I had a deaf co-worker friend and fellow union member I worked with once. She was a wonderfully patient person with us. She was a great lip-reader. I turned away while speaking and she literally grabbed my head and turned me toward her as she said, "I can't 'hear' you if I can't see you." That was a lesson learned. This video is exciting watching Mike and crew fix a problem for a smart person to function properly.
I really wished they would have showen the whole episode. What Mike and the crew did for this girl was incredible. They installed a strobe light for the door bell and her phone and for her lights to go off and on so she knows when people are at the door they went above and beyond for her and she deserved it it was a great episode. It just shows what a big heart everyone that was working on the team has.
Mike, as a "deafie"(a hearing person who works, or, lives with deaf people) thank-you for doing an episode on the needs of deaf people in the world of owning a "owning a home that caters to their particular needs.🤟🤓🤭🥰😀 Doug
The best programme of this kind ANYWHERE! Love it! Educational - humour - honesty - cleanliness - trust - professionalism. Pay attention, Governments of the world. Cheers from bonnie Scotland.
Bob was ok but couldnt hold a hammer next to Mike IMO....i grew up watchin Bob cause my dad liked him. This old house puts me to sleep compared to anything with Mike and his crew.
His crew seems like a great group of people to be around. Love how they get along with each other and how they kid around at times to take the edge off of the situation.
How many homes have you fixed, ha ha It is how many lives have you saved , over and over I watch you fixed homes not done right, you come in and fix a home, But saved lives at same time...Great Mike & your crew... Come fix America....
Holmes & crew are my heroes...unfortunately I live in Australia - would love to see something like these great guys out here. I live by myself (widowed) & my house I love but it's a wreck. On beautiful property but I cannot upkeep. These guys just make weep at times at their kindness.
svtfast, if you ask a question, be sure to turn on replies! Wood that's been pressure treated with preservative has a different color to it (I usually see green, not blue) so that inspectors can tell at a glance if the proper kind of material has been used.
That header they were so worried about in the kitchen served absolutely no purpose the way it was installed.(it was about 5" away from the double top sil plate),so what was it holding up? nothing...........
Hmm, is it just me that I cannot seem to find them using any “Dewalt Tools?” Makes us wonder what has happened? In my eyes Dewalt are not king of the Hill in power tools, many other manufacturers are, like Milwaukee tools and Hilti, both excellent tool companies. Good choice
Phil Boardman They used DeWalt before. Probably got sponsorship from other companies. But Milwaukee, Ryobi and other companies have been doing great with power tools
Thanks for sharing this video, but for your video to truly offer full communication access you have to include professional captioning. The UA-cam beta automatic captions are very inaccurate!! Please add captioning! Thanks!
I hate to break it to you but @ 10:36 you have the header in which was the whole purpose but you forgot the cripples between the header and the top plate...just sayin'...lol
Good thing you guys have helmets on but there all backwards .I know you changed the inner lining but I don't think it is OSHA compliant.I guess it looks cool?
Cut it 3 times and it's still to short...have the new guy grab the board stretcher...while he is there, have him put some blinker fluid in Mike's truck for him...
This is a show people, which means it's produced. The beam would have been addressed before starting, and they way they talk is way over the top and silly. Very corny and it loses credibility with people who do this on a daily basis.
Its canada and he uses his kidsI know but they like the ''this old house'' of the united states...they refuse it seems to hire/use minority people, people of color. explanations are pretty good, but keep the camara away from the host and highlight the work. quit trying to make a movie star. This should be strictly renovation....not kardashian moments
Another thing. I have never in my 20+ years in construction seen a 1 inch concrete floor. More garbage you gotta watch out for on uneducated television shows like these
card969 If being dumb and gullible like you should make me jealous than I guess I am terribly jealous. I'm also jealous that I don't know how to spell as accurately as you. Wow, thanks for making me realize how jealous I truly am when I didn't even know that!
