I don't think the health community isn't being honest about food herbicides, food additives, or prescription medications causing many many health conditions. Why is it that dialysis centers have grown in many many locations over the last 40 years. Dialysis centers truly are becoming a more common health clinic to see. There are over 37 million people in the US alone with kidney disease, and many do not even know that they have it. CKD is considered a silent killer, as symptoms may only appear at kidney failure / end stage kidney disease. There definitely needs to be a shift in the medical field to be more proactive instead of reactive. It will take a village, as they say, to make these changes. But this is why we continue to educate for more changes in early stages and prevention. 💚

Thank you for all the work that you put into this. I was diagnosed with CKD stage 3 about 6 months ago and have been trying to find my way around the correct diet.
I was just diagnosed with stage 3B after having a problem with orthostatic hypotension & sinus tachycardia. I'm LADA diabetic since forever 32 years. Diabetes runs in my family. I had been complaining for a year about being extremely fatigued, leg swelling, feet swelling & no one listened. It wasn't until I was recently hospitalized and the ER doc asked about my leg swelling especially my left leg. It was more swollen than the right. This was my second hospitalization in 9 weeks and my 3rd round of blood tests Where do I go from here? I'm already losing my vision from my diabetes & have 2 brain aneurysms that have to be monitored.

I’m watching on replay. The DASH diet: Low sodium, healthy fats, fruits/vegetables. Increase your Fiber intake, whole grains, deal with sugar. Track your food.
Old school...saturated fats have now generally been accepted as healthy and do not pose any risk to heart health. Also, adequate salt intake is necessary.
Great information given, thank you!! I was just classified as level three CKD last month, my eGFR two numbers were: low 57, high 66. My Creatinine was 1.4, another lab report had my Creatinine at 1.2 two weeks later, no traces of Albumin protein found in the urine,. I have already started on a more plant based diet, adding much more fruits and vegetables and decreasing my animal protein intake. I exercise 5 to 6 days a week, combining aerobics and weight training but I have heard that vigorous exercise may contribute to elevating Creatinine level? Should I discontinue weight training and just stick to just aerobics. God bless you all for the great information you provide!!! James

Don't need any "crash course" from the usual UTube "experts". After my correct self-diagnosis of "Stage 3A" CKD, I have determined that I need to return to a reasonable level of personal self-discipline, perhaps not unlike what I learned from SSgt Gerald Ringler, Sgt Chuck Wiegman, and Cpl Marvin Orte at Parris Island in 1956. At 89, I would still instantly recognize them if they appeared suddenly without advance notice, "darkening the hatch" in front of me. Carry On,
I have been in stage 3a for a really long time I have had 4 primaries since the first comment of oh I see we are dehydrating you a reference to a water pill associated to a bp med I was on. Since then the onlybadvice I have been given is drink more water.
It can be so confusing for sure! There are quite a few places that are still providing outdated guidelines (like avoiding whole grains). Be sure to check your source - are they citing references? Do they have information to back it up? Are they just speaking to personal experience? Many can talk about what worked for *them* but it doesn't mean it will work for you or anyone else.
Edema foot ankle swelling are excellent early indicators of CKD so many people do nothing about this or know that their swelling is probably from weakened kidneys at some level
At any stage, is the function level for ONE kidney or combined BOTH of them. How can you tell if one or the other or both are involved. Can ONE be stage 3 and the other just fine?
My boyfriend lost one kidney to cancer. He's not diabetic, but does have hypertension issues on occasion, which I guess owes to his latest stage 3 chronic kidney disease diagnosis. He's a meat and potatoes kind of guy and hates the idea of going vegan (we're both omnivores at heart and I'm pre-diabetic (although I'm working on my diet and weight reduction as we speak through exercise). Do you have any ideas?
Earlier stages are often missed or just not seen because it is still a high enough kidney filtration rate that the body is fine. Additionally, there are some considerations like age and hydration status that can impact labs. A doctor needs a few tests before a CKD diagnosis can be confirmed- it won't be from just one result.
I am stage 3 with a creatinine of 1.3 and a GFR of 44, other labs are normal, non diabetic, no high BP, have high cholesterol and taking atorvastatin with CQ 10, I am obese and just started walking, my doctor told me i did not need a diet restriction of any kind or need to drink more water, would the DASH diet without potassium and phosphorus restrictions be ok for me?
We can't give personalized recommendations here. We do recommend a low-sodium diet for most everyone. Potassium and phosphorus restrictions are depending on individual situations. Healthy fats are fats with monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats. Some examples include avocado, canola, and olive oil. Unhealthy fats are trans fats and saturated fats. Examples can include butter and lard. Coconut oil is also high in saturated fat, but in some cases we still say this kind can be okay as it doesn't raise LDL (bad cholesterol) like butter (research: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9132222/)
That will depend on your physician. Generally, we see labs drawn anywhere from monthly to yearly. The more frequently they get done, there should be a plan in place to see what is changing.
