@@Johnbuildsiconic the closest to her in design is the Iron Duke imo, albeit the duke is a bit bigger and faster.
I’ve used to play iron duke in world of warships. I will have to take a good look at the design now. Thank you for your comment
@@Johnbuildsiconic 😁
So beautiful my friend woouu
Thank you Daniel
nice build !!!
Thank you
You’re very talented. Why are you whispering?
I wouldn’t say I was whispering in this video Robert, but I I’m very softly spoken
Bonita maqueta eso sí pintada quedaría mejor
Being a native to Texas, and having seen the ship up close and personal. I want to thank you. She had a proud service history.
A really nice model, I like it. The model could well be equipped with lighting.
Why do not they actually paint their models before?
It’s easier to paint the model after
For you newbies out there. Don't follow the sequence John has filmed. You'll find yourself getting stuck. He has completed some sections but not filmed them. If you follow his build, you'll find yourself with many extra bits that are hard to place. Follow the instructions and use Johns video as a reference. this isn't an indictment on John, nor am I criticizing him
Hi paul, I totally agree with you, this buiid was never filmed as a guide, thats why I’ve not added guide or tutorial in the videos title, it’s was filmed more of a visual reference for people
@@Johnbuildsiconic And a great video it is John. Looking forward to many more mate
You didn't paint it 😂
That’s in the next video
Is it just me or are those quad Bofors out of scale? They look hardly any bigger than the 20mm's
I built the 1:700 Trumpeter Texas, but after seeing your video, I want to build the big one too.
More detail with the 1/350 versions andrew
What do you use to clean your glue brushes with? I just purchased this kit online and enjoyed your video. Thank you.
Hi Dan, I don’t clean the glue brushes, I just use my old ones, That are ready to be frown away after
@@Johnbuildsiconic OK, thank you for your response.
Ww2 has ark Royal aircraft carrier
Thank you for your comment, I’m working on the HMS dreadnaught atm, but I would love to build the ark royal
Amazing
Thank you
paint?
Hi Bryan please watch part 2. When I paint the Texas
Must be tricky to paint as a whole?🤔
I have the video when I’m painting Texas
how are you going to paint it now its fully built?
Hi mate, part 2 painting the Texas is next in the playlist
I seem to have misplaced my directions for this ship. Does anyone know where I can get a copy?
most of her aa guns were taken down, only a fraction of what she has still is there, she still has some Bofors on display.
Hi Carlos I would love to pay her. the Texas a visit one day
Umm, you forget something. PAINT. Bloody hell man! You spent all that effort building a huge 1/350 battleship - with photoetch - and didn't put a drop of paint on the plastic. Sorry but that's just kind'a weird... and frankly, it makes me a bit sad. Model builders come in all configurations and skill levels but if you aren't painting your models what is the point? I'll check in when you change the name of your channel to "John Builds AND Paints", haha. 😆
I think you needed to watch part 2 before commenting my friend
@@Johnbuildsiconic Yep! Sorry 'bout that.
Does anyone know where you can by it at
hi victor, I brought this kit from Amazon
Did you use Eduard’s Texas photo etch sets?
Hi dog of war. No I only used the standard PE set that come with the kit
@@Johnbuildsiconic well the Texas looks great. I grew up near The Last Dreadnought and they are getting ready to put her in a dry dock for much needed repairs. We hope they Dry Berth her when the 24 months of repair work is done. For me the old girl is the birthplace of the 1st and 2nd Marine Divisions were authorized in spring of 1941 on the aft quarterdeck. As a Marine I served in both Divisions in my career. Awesome build and paint job in your second video 👍
I'll be buying this texas bb35 and can't wait to see it progress in my build
You will enjoy the Texas bb35 kit
I was on the ship in 2008,,,
I would love to visit the Texas. one day hopefully
SOS I've still not received any feedback on my issue with the planking in the Pontos supplemental kit that I posted 3 weeks ago. I continue to not be able to move forward working on Texas until I can get that resolved and spent too much money on the Pontos kit - and mostly for the planking - to simply proceed without. Absolutely no beneficial assistance from the folks at Pontos . . . there seems to be a disconnect due to language issues. Wishing now that at least one of my parents had been Korean. Alas. Any help would be muchly appreciated!! CDQ
Hi Dennis I’ve not worked with the pontos planking kit so I can’t be much help for you, do pontos have a Facebook group if so you could maybe get some help on there
@@Johnbuildsiconic Thank you John - appreciating your prompt response! I'll give that a go. . .. when I purchased the basic kit I didn't realize that it included almost all of the items the Pontos kit contained with the exception of the planking - which I can't as yet use. Alas. Anchors away!
