Agree, but just a warning wait until the people move out or at least give permission before you do it. The police didn't care how much fun I was having for some reason.
I am ready to get rid of my furniture & belongings right now and I am barely 60. There comes a time when one is just done with it all & need a clean break.
I'm glad to see Alex back to helping with clean outs, but at the same time I have a twinge of sadness for the elderly people who have had to leave so much of their prior lives behind. I know we all age and give up our treasures but it's still a bit sad. Hopefully the left overs can provide furnishings for half a dozen Ukrainian families.
I felt the same way. It looks like my house. But what I figure is that I can enjoy all of the stuff while I am here and then it can all be sold to give the money to my kids. They only have to keep what they want and walk away from the rest. Leave that for some collector to enjoy. That's how treasures are found.
My only experience with this type of thing was with my mom. She was was absolutely not a hoarder in any way, but as she got older the house, the yard and two outbuildings, and all they contained became more and more of a burden to her and caused her a lot of anxiety. I think the stress of it all caused her to lose attachment to most of it. When she went into assisted living, it was like 10 years fell off her. She had everything she needed, was able to take a few pieces of furniture and artwork to make her room feel like home and was happier than we had seen her in years. She told us to take what we wanted and donate everything that was left. So...it's not always sad. I know that having the burden of house and property taken off her shoulders added years to my mother's life.
Two LOL moments: When you thought the music box was done and it started back up, and when you went into the garage and said, "Ok, don't get distract--Ooh!" when you saw the snow blower. hahah Looks fun!
Dear Archbold family. 👍👌👏 Back to the roots at last! Looks already like a really great purchase. Congratulations!🎉 What an impressive house on a fantastic property. Looks like a dream to me. Nothing looks cheap, everything seems to be really good quality stuff (for instance the hand truck/sack barrow). Everything is even pretty clean. Thanks a lot for making explaining recording editing uploading and sharing. Best regards, luck and especially health to all involved.
Love these clear out videos, but always worry a little about you. Take care of your back and wear a mask when you need it! Thanks for sharing your adventures.
Hi Alex. I haven't watched you in a long time. I opened up UA-cam and your video was the 1st one. So glad it was there, that way I can start watching you again.
While I have no idea of the facts behind your recent clean out, it saddens me so much to see how a life time is reduced to trash and fodder. Been thru this a couple of times with family members, but it is still so sad to see this realization for any human being.
I think the music box song is just "Somewhere My Love" (Lara's Theme)" from the 1965 MGM film Doctor Zhivago. It started playing when you opened the bottom drawer of the jewelry box, so it will probably stop by closing it again.
I grew up on a farm. Helped both my grandparents clean up their farms in my 20's and 1 moved soon after. After my parents retired and moved to town then a retirement residence all that was left fit in a small u haul and minimal furniture. Less stress and going thru items is best. I hope to downsize and get rid alot of items when I retire as I do not want to leave too much for my children.
I cleaned out my house about 6 months ago. Thought I got rid of so much, but when we packed to move, I couldn't believe how much more stuff we didn't need. Very careful about what we buy now.
😂😂😂😂I love it!!! Sounds like the theme song for Dr.Zhivago. I gave Mom and dad a snow globe with that song. Mom hated it 😂Also the cuckoo clock I gave her....
A man bought a music box for his wife's birthday, thought it played happy birthday, turned out it played "the old gray mare she ain't what she use to be ". Doesn't pertain, just funny 😊
The weaving loom will get you a few hundred $'s, especially if all the extras come with it. Look for the wooden bench that goes with it as that will add a lot of value. I also noticed what looked like a warping mill in the garage. To maximize your profits, maybe a member of a local weavers guild can come in and help you identify all the weaving bits you may find throughout the house.
Alex never does anything to "maximize" his profits. He donates or tosses perfectly sellable stuff and takes every thing to Kaster auction house where a large majority of the items don't go for near what he could get for them with a little effort. i understand his fast nickle over a slow dime philosophy but still.
@@justmeiniowa He does that not only to sell faster but also because of the extra room he would need to hold onto all of those sellable things, especially when doing a clean out like this one. A lot of more modern furniture and other stuff never sells for much and/or it sits for a long time before it sells. It's not worth hanging onto things like that. It's better to give it to someone that could use it and get it out of your way. I don't know if he does this but sometimes when you donate stuff you can use that as a tax write off up to so much.
