Sweden, Sweden, Sweden, what talents you create! What is it with this little country in the North? Answer: one of their treasures is / has been that they have a natural aptitude for singing and for music in general. It is in their genes. See for example "allsång på Skansen", Stockholm, where they meet and sing together once a week in the summertime. ABBA was one of the very first artists to be known outside of Scandinavia. A big hug from Norway, neighbour of Sweden.
In the Winner Takes All Agnetha's feelings were so true as her and Bjorn were just going through the divorce. He wrote, i think, what they both felt but mostly her. Who was the winner in that break up is hard to tell as he gave her custody of the kids and moved to England with his new wife. Linda, her daughter was 5 I think and Christian 1 year old. A single mom raising two young kids. She did a darn good job as music was second to been a mother to her. Her not wanting to tour and staying with the kids instead if nannies plus her bouts with depression and other emotional issues took a toll in their marriage. He did not understand. He made a statement the other day..."at the time I did not understand"...not too many people understood people's eemotional issues. After a lot of counseling she has not overcome all of it completely.she I think Bjorn was the love of her life. You should listen to some of her solos. Lots of great songs in all of her solo albums in English. Cant say about all the songs she had prior to Abba in Swedish as I dont understand them but she is a great singer, composer, piano player, actress, producer, etc., wonderful mother above all.
Some birdie told "these songs were recorded 47/46/42 years ago!"...i said "sorry i didn't notice"...Still sound gloriously huge n fresh.Nice reaction.HNY Dude!
As a baby gayling in the early 90s I discovered ABBA from a vhs tape of their videos, so for me the visuals always go with the amazing music. Not many 70s artists did videos, Kate Bush was the pioneer, but ABBA we're a whole vibe that still feels good 30 yrs later
Agnetha didn’t like going on tours as she would rather spend more time with her kids and she also suffered from fear of flying. As a workaround ABBA recorded videos of most of their songs and distributed them to tv stations around the world. Luckily they were friends with Lasse Hallström, an aspiring movie director, who made the videos on a shoe string budget. He later moved on to Hollywood, directing films like Cider House Rules, Chocolat and What’s Eating Gilbert Grape.
I’m not old enough to remember when they were big. First discovered them in maybe 5th grade when a music teacher had us sing ”SOS” around the time the ”ABBA Gold” greatest hits album had been released. I listened to it all the time even though I didn’t understand much of the lyrics (just started to learn English in 4th grade). I don’t think my parents were big ABBA fans. Apparently in Sweden in the 70s it wasn’t cool to like ABBA because they were ”too commercial” (they’re the same generation as the counter culture of the 60s and 70s). I still love them and was happy to hear their new music this year (favorites of the new songs are ”Don’t Shut Me Down” and ”I Can Be That Woman Now”).
I've been watching your playlist for the last two years I think that you made 6 ABBA videos: Waterloo (1974) Fernando & Dancing Queen (1976), Take a chance on me (1978) Chiquitita & Voulez Vous (1979) With these four together you now complete 10 ABBA songs: Mamma Mia (1975) Money Money Money & Knowing me knowing you (1976/77) The winner takes it all (1980) I'm surprised you didn't react to ABBA's new songs in 2021 You may not know it, but ABBA returned to the recording studio after almost 40 years and recorded a new album "Voyage" in last November that is a worldwide success Now At more than 70 years of age ABBA surprised the world with their unexpected reunion and the extraordinary quality of their songs I suggest you listen and react "Don't shut me down" (2021)
As far as I'm concerned Knowing Me Knowing You is the best song they ever did. Killer Vocals, Killer Lyrics, Killer Melody, it's just got everything & that's all there is to it.