Well, of course concrete floors aren't *supposed* to be 1 inch, but the whole point of the show is that things often end up not being done to code when ignoramuses are doing the job.
dlwatib the point is that this pink stud is trying to make professionals like myself who have to and do understand the purpose of codes and inspections look bad to the home owner. the beam was not cut prior to inspection... that building is way to new for that
all you people that are supporting Holmes... you have no idea that your only supporting television and are loosing focus on reality trades people! This guy has no clue and is manipulating those of you that watch to much TV. For example .. glue, screw and nail a beam? Glue is a waste of time, especially in that kind of scenario... Screw? Screws have no sheer strength so all and all this clown is playing with your heads. I know this because many of us have done this kinda work for a lot longer than this guys been on TV
I think if you correct construction problems for over 20 years that you'd also be more than a bit peeved at so-called professionals that cut through critical support beams in order to install plumbing and commit other egregious errors that can potentially cause structural failure. As for your criticisms about screws and glue, you obviously have no idea what you're talking about. The whole point is to make the reinforcement act as a single solid piece with the existing beams. Screws and glue do that better than nails. Yes, you need nails for sheer strength, but you nails won't adhere the individual pieces to each other to make a single beam.
realemonful I am an IT person, so I have no idea about construction, but I would have used 12mm bolts with 40mm "penny" washers to clamp that up, no less than a foot apart...
+realemonful I would assume that you're probably one of those people who has done subpar jobs, and other people have had to come and fix. Just from the way your talking.

***** no one on PBS is this awesome.
Bob was ok but couldnt hold a hammer next to Mike IMO....i grew up watchin Bob cause my dad liked him. This old house puts me to sleep compared to anything with Mike and his crew.
@@ham4fun For me PBS has gotten where they only work on big expensive projects.
I love that these are able to be seen again. Nice to see some old faces too, no longer with Holmes group.
What an awesome change for the deaf woman. I love the "open" (windows) look. It makes the rooms friendly and feels spacious. Great job!!
Why is the wood pink?
Great job guys! I've been in construction all my life and this turned out to be a good project.
No! It was my idea!! Ha!
Loved the banter between those two.
Love the show.
Would love to work a day or week with Mike's crew.
His crew seems like a great group of people to be around. Love how they get along with each other and how they kid around at times to take the edge off of the situation.
Keep doing what You do Mike and crew!!!
God it's complicated. You all do great work and think it out well
I just love Mike and his people.
How many homes have you fixed, ha ha
It is how many lives have you saved
, over and over I watch you fixed homes not done right, you come in and fix a home,

Maybe hire a handy man that will be willing to work or offset room and board for Improvements.
the header switch was awesome
I like that they use pink wood to show us the replacing of the horrible jobs other contractors done to build the homes
Loved the show
Mike pick the right guy for the job👍👍👍
hey Mike you should come to the States and follow home inspectors. Some are just stupid.
i would hire mike and his crew or this old house and the silva crew both are great
svtfast, if you ask a question, be sure to turn on replies! Wood that's been pressure treated with preservative has a different color to it (I usually see green, not blue) so that inspectors can tell at a glance if the proper kind of material has been used.
Thanks - I was wondering about the different colors.
Great Episode
What is the pink rated 2x4s
love your show, when i can watch it.
The reason construction takes so long play time and jokes lol 😂😂 😂
What's up with the pink wood?
That's what I was wondering.
Always keep a notepad and pencil in the front of your pouch.
You'll never forget or miss a measurement.
12:23 What did she say?
Why pink beam
When did they switch from DeWalt to Hilti? I think they should've gone to Milwaukee.
Closed caption please
+Jason C. I did I don't see it
Curious about the wood being pink.
It’s for mold and fire protection
mr. mike sir how would a handi capped nut like my self reseal my bedroom floor to keep the out smelss from entering my tomb aka bed room ....sir
He’s not a carpenter, he’s a handyman
Construction-site mistake turned into a really great prank! From 7:42 to 10:27.
Mike Holmes. Do you have a New Zealand contact?? I love the Denver Timber Block. I’d like 7000 square feet one.
Uh oh!!!! Theyre looking at the"STRUCTURE"!!!!!!