Good luck
Awesome work my friend keep up the good work
Thank you
Amazing build!!!!! Thank you so much //Lars

Did you use Eduards photo etch on the Texas?
wish i had the money to buy a 1/350th ship
Hi brain. The 1/350 scale kits are abit cheaper. The USS Texas kit cost around $70
@@Johnbuildsiconic never seen a 1/350 for less then 150 and that was some kind of DD ... always wanted the CBN65 but thats 2-3 hundred at least
What glue do you use?
How I’m the world do you paint all the horizontals after building in this manner. I need to know! 😂
please watch part 2
Will you fully paint this ship?
Hi Michael the painted Texas is next on the playlist mate
@@Johnbuildsiconic Great !!!! thank you cant wait to see it
are the PE parts optional in this kit?
Hi lex. No the PE parts came standard with the kit. Amazing kit for around £60
@@Johnbuildsiconic i've never used pe before so i'd rather not use it on a kit if i don't need it, thanks for letting me know
Hi don’t be out of about working with PE parts. They are not that hard to work with
@@Johnbuildsiconic well i'm getting the USS Missouri by Very Fire soon and it comes with one sheet, i'll have a go with that.

Hi my friend. watch part 2
does this kit come with photo etch?
hi yes the PE parts come as standard with this kit

How about a complete ship rather than a commision made model for a company with brass parts?
Hi my friend, this wasn’t a commission build, I just built it that way
Did you paint this model after you assembled it together? Not everything is going to be battleship grey or deep dark blue. There are some things that are black.
How many manhours you reckon you ve put into this kit?
Hi grzegorz. I built this kit over 2 weeks. spending about an hour per day on the build. So no more then about 15 man hours
@@Johnbuildsiconic does that include the painting though?
@@Sinistercabbage. hi. no sorry to paint the texas total time was around 10hours
about how long do you let the glue dry or oi set up ?
hi jerry, the glue i used on the plastic parts ?
@@Johnbuildsiconic yes
I normally leave the parts glued fit a couple of hours, and go work on something else
Looks great !! 1/350 is highly detailed but I will stick with 1/700 anyway lol
Hi bilal. Thank you for your comment. I’m not sure I could model at 1/700 scale. I Had some eye strain working at 1/350
G'day from OZ John. Your videos are concise with expert tips. I've just finished watching both your tutorials on the USS Texas and enjoyed both of them very much. What a beautiful ship. So much so I've just purchased the ship and the full Pontos up-grade set, think I got the last one for sale anywhere in the world ! Cost a fortune but I believe it will embellish the ship even more. These older battleships have much more character than the more modern WW2 ships in my opinion. I'm sure your videos will help me heaps when it comes to my build so thanks again.
Thank you Paul. I really enjoy building and filming the USS taxes. I I’m sure you will enjoy building it also. I’ve a commissioned build of the USS Hawaii that I will be starting in the new year
Nice video John. The dark background really helped to see the close up action.
Hi graham, I thought it would be better then the background of the green cutting mat
I paint as I go along, but leave the photo-etch for last. Especially railings and such. With that said, I just bought this kit after contributing to her drydocking and restoration. I've built several battleships in 1/700, but recently moved up to 1/350.
Hi Joshua, 1/350 scale is the lowest I go, 1/700 scale is to hard on my eyes
@@Johnbuildsiconic I mostly did 1/700 due to limited space at the time. Now that I've cleared out my room and added some shelving, I'll be re-doing my entire 1/700 collection in 1/350. Hood, Bismarck, Prinz Eugen, Repulse, North Carolina, Richelieu, and Graf Spee. In addition, I have Massachusetts and Ranger in 1/350 already.
Great model collection
Love the build, any update on painting her??