I was a little too young to enjoy the heyday of ABBA, I caught them near the end... but they were still fantastic. All I have is a hazy childhood memory of four Swedish popstars that wrote very catchy songs. All four of these are shining GEMS. They were definately a mix of 70s disco on one hand and beautifully heartfelt ballads on the other. What is not to like about Abba ? ❤❤
Same. I was only old enough to get an album bought for me when Super Trouper came out. I played that album over and over, Christmas 1980. Coincidentally, one of my favourite tracks was Happy New Year! Make it a good one :)
How did they manage to make break-up so fun? Most Abba songs are tinged with sadness, no matter how upbeat they sound. Even Dancing Queen has a dark side. Money Money Money is very dark. It's filmed in a dark studio, and Frida's solos have an almost desperate sound to them. It sounds chirpy, but it's a song of desperation. I love Frida's accent when she sings "All the things I could do". It's the first song of Abba's that I ever really got into, and here, 45 years later, I still love it. I'm so glad you liked it. The Winner takes it all is one of Abba's best known, and I'm surprised that you hadn't heard it before. Try listening to it after a break up and when you've had a few glasses of wine. I hope you continue to react to Abba. I've subscribed tonight, and look forward to hear your views on their whole collection. And to continue your gambling reference addiction, you could try The Name of the Game, Take a Chance on Me or I have a Dream.
It just came to me that you'd probably really like the darkness of "The Day Before You Came" - Agnetha gets lead vocals and it's production is haunting. It was one of Abba's last 80s songs, released after The Visitors, so it was never included on that final 1981 album. I think it was released as a Maxi-Single with Under Attack if memory serves.
The first time listening to Abba was on radio with the song "Honey, Honey". Got invited to a Christmas party in the late 70s & the family bought their first Abba album. The group was not popular in N. America compared to the Bee Gees. Only after the Abba musical and the movie came out 4 decades later people started to like their music. The first big hit was "Waterloo" which was the winning song in the 1974 Eurovision song contest. The first & last country to embrace the music of Abba is Australia. 5 decades after the group & the 2 couples broke up, they got back together for recording the album "Voyage". The way they wrote music was not to follow trends in NY, London or elsewhere. They would go to their island retreat, lock themselves up in a room and try a few idea. Most of the time Benny on piano & Björn on guitar. When they got something, they would head to the studio in Stockholm and record the song.
You can thank the Australian music show Countdown and its Aussie legend host Molly Meldrum for Mamma Mia. It spent 10 straight weeks at number 1. Abba and their management weren't even considering it for single release until Australia happened.
You gotta watch the film 'Muriel's Wedding'. Abba songs feature prominently. It's also Toni Collette's first starring role so it's win-win. BTW the videos have such a strong signature because they were directed by Lasse Hallstrom who went on to be a movie director. His films include 'My Life as a Dog', ' The Cider House Rules', and 'Whats Eating Gilbert Grape' (apparantly he must only direct films with awesome titles). He's even been Oscar nominated a few times.
Agnetha's release in 2013 ' When you really love someone' is a wonderful gem. Her voice has managed to get deeper and so much richer if that is at all possible. Love you to check that one out.
You would like "When All Is Said and Done". Anni-Frid gets lead vocals. Whilst I love Agnetha's voice, it's impeccable - my ear always finds Frida's voice in the mix. I must naturally prefer her slightly lower range. Another absolutely great Abba song is "Move On" from 1977s THE ALBUM. It was never a single, but should have been. If you're ever down in the dumps, it's really life-affirming and uplifting. It also has very "World Music" production, especially the pan-pipes and yodel at the end, which is my personal favourite ad-lib.
@@sarablack2547 I do agree with you about Frida getting somewhat overlooked by the cameramen and press at the time, but alot of that is due to the era. It's not Agnetha's fault, I'm sure she didn't court it, but her blondeness was very much in vogue - there were many high profile blondes getting a lot of attention during those years: Farrah Fawcett (70s Charlies Angels), Cybill Shepherd, Goldie Hawn, Jerry Hall and later on, Deborah Harry, then Christie Brinkley. Frida also seemed to favour a harder make-up design in the late 70s, with more punky hair into the 80s which wasn't always flattering, this might also have had something to do with it - I don't know. Both Agnetha and Anni-Frid were and still are attractive women, but in very different ways. (In the same way that Benny and Bjorn are both quite distinct from one and other in the looks department too.) When I look at classic pictures of Frida, I'm reminded of the actress Joanna Cassidy, who starred in Blade Runner (1982) as Zhora and Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988) as Dolores. All four of them have incredible talents and Abba's back catalogue (plus Voyage) is testament to that.

