Dr. Lori, I live near your hometown in Connecticut and took a ride to Rhode Island last week. I was talking to an antique dealer and mentioned you. He not only knew exactly who you are, but he RAVED about you! You’re a hot ticket, my friend!!!
@@DrLoriV I am already on it!!! You have been INVALUABLE to me, in ways you will never know. Thank you again. Getting ready to be able to get your subscription. I have built a small inventory of mostly paintings, and need your expertise. My husband wants me to hurry up and get rid of them, I said "NO WAY! Dr. Lori says you don't get rid of something until you know its value." :)
I always negotiate negotiating is in my blood and it’s rare that I don’t get half off no matter how cheap it started off negotiate negotiate negotiate it’s a whole art in itself and I am an artist
Dr. Lori, thanks so much for doing these marvelous videos. What a delightful respite they are, a fun and informative escape for all the dreadful news. I am so grateful, and I hope you're not just doing well, but flourishing.
I just discovered Dr. Lori three days ago and already am hooked. The videos are so entertaining and educational and I love her wit and skills. What a gem! Thank you and greetings from Germany.
On the native american art you use the term "costume" the correct term is "Regalia" not offended, just wanted to tell people so they would be aware the native americans are not "in costume dressed as native american" they are ACTUALLY native american. So instead of costumes their "outfits" are called regalia. Love your channel Dr. Lori!!!!!
Thank you for your comment. Vocabulary is important. I thought it was clear that my reference was to actual Native Americans and not someone posing or dressing as Native Americans. I am glad you love the channel and hope you share it with others. Many of my books and academic research has been on Native American art so yes regalia is correct but not widely used. Thanks again.
@@DrLoriV OH yes I have been sharing it with everyone, my husband bought me a treasure hunting kit for my birthday which is today and your reply was the icing on my cake. So glad to hear from you! I'm 59 today and looking forward to more yard sales, auctions and thrift stores and maybe getting something appraised with you when I find just the right item...lol
I love going shopping. Maybe a bit too much. Now with all the knowledge Dr Lori has shared; I'm at every Estate sale and garage sale I can find. Went to a estate sale this past Saturday and there was a ton of good stuff (46 tables of stuff), but the children of the person who passed are also antique dealers. They set the prices and wouldn't budge. It was a great sale for collectors, but not for resellers. I did end up buying a brand new Vitamix blender for only $60.00. I think I got the best item there, except for the Cambridge glass Shell bowl with flying woman. It was gone by the time I got through the line. Thanks again for the fun video.
I am so not a negotiator! I went to a flea market with my sister and picked up a tiny ceramic rabbit. it wasn't priced, but the other items on the shelf were all $1. When we went to check out, the woman said that's $1.50, and my sister argued her down! :D That's a big sister for you! :)
Another wonderfully packed with information video! Your recall/memory never ceases to amaze me, such a variety of items and yet you know the time period and value of each and every one. impressive! You deliver your appraisals with just the right amount of humor!! Love it 😀
Awesome! I have family there and am thinking of relocating from Florida. My dream is to find a valuable antique! Maybe there is another copy of the Declaration of Independence hidden behind a cheap print or a small French or Pennsylvania Impressionist painting that was dismissed as a forgery tucked away that came out of one of those stone farm houses!😀

I was surprised by the value of the Napoleon images. Nice to know about Turkish brass better than India. Uncle Louie, you crack me up, LOL. The pipe and tobacco box pretty cool.
Very interesting that the cast horses and carriage was from Turkey and not India. I was guessing India. I love your videos because they teach so much history.
I need help please. How do you stop mold on a painting. I found some thing that an estate sale today and I was told the artist is called George GROSZ. But there is some mold under the glass and some water damage around the edges please help thank you
Sorry, I'm not a conservator. Check with your local museum and ask if they have a professional that they can suggest. Please don't try some procedure you find on the internet. I've seen a lot of pieces ruined when people try things that they aren't trained to do.
I started to watch your channel love it I have a princess Diana beanie baby it has PE pellets and sits up straight like one of your old videos what does that mean?
Sunday??? Oh I missed you!!!! 🥱 I was out & about and didn’t know that your love chat was happening yesterday afternoon. How sad for me. 👎🏼 Where can I find a schedule of when you’re going to be hosting live broadcasts?
I disagree if the item is listed at 10% of its value why would you negotiate. As a seller I get people asking for a $3 item for $2. Also the theory if you can’t afford or don’t want to pay the extra $1 don’t buy it. If something was priced at $50 and the vendor really only wanted $20 then he should have just listed it for $20 instead of wasting time.
You have every right to disagree. You can also say no to a customer who asks for a lower price. If you say no, they may still buy it at your price. You can also wait for another potential buyer who is willing to pay your price. I help both buyers and sellers make money.
Love watching Dr.Lori.Learning alot.Tyou
