a jerk than I would care to look up to for a simulator creator. He gets butthurt at so many things… I could only hope it’s a different person but I doubt it.

This is a great video! Two hobbies converge for the perfect dose of nostalgia.

That's a good point.
Man, that was a blast from the past! I had the pc version in the very early 90s. You’re right fitz - it was great for learning the very basics.
Ha! I recognized the C64 SID music on your videos! Love it!

It's amazing what has happened in 40 years. Can't imagine the graphics in 40 more years as photorealistic VR is just around the corner from today.

Hah. Copy protection back then was really annoying.
Great content! Love it!

yea, by the mid 90's you had a lot more computer horsepower to play with.
Jupp, had one of them... We're old 🤣🤣🤣

John Kallend is still very much around. My brother in law … sort of. Currently holidaying in South sea islands.
Wow. Small world. I will look into contacting him.
How's the latency You're doing pretty damn good. You're an old school heli guy so you have skills very impressed
Are there any good open source RC sims that run under Linux?
Repair Estimate - $58
I wish!
I was 13 I think when I got my C= 64. I prefer programming small computers to this day.
Wait... Guy with one eye found a copy online?! There's a joke to be had here, but it escapes me matey.