Funny, you just referenced a tune I was listening to an hr ago. "Move On". Amazing song to help lift the emotional spirit. I do love how they harmonize perfectly and how one always compliments the other. I'm an Agnetha lover, but without Frida it couldn't be the same. Wanted to add "gimme gimme gimme" to the list. Happy ABBA ing
‘Money, Money, Money’ was probably the first song I heard of ABBA as a kid, and I couldn’t hear it enough, mainly because I didn’t have a record player at the time so couldn’t have the single haha. It’s so damn good. It’s so much fun.
Love me some ABBA! Their music have always been played a lot in Sweden so as a Swede it is a bit hard to be neutral on them. They've just always been there in my life. They were there when I grew up, I sang their songs in school choirs and I've played their music in orchestras. Thank you for the reaction!
So excited you're going down the ABBA rabbit hole. They have so many songs I could recommend, but you'll get to them all, I'm sure. If you've seen "Priscilla, Queen of the Desert", you'll recall the opening when the two are dressed as Agnetha and Anni-Frid (Frida), the two A's in ABBA, lip-syncing "Mama Mia". If you haven't seen the movie, stream it now. You won't be disappointed. Happy New Year!!
love priscilla!i have the sound track on cd you know cause it's from when people bought cd's lol.talking about this is giving me deja vu i'm pretty sure i recommended this film before.it's fun to see them in drag when i know terance stamp from playing general zod in the original superman, guy pearce with kylie in neighbours and hugo weaving in the matrix movies.
@@sarablack2547 I love Terence Stamp in Priscilla, it gives his whole career a roundness which is super admirable , hilarious, powerful and just awesome and what a character ~ Bernice !!

Eagle is my high-school era favourite . I've loved ABBA since I can remember, I had them on cassette and used to sing along into the mic! ABBA Gold was the first new release cassette I bought (when I was 8-9yo) but realistically I've known and loved the "girls'" voices since I was in utero... They mean a lot to me and I feel related, it's been full on at times, but a joy this past year getting amped up for Voyage and what happened next/ the last 4 months were amazing ~! So much love WORLDWIDE .
Yay I got so happy when I saw you did this! I'm a younger ABBA fan, I'm 20, and love them so much. They bring me so much joy. I'm also Swedish so they're very close to my heart. "Knowing Me, Knowing You" is my favorite ABBA song I think, but they're all brilliant! Their songs can make you so happy, but many are also deeply touching. I also love their videos, they're so simple but unique. I love how they always look into the camera and they express so much emotion, and the thing they're doing with the different angles and stuff is so iconic. They're so talented and so special. Also, listening to their song "Happy New Year" is a MUST on New Years Eve! You still have time, DO IT!
Tar det på svenska. Lite äldre än dig men gillar också deras musikvideos och älskar att se dessa reactions när folk i andra länder upptäcker Abbas briljans :)
♥ ABBA - BTW a lot of their videos were made by guy who would go on to become a well known director: Lasse Hallström (Chocolat/Cider House Rules) Can we talk bout how impeccable the girls look on Knowing me Knowing You & Money Money Money! ♥ The Winner Takes It All is a masterpiece! ♥
LOVE THAT THE YOUNGER GENERATION, ALSO GET TO ENJOY, THE GREATEST MUSIC EVER RECORDED. I WAS 8 YEARS OLD, WHEN I SAW THEM WIN THE E.S.C. IN 1974. HAVE A GO AT: AS GOOD AS NEW 🤩🤩🤩🤩
I thought it was amazing and incredibly professional, how they dealt with their divorces and created beautiful music together. I loved Abba when I was young. You can't beat Dancing Queen for filling the floor with women on a girls' night out, or "hen do"!