Hi Ddubzz, I’ve started the filming of the painting, should be on the channel end of October
John I was just watching your USS Texas build. What is the best kind of glue to use on photoetch parts? What do you recommend? I have a small amount for my HMS Hood.
Hi mate. If your on the stream later, I will talk about the glue I use on PE parts
Okay thanks, I'll try to catch the livestream later today. Thanks.
Great build mate is all that photo etch come with kit or did you buy extras?
Hi Johnathan all the photo etch parts came as standard with the kit mate
Nice job John :)
thank you for your support as always tomasz
@@Johnbuildsiconic Because always to nice watching you with your builds :)
Say John what kind of glue do you use for gluing down the hand rails and shields , I am having a hard time gluing them to the surface of the USS Texas kit , the glue sticks to every everything but what I want it to .
hi jerry. for all the photo etch parts i used a glue called,Flexy 5k CA, xt thin. hope this helps
@@Johnbuildsiconic Thanks John , I checked Amazon and they do not have it , Have you got a link for it somewhere else ?
Nice work but I think you have created a nightmare of masking if you plan to paint this. How are you going to paint the deck?
Hi globe thank you for your comment. I will have a part 2 to this build, painting the Texas. My plan is to paint the deck first then dry brush the deck colour in maybe 3 layers to build up the colours then weather it
Hope you’re gonna to a paint and weathering finale video... I have this kit and it looks great!
Hi Justin. Yes I’m making a finished painting video, I’ve just ordered a new airbrush. So I will start painting soon
I do love the Texas, but the amount of photoetch has kept me away from this model. I just don't like working with PE when I can avoid it
Hi Sergei. This was just the PE that comes standard with the kit. With the upgrade photoetch sets there is 100s of extra PE parts
@@Johnbuildsiconic Oh I believe it. I just prefer working with plastic. PE never bends right for me, and even when I do get it to bend, I can never get it to look quite right. If they made a 1/350 or larger model of the Texas without any PE whatsoever, I would be one of the first in line to get and build her lol
Has anyone tried using the Pontos kit for the Texas? I bought it mostly because of the planking but I have had a wretched time with that in that the plastic film is on top of the planking so when you peel the plastic off the sticky stuff is on TOP of the planking. If one applied that to the deck the planking would be on bottom and on top a sort of greenish material would be on top. Clearly something is wrong. I've never dealt with decking before but I don't see any fix at all to this. I tried contacting the folks at Pontos but because of communication issues (my Korean sucks) I don't seem to be able to make them understand the issue. I have lived less than 20 miles from where the Battleship is anchored outside of Houston, Texas at the San Jacinto Battleground. The only surviving Battleship in the world that fought in both World Wars - built in 1912 - 108 years old! I'd appreciate any input anyone might have
excellent build once again loving the tips like dowels and square pieces of wood if possible can you turn your volume up as i have a hearing problem and find sometimes hard to hear thanks 👍👍👍
Hey john, great build that, well as one of our favourite channels has built the Bismarck and is now building the Hood, how about the Arizona?
The Sean. The Arizona would make a great build, 1/200 or 1/350 scale ??
John Builds Iconic Military Models obviously 1/200 but It is considerably more than the 1/350 so it’s your call 😁😁😁
I found the 1/350 scale very testing on the eyes. So I was looking at a 1/200 scale next. Plus it keeps in line with my victory and the Yamato scale.
John Builds Iconic Military Models It would be testing on my patience, let alone my eyes 😂😂😂
Very true I used the f bomb more in this build. mostly on the PE parts then any other build I’ve done 😂
I was on her today! last day open in the San Jacinto area, she will move for repairs and then for a new home.
Awesome video and cool build!
I’m really pleased the Texas is being saved for future generations
i need to find me somebody who can build this for me when and if i get one ... nice models and shaky hands dont mix
Hi Brian. It’s very hard to put a price on a model builders work. The models would never be worth in value all the time and effort that’s goes into the building
@@Johnbuildsiconic i can see that it cant take that long to build it though, i was talking about just the model not paining call me nuts i like the raw look
Круто!
Thank you
one of my favorite models I built.
It’s a fantastic model John
Exactly what brand of CA glue do you use I've tried different brands and don't have the adhesion of parts that you evidently are achieving. Do you do anything extra to those parts to achieve successful installation
HE liked you comment, but never answered your comment. How odd.