@@gigicostlow4414 I know this but I still disagree with using Kastners exclusively and he has stated in videos he does NOT get any tax write offs for donations.
There's even nice decorating pieces for your yard . The iron bench will look so pretty sitting underneath the tree on the back lot a lot of those items for the outdoors would be so pretty
What a charming Tudor-style house, complete with an English cottage garden. These folks must have really enjoyed their lovely home. It's great that it's pretty clean, too. Happy sorting, I'll be along for the ride.
For the spinning wheel and loom…they look to be functional tools. You might try to contact a local spinning or weaving guild, for assistance in pricing/ selling these tools.
You were the first person I followed on line because of the content. Lost interest after you no longer did this. So happy you are back at it!!! Such a perfect Saturday event. Thanks..
Yay, another house clearing! That knee lever for the sewing machine doesn't make it go. It's a hands free way of raising and lowering the presser foot. Thanks for another interesting adventure!
Yay! Judging from the other comments, I’m not the only one thrilled about this series! I’ve so missed the “bought the whole house” type series! Thanks for bringing these types of videos back, Alex!
I don't know if you have cleared everything yet but please consider leaving some basic gardening equipment for the new owners. When we bought our house we'd moved from an apartment and had nothing and were so grateful to have almost everything we needed to do the upkeep.
That rooster dish you found on the porch in the box, I have the teapot that matches and I did used to have the whole set. Got them from Sears! The music box has been waiting for you for an age but it sounds spooking because it is likely full of dust. It is lovely.
NOOO! Use the wasp spray in the evening when the queen and her workers are in the nest for the night, unless Canadian wasps go to sleep later than Florida wasps. Love your cleanout videos!
That's what I do. I use a flashlight to locate it then point it away then spray and quickly turn off the light and walk away. They don't like to fly at night because they don't see well when it's dark. I haven't been stung yet doing it this way.
This is a beautiful property! And I can tell that these people were very interested in many things. It almost reminds me of our house, just not as much stuff. I'm glad their things aren't just being tossed out.

Yeah!!!! I love these videos! Thanks, Alex! Remember to pace yourself! I love all the clocks! The creepy music box sound is legit!!! SO good to see Melissa and the youngest! SO much stuff, and then you say, "Oh care tires!".You are so entertaining! I LOVE this!!!! 🥰
Alex I remember being so overwhelmed for you when you went through the Potter’s house and then the musician’s house but you kept us all grounded and focused. So we need that again. And please wear a mask Alex. Your voice changes as you talk when you’re around all this dust. Can’t wait to see all that you can save from this house. ✌🏻🤍🤞🏽
I’ve watched since the Potters House. I LOVED that series. I live in NZ and would have bought so much stuff if I lived in Canada! Now you are starting on another house and I’ve already seen stuff I would love to buy…. But by the time I bought & shipped it would be prohibitive. It looks like the couple were artistic, weaving, spinning, sewing, drawing, gardening, renovating, collecting- it’s like you can get to know them through their possessions. We recently had to clear out my mother’s home. It was strange seeing a life being divided into family, auction, donation and landfill. And sad. Make sure if you want certain items to go to certain folk, write it down. 😊
Alex, those mid-century chairs are going to pay you back for the price of everything. You are going to make a mint off of those. Wow! Myself, I wouldn't put them in auction, but instead set a price and have them go that way.
What a beautiful, peaceful property - can't wait to see it all cleared out. A lot of that stuff is a gardener's dream! It's going to make someone a wonderful home. The birds sound like they're used to being alone or missing the owners.
That loom up on the top floor's probably worth quite a bit; I'd talk to any weaving or yarn shops in the area, they might want to buy it outright or know of a buyer. I've done some weaving and know a weaver; looms are expensive.
So excited that these types of videos are back. My favorite, speaks to the organizer in me

Couldn't have said it better myself 🥰
Yep
Why do we love these house clean out/hoard videos? I was with you on the Potter House. Great content. Be careful Alex and take care of yourself.
I think it’s because it gives us a view into somebody’s life. It’s fun to see what others thought was cool enough to keep around.
I'm really exited about another house cleanout! It looks messy, but long time viewers have seen Way Worse!
Because it makes us feel better about what we are hanging on to. As long as we don’t feel like we are hanging on to as much as others are hanging on to, then we can justify what we are keeping.