What a way to end the year. My favorite 4 video post of the year! Love ABBA and all four are among my favorites, especially the more melancholy ones. Thanks for a great year and here’s to 2022 being even better. Thank you and Happy New Year.
I'll tell you what, "Mammy Mia the movie" is really good! How they were able to take a bunch of ABBA songs and weave them into a story was really cool!
I'm glad younger people love ABBA'S music , it was amazing hearing them when it was all first released ,and everyone always commented about how beautiful the girls voices go together, no one has come close to what ABBA have done ,regarding writing and musical, vocal talent .
Happy new year! Great to see Abba on your channel. Like many fans, TWTIA is my all time fav. Agnetha’s vocals are sublime and the outro is wonderful. Highly recommend you check out The Day before you came, The Visitors, and Super trouper
Just like the Dude, I also like ABBA very much, and in my mind, one of the biggest band of all time. With does 4 song I think you have heard about 10, and if I should put them in numbers, then my Top 6 would be: 1. Fernando, 2. The winner takes it all, 3. Dancing Queen, 4. Chiquitita, 5. Take a chance on me, 6. Waterloo. Other great numbers by them, in my mind is, Super Trouper - I Have A Dream - Happy New Year - Thank You For The Music - SOS - One Of Us -Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! - The Name Of The Game - When I Kissed The Teacher - Ring, Ring - Honey, Honey.
"Mamma mia" my fav ❤️ 🙌 🙌 I discover this one in an Australian movie "priscilla, folle du désert" (I dont remember the title in english / us langage, sorry), very funny movie 🤣🤣🤣 I recommand you ✌️ 😁) "The winner takes it all", j'adore ❤️🙌 🙌 "Money money" I love the instrumentation, awesome 👏👏👏 Bonjour de France 🇫🇷 👋🙂
Loved this, thank you. Love ABBA, there are honestly no bad songs, so it's really hard to pick favourites, but 'Chiquitita' is right up there for me. You could listen to anything though, and be guaranteed to love it.
What gets me is that ABBA were two married couples, who were both going through a split when they wrote and performed most of these songs. And thanks for showing me I needed an ABBA fix, cheers.
The music of ABBA is beautiful, and so are your reactions as well! This wonderful sound, those epic lyrics, it's all so real, like that sparkling disco ball, and at the same time; dreamy: As only true love can be ... 🖤🖤🖤🖤
Awesome review! There's something magical about "The Winner Takes It All" - I was a little kid when it came out and had no life experience to relate to the content, yet it was one of my favorite songs.
Happy New Year to you and your viewers. You are a shining beacon of positivity. Love all your reactions. Look forward to bigger, and better things next year. You ARE unique. Greetings from Manchester UK x
Few people know that most of ABBA's videos were directed by Lasse Hallström, who directed the movie The Cider House Rules (1990) which won two Oscars (Best Actor in a Supporting Role; Michael Caine and Best Adapted Screenplay)
And do not forget that ABBA don't even sing in their native language, how impressive is that!? Imagine yourself singing in an unfamiliar language all the time, and that immaculate.. ày? Chapeau to the girls for that as well 😍
LOL, "How do they manage to make break ups so fun" 😂 So true. They are brilliant in the uplifting and yet making you emotional at the same time, it is some sort of magic
The thing with "Knowing Me, Knowing You" is...if you dissected it down and just heard each part in the chorus you would hear sooooo many layers, example: Agnetha is singing "Breaking up is never easy I know" very high, where Frida is singing the same line in a lower register with different notations, at the same time the guys are singing as well....it's worth listening to if you ever get the chance , but this girl does an AMAZING job of demonstrating it and performing it....here's the link, it's actually baffling: ua-cam.com/video/xlYwUESaAOA/v-deo.html
This was Benny's experiment with French chanson style, so successful that Mireille Mathieu recorded a VERY French cover of it in ABBA's Stockholm studio. Check it out: "Bravo, tu as gagné"
I have been watching all of your compilations with great interest. If you want a challenge for your artistic music video proclivity I recommend David Bowie, he is the artist with some of the most original music videos. His style inspired everyone you like and know, and he was vastly ahead of his time. So many different looks, styles, sounds, and theatrics (he even does drag). Ask and I will give you a list of the most interesting videos. Cheers mate PS. Prince and Billy Idol are also good picks.