Go too 6.32 in the video. I show a screenshot of the glue. And talk about the glue I’m using. What’s odd about that’s. it’s clearly in the video
I see P.e I subscribe :D nice build mate
Thank you mate
Good video, but you forgot the maindeckrelling :/ according to the buildplan
Hi arturius. Thank you for your comment, I left the deck railing off. And will be added after the painting is finished
Very Nice! Most informative. A couple of questions if you don't mind. What type of plastic glue are you using with the paint brush? How do you fold the part PE-D1?
hi randy, the glue i used to make to texas was tamiya extra thin, and all of the PE parts i folded using long nose pliers
@@Johnbuildsiconic Thanks. I guess I did not ask question #2 correctly. Yes I have the tools. I meant the instructions are not clear to me on which way to fold PE-D1 to make the shape shown.
Hi randy. It’s very hard to explain in text, I’m going to make a video showing how to work and fold PE parts on my next battleship video.
Hi again John , what happens if you loose a couple of small plastic parts of the tree ?
Hi Jerry. If the part is important. You may have to make the part from scratch
If it's an identical part to the one you still have (Often there's a few of the same guns etc.) You can use a mold making and resin casting kit you can grab from most hobby stores to cast a new one. Option 2 would be to see if those parts have a version in an aftermarket upgrade pack like say Eduard's parts kits. Option 3 if it's a really non obvious piece you could skip it altogether and get creative for what goes in it's place but you will for sure lose some authenticity to the build, no biggie if it's a Shelf item not a contest entry.
I love watching you work on the wooden models. I've seen all of your videos. I'd like to ask you why you choose to use a paint brush for applying the glue
Hi Mikel, because the glue levels had dropped very low inside the bottle , and I couldn’t reach it with the bottle glue brush, so I needed a longer brush, and have loads of the blue paint brushers
Thanks for the reply , don't really know why I didn't think of that. Lol
@@mikelritchjr5911 I’m full of useless information
Great build! Gonna be a nightmare to paint now that it's all together ;) The PE really makes the model POP!
Thank you, have you seen part 2 painting the USS Texas
Love the ship builds, maybe you could do the 1/350 Prinz Eugen that would be awsome
That would be a good idea William. I would like to add a German navy ship to my collection
Looks great👌But i really like to know how to paint a ship with all of these things after it is done🤔?¿ The riggings might possible to do after it is done
But the fine details ...However,it looks great with photoedge,so this could be a Ace King...without painting.
However many way leads to rome..
Im building ships (plastic modells) for over 39 years by now with a long break inbetween cause i'm a musician..
But i always paint things before, like the hull and so on.

Superb work 👍
Thank you my friend
Great build, Would love to see you tackle a 1/200 Missouri or Bismark next
Thanks bdubzz. I’m looking at a 1/200 scale for my next build. And I need both of them ships for my collection
Great work John , photo etch certainly makes it sing but it would kill me . Big fan of Bismarck got the 350 Tamiya so like to see that and KGV built.
Hi Steve. I know what you mean. I had more eye stain in this build. Then all of my others build put together. But Im still going to make some more think I need a Bismarck in the collection
Loved it. Subbed.
Thank you bob. Part 2 Painting the Texas will be out soon
John Builds Iconic Military Models : looking forward to it.
Any ideas what battleship you would like to see built next ??
John Builds Iconic Military Models have you done the Bismarck yet? Probably a silly question. 🤣😂 You pick, you have to build it. I’m thinking of building a 1/200 WW ll ship but they are ridiculous in price now.
A super detail kit adds about 200 dollars to this model's cost, but it's worth it. Awesome ship!

I have so many questions!! As someone who works with metal models, I must ask, do these puzzles look easier or harder than it looks on video? What kind of glue do you use? Are there metal pieces involved? Are there instructions to these kind of models?
Hi the building always look easier on videos. All the mistakes are normally cut in the editing. Most of the PE parts come with every good instructions
@@Johnbuildsiconic People keep asking about the glue and you keep right on not answering.
@@formerblueangel Because it's basic modelling glue like Tamiya extra thin, why so overboard on a self answering question? Think first!