Why are most of the boads pink? Just curious.
why u all wearing hardhats instead of bump hats??
Canadians are polite. I enjoy America but it's people get angrier by the day
My home is killing me and I would like to have some years to enjoy it. Started with it while husband was still alive, in air force. Lives in OKLAHOMA
He passed from Agent Oreoge
Did Damon say, "Oh Andrew, you're getting a raise" at 8:40?
That header they were so worried about in the kitchen served absolutely no purpose the way it was installed.(it was about 5" away from the double top sil plate),so what was it holding up? nothing...........
Ryte im not even in construction but realized that aswell they just was taking up money and time and using space
Is this show still on??
Will Ellison restored farm tractor collection
Yes it is its on DIY network on cable.
Love him!!!!!!

He wasn't really on the phone though.....
forgot to take off,or add 1.5 inches
Thanks for sharing this video, but for your video to truly offer full communication access you have to include professional captioning. The UA-cam beta automatic captions are very inaccurate!! Please add captioning! Thanks!
Always say most expensive work is cheap work. Because it paid twice. The most expensive labor it cheap labor
Did Holmes join the union?
Weird watching this at normal speed...
Why do they have helmets on?
To protect their heads from anything falling OR bumping into anything solid by accident.
❤❤❤❤
Glue screw and nail it.
Good planning, Damon. Duh.
I hate to break it to you but @ 10:36 you have the header in which was the whole purpose but you forgot the cripples between the header and the top plate...just sayin'...lol
Always hurts a little seeing Craig.
Great topic - needs captions for the Deaf to benefit from this.
Damon reminds me of Corey Haim
I see what you mean.
I like actually seeing a miter saw other than DeWalt being used, I own that Milwaukee miter saw and it's an accurate beast.. Just saying.
My god, watch this at 50 percent speed... trust me.
This is how you make a new wall cost 10 grand!!!
Huh?
Good thing you guys have helmets on but there all backwards .I know you changed the inner lining but I don't think it is OSHA compliant.I guess it looks cool?
OSHA? This was in Canada, not in USA.
That Damon is annoying
Cut it 3 times and it's still to short...have the new guy grab the board stretcher...while he is there, have him put some blinker fluid in Mike's truck for him...
An inch of concrete...I think not...
At 40 seconds in he's not even talking to anyone on the phone. The whole conversation is faked lol. Look at the phone, the keypad is on the screen.
American here... What's with the pink wood?
If I remember correctly, mould, fire and something else resistant.
getsomemoreguys
Damian is mikes holmes puppet thats why he tries to be a mike holmes
This is a show people, which means it's produced. The beam would have been addressed before starting, and they way they talk is way over the top and silly. Very corny and it loses credibility with people who do this on a daily basis.
It's not written for your colleagues. It's written for people interested in learning stuff you apparently already know.
Stop wearing the hard hats
Oh yeah, and if they had sistered up the beam the way they originally wanted... it would have never passed the canadian building code
Don't know why, but I just can't stand Damon. He seems like a nice guy but is just a little annoying.
Its canada and he uses his kidsI know but they like the ''this old house'' of the united states...they refuse it seems to hire/use minority people, people of color. explanations are pretty good, but keep the camara away from the host and highlight the work. quit trying to make a movie star. Was residential electrician/licensee in the united states (cleveland) since 1989. I know
Whatever happened to this guy? He w as everywhere now all he has is ten year old rerunds on HGTV fixing some decrepit kitchen.
Ok that was cool but it's not nice to bully your workers.
Another thing. I have never in my 20+ years in construction seen a 1 inch concrete floor. More garbage you gotta watch out for on uneducated television shows like these
Agreed. Code is 3 1/2 - 4" Everyone exaggerates from time to time to prove a point. It doesn't mean they don't know what they are doing.
Sounds like someone is butthurt jelous they don't have there own show.

I'm the one that fixes other wannabe's jobs lol... including holmes's...
You sound like a handyman tbh whos jobs Mike Holmes and his crew fix everyday
Why would you waste expensive fire retardant Lundbergs for temporary walls?