"The day before you came" is a Hauntingly beautiful Masterpiece ♥

I think that you made 6 ABBA videos:
Waterloo (1974)
Fernando & Dancing Queen (1976),
Take a chance on me (1978)
Chiquitita & Voulez Vous (1979)
With these four together you now complete 10 ABBA songs:
Mamma Mia (1975)
Money Money Money &
Knowing me knowing you (1976/77)
The winner takes it all (1980)
I'm surprised you didn't react to ABBA's new songs in 2021

The Name of the Game and The Day Before You Came are masterpiece s
@@aperinich yes it's another character to add or tick off a list of different people you can play be.i love that the queen's are at different stages in their life career.the older one who's been there done it queen, the established but not past it yet queen and the up and coming queen.
their last album `" the visitors " is for me the best album. 80´s all the way but so dark and deep but also beautiful. try that one you´ll love it
For a completely different yet beautiful ABBA tune try their song “Eagle” next, a timeless banger!
I love abba because my dad always play it every morning when i kid 😃 now i miss my dad ☹
ABBA is everyone’s guilty pleasure. Solid songwriting. Fantastic vocals.
Pancake should do a review of the iconic Aussie film "MURIEL'S WEDDING" 👰 Muriel lives her crazy life to an ABBA soundtrack 🎵🎼🎶
Great film!
YES!
And then watch Priscilla (if you haven’t already seen it).
Yes Muriel’s wedding. A classic with classic music.
Yes great fun movie but quite dark in parts
I love, thanks so much for doing a sampling of ABBA tracks, they were terrific ones too!
Thank you for watching! 😊
Abba is Magic ✨ period .. check out the new album called Voyage the first album since 1982 almost 40 years
Yay I got so happy when I saw you did this!
Thank you so much for watching!!
i’m 20 too and it’s also my favorite abba song!!
Tar det på svenska. Lite äldre än dig men gillar också deras musikvideos och älskar att se dessa reactions när folk i andra länder upptäcker Abbas briljans :)
Funny how they are singing about money they are worth $300 million EACH if not more!
♥ ABBA - BTW a lot of their videos were made by guy who would go on to become a well known director: Lasse Hallström (Chocolat/Cider House Rules)
Can we talk bout how impeccable the girls look on Knowing me Knowing You & Money Money Money!
This song was made years before they divorced. Not about their marriage
What a great way to start the New Year thank you
Thank you for watching!
What a way to end the year. My favorite 4 video post of the year! Love ABBA and all four are among my favorites, especially the more melancholy ones. Thanks for a great year and here’s to 2022 being even better. Thank you and Happy New Year.
Thank you for watching!
My favorite Abba song is Dancing Queen.
These two women…my icons. Add Kate Bush and that’s my royalty right there❤️
Also, Happy New Year! ❤️ (Also, check out their song ”Happy New Year”)
Same to you!!
@@PancakeMarshmallowDude Thanks, one of the cutest guys on UA-cam 🙂🙈
I was there it was fantastic.. the feeling in their songs when late in the night on the dance floor in the disco was a cryer or jubilant..
Happy new year! Great to see Abba on your channel. Like many fans, TWTIA is my all time fav. Agnetha’s vocals are sublime and the outro is wonderful. Highly recommend you check out The Day before you came, The Visitors, and Super trouper
What a way to start 2022!
Just like the Dude, I also like ABBA very much, and in my mind, one of the biggest band of all time.