Hi ray, no mate all the PE part came as standard with this kit, with a great price of £65
Amazing vid 👍👍💞💞
Thank you eddy, I really enjoyed making this build
Hey John! Fantastic, clear, straight-forward build and explanations of what your doing during the build. I do have a rather pertinent question for you: what is the Dremel-like tool you use on the plastic parts where the P/E is to be attached? I assume it's some sort of simple bit (which I would like to see), to slightly roughen up the plastic to better receive and hold onto the super glue.. I'd also like to know what viscosity or "thinness level;" your using in your CA. In America we have what we call, thick, regular, thin and ultra thin. The thinner it is, the harder to control it's placement. I also noted you do not use "kicker" or instant set spray. Why? What type of model glue are you applying to plastic on plastic parts? Do you have some sort of sgrouded container to keep the glue from evaporating as it sits on the workbench? Our liquid-glue (like water) evaporates very quickly if left uncovered. How do you clean your plastic to plastic application brushes? Lastly, and I can't stress this enough, YOUR VIDEO WAS THE FIRST OF MANY I LABORED THROUGH TO LOGICALLY LAY OUT AND EXPLAIN THE ENTIRE P/E PROCESS. As they say in the US Navy: WELL DONE! I look forward to watching all your videos and supporting your channel!
He appears to be using regular Plastic weld glue Like Tamiya extra thin (Has a capillary action for traveling down the joints) Photo Etch is glued using every day CA glue. Most Hobby shops sell the Instabond brand which is really good stuff if a tad costlier than bargain bin Super glue. He may be using different brand names than I mentioned but those are the most common brands used.
What an excellent build! I’m fairly new to modeling and am building the 1/350 USS Buchanan. Super challenging, but like you said, quite a relaxing process.
Hi Rick thank you for the comment, ye the only part of the build that was stressful was fitting the PE railings
I would love to see Gneisenau with a twist, with her proposed 380 mm refit
Thank you Andres. I will do my research into that, do you have any links I can look into,
i ll try to get more sites that can help
Thank you
www.modelshipgallery.com/gallery/dio/dkm/gneisenau-700-cm/cm-index.html
The information that is known is that they were going to give her 380 mm guns and elongate the bow by a fraction i wage less than 10 meters
You dodged a significant bullet by not painting, as trumpy's ship painting colors are almost entirely imaginary.
The model builds up well enough--form the hudreds of times I've been on those decks. So, the subject is near and dear.
Hi. Do you know where I can get a accurate colour scheme for the Texas, as I do intend on painting her
@@Johnbuildsiconic 1st best place is the wiki page for USN Naval camouflage Measures. Good technical read. Color chips, too.
Colour Coats out of UK has an exact match set; and there are 2 AK sets for early & late USN.
As the kit stands, you can do Normandy in Measure 22, or Iwo in Measure 21
Since you have built everything, I'd recommend Meas. 21, All Over Blue.. This uses a blue-black almost nearly the same as used on USN aircraft on all verticals, and Deck Blue 20-B on all horizontal surfaces. This is not an easy task as Navy Blue 5-N is only about one shade different from 20-B. (The signalman decks had russet linoleum, and pure-shadow overhangs were Pure White). But, that's a lot less masking than Meas 22
Meas. 22 is 5-N Navy blue to lowest part of the sheer and parallel to horizon. Then 5-H Haze Gray on all vertical surfaces, with 20-B Deck blue on all horizontal surfaces (which includes turret and barrel tops down to 3" guns). The 5"/50swere all-over black; 40mm had mounts following the vert/horiz scheme with black barrels; 20mm were generally 5-H all over except black barrels.
Which would be a ton of masking aroude delicate PE.
Thank you capnmac your really know your stuff, I will try my best. But looking back I don’t think doing a complete full build was the best idea now. But at the start I was just following the colour chart from trumpeter
Lmao you sound like Tommy Shelby, loved the vid!
Thanks, I will take that as a compliment, love the peaky blinders
John Builds Iconic Military Models it was indeed a compliment, hope you hid a few barrels of gin in the hold for Tommy so it makes its way to America!
I Need to put myself in the hold,I need a tour of the battleship in America
John Builds Iconic Military Models better hurry, she’s sinking into the ground and she’s not being well taken care of unfortunately. I was born in Austin, Texas and love this fine ship.
