Renata Tebaldi
Ettore Bastianini

Renato Capecchi
Dr: Francesco Molinari-Pradelli
Beautifully done with an exquisite cast in their prime. Such tremendously difficult music, sung with ardor and finesse. The story is something else, brutal, unyielding in its calamity. To me, it is not clear why Destiny has decided to pick on these people without end, but it has and only violent death releases its troubled heroine. This is really Verdi at his darkest. A big middle finger to romantic love and free will.
Corelli....a voice unsurpassed!
Did you hear how loud Tebaldi's chest voice was on the low note? You do not hear Soprano's today who can/will do that. Corelli, as always was superb. I was pleased to see his "low-larynx" technique on display and very visible. He had exceptionally fine resonance throughout his entire vocal range, simply phenomenal.
That is exactly what a "spinto" soprano is! A soprano capable of tackling high notes as well as dark, granitic chest notes, as required by the score. Tebaldi had all that!
dunno if anyone cares but if you guys are bored like me atm then you can stream all of the latest movies and series on instaflixxer. I've been binge watching with my brother for the last weeks =)
@Jude Samuel Yup, I've been watching on InstaFlixxer for since december myself :D
Voci titaniche... Belli a vedersi...
Bravi Bravissimi💖💖
Vaya duo 😃😃😃😃❤❤❤❤🥰🥰🥰🥰👏👏👏👏
The incarnation of opera!
Could you rephrase the question so I can understand it better?
what and who better than this performance? the top one ever!! no one better!!
Dammit!!! Every time I see those frikken boots, I wish I had a pair to wear to Walmart.
Plus, apparently you can sing like a God wearing them!
Bravo and Brava! Two of the best operatic voices to grace our stages.
Franco keeps himself in the same dynamic as Renata-he is one of few persons who is able to do it
Splendide Renata Tebaldi !!!
Meravigliosi....
Bastianini... Sings with total ballsy spinto, even after fatally shot with a knarly ball of lead. Well,... there it is!!
csodás hang
The reason there are no more voices like these two is because the teaching today emphasizes singing Lieder and not opera. Small, intimate singing will not develop such voices. It makes them swallowed, nasal and small. Also, the teachers don't teach the right kind of support and make students sing too pinched, nasal, and off the voice. The voice should never stuck in the nose
Absolutely right! Teachers today have no idea how to teach voices for the theatre - only for the microphone! And if you try to audition with such a voice, they will tell you "too much voice"!!! I have had this experience many times, as have my students!
Find someone who is or was a professional opera singer and has a reputation for creating operatic voices.
I've actually had to teach MYSELF to sing like this because there are no teachers who can or will do it.
HOT HOT HOT! Mamita! Thx for sharing
!!!!!!!!!!!
37 old Correli here in his experience but already near the Crisis !
What a shame that this is such a poor recording... especially the video. I guess they didn't have the technology back then. I understand that this "film" was made by filming a TV performance by what amounted to putting a camera in front of a TV screen. Known as a "kinescope". However, some prints of this performance are better than others.
Agree, but despite all the limitations, this was magnificent.
They film originally in 16mm b&w silent film (audio was recorded on nagra devices and synced in post-production on video) in a theatre without enough lights (also if they turn on the lights). The film stripe was developed in chemical liquids "over" the normal, for maximizing the light, resulting in poor definition.
In 1958 and with these technology and ambient, this was the best possible.
They DON'T USE a "kinescope". AFAIK, the film wasn't aired on television, and was "lost" in the RAI archives until 90s when was recovered and restored as best as possible, synced to the audio, and finally recorded on video for first time, for the VHS distribution.
BTW, the cost of film stripe was high and this result in numerous cut of the opera (if you see all the opera) made by Molinari-Pradelli according to the cast and production

Note that Corelli's larynx (thyroid cartilaginous protuberance) was lowered for that note as for the other highest notes he sang in this clip. I don't know if he had consulted with Melochi by this point, but he seems to be using Melochi's technique. His vocal production has always seemed effortless with virtually no extrinsic laryngeal musculature (ELM) being activated (as it should be). So many others relied on ELM to help them reach the notes, but not Corelli.
Awful acting
why don't you say it again-how's the singing?
Emily Greene. Has no talent. Criticizes her betters.
Horrible stage acting by Corelli and Tebaldi (the random woman in the background was the best actor out of them all), but the singing is mostly good (Corelli has some problems with caprino - Renata is technically solid) though rather static and at times, vocally overacted.
We will never find in history anything asstupid as your commentary. Congratulations!
There are not any caprino singing there. Corelli had that problem at the beginning of his career not in 1958.
Corelli was a great actor 👏
@@jimmychoo1857 Agreed-really ill-informed remarks
agreed!