With does 4 song I think you have heard about 10, and if I should put them in numbers, then my Top 6 would be:
"Mamma mia" my fav ❤️ 🙌 🙌 I discover this one in an Australian movie "priscilla, folle du désert" (I dont remember the title in english / us langage, sorry), very funny movie 🤣🤣🤣 I recommand you ✌️ 😁)
"The winner takes it all", j'adore ❤️🙌 🙌
"Money money" I love the instrumentation, awesome 👏👏👏
Bonjour de France 🇫🇷 👋🙂
More ABBA reactions
Enjoyed this one ! My childhood friend and I would have hair brushes doing our ABBA songs. Happy New Year from UK 🥳
Happy New Year!! Thanks for watching!! 😊
Every song is epic ! Beautiful reaction from a beautiful man 💖
Thank you so much! ❤
Oh my young man....Welcome down the rabbit hole! Happy New Year from Canada 🇨🇦
Happy New Year!
Love ABBA and your videos!
Oh and happy new year!
When I listen to STEPS, I am reminded of ABBA!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE THEM BOTH!!!❤❤❤
Frida was my crush growing up - oh my, she's so hot :) and a wonderful singer x. I love all of ABBA tho. Thanks again xx
Thanks for watching!
I have come to believe that everyone eventually falls in love with Agnethe.
Great writers 👏
Loved this, thank you. Love ABBA, there are honestly no bad songs, so it's really hard to pick favourites, but 'Chiquitita' is right up there for me. You could listen to anything though, and be guaranteed to love it.
The winner takes it all ❤️
What gets me is that ABBA were two married couples, who were both going through a split when they wrote and performed most of these songs. And thanks for showing me I needed an ABBA fix, cheers.
Thanks for watching!
The music of ABBA is beautiful, and so are your reactions as well! This wonderful sound, those epic lyrics, it's all so real, like that sparkling disco ball, and at the same time; dreamy: As only true love can be ... 🖤🖤🖤🖤
Thank you so much!
Awesome review! There's something magical about "The Winner Takes It All" - I was a little kid when it came out and had no life experience to relate to the content, yet it was one of my favorite songs.
Thank you so much for watching!
@@PancakeMarshmallowDude My pleasure! Love your videos :)
Please do more of their videos! So many different but amazing ones.
And Happy New Year!
Same to you!
Happy New Year to you and your viewers. You are a shining beacon of positivity. Love all your reactions. Look forward to bigger, and better things next year. You ARE unique. Greetings from Manchester UK x
Thank you so much!!
Few people know that most of ABBA's videos were directed by Lasse Hallström, who directed the movie The Cider House Rules (1990) which won two Oscars (Best Actor in a Supporting Role; Michael Caine and Best Adapted Screenplay)
abba top shelf music.
abba is everything
They used cinematic style of their fellow Swede film maker Ingmar Bergman.
And do not forget that ABBA don't even sing in their native language, how impressive is that!?
Imagine yourself singing in an unfamiliar language all the time, and that immaculate.. ày? Chapeau to the girls for that as well 😍
It’s a very sad song. Abba will have to be the best pop group around.no other groups could ever get close to it.
10:14 Divine choreography! :)
My all-time favourite from ABBA is "Lay All Your Love On me".
LOL, "How do they manage to make break ups so fun" 😂 So true. They are brilliant in the uplifting and yet making you emotional at the same time, it is some sort of magic
Great reactions!! New to your channel!
Love to see your reactions to the new ABBA songs; 40 years on!! Big Hugs 💖
Son magicos!! Nada mas y nada menos!!
Masters of their trade ♥
These videos and songs are brilliant.
This was Benny's experiment with French chanson style, so successful that Mireille Mathieu recorded a VERY French cover of it in ABBA's Stockholm studio. Check it out: "Bravo, tu as gagné"
I’m old and have loved them since the 70’s. Great reaction video!
Thanks for watching! 😊
Agnetha and Frida are two of the top female vocalists of all time.
The content I needed!!
Cheers mate
PS. Prince and Billy Idol are also good picks.
OMG yes, Bowie is legendary!
I love ABBA and I am reminded of the "wall of sound" effect that was used in the 60s
I like how in their music videos they have side profiles mixed with whole faces and how the focus switches back and forth
