Me: *has numerous large photography books to read for uni, has numerous non-fiction books and novels that I've bought and still haven't read yet and should be saving my student loan* Also me: "I should watch this video to get recommendations of more books I should spend money on..." 😌
Hi Joel! I don’t know if you’ve ever heard about the app We Read Too, but it’s basically an app which was created to help people find books from authors of color with poc characters. It has really great features and I love that I can find books which aren’t as advertised (especially in my country) and so I can support such wonderful authors! I thought you would also like it and you could find there books and fall in love with them❤️
Honestly, Joel, subscribing to your youtube channel has been one of my highlights this year. I've thoroughly enjoyed all your videos and love listening to you talk about books and your opinions.
I'm definitely working on it! I want to try and get a good outline for it done, plus perhaps provide some templates? So it's just when I have a spare moment! ^_^
“Maybe it’s sapphic? Cause it just seems sapphic, to me??” Literally me picking up almost any book!!! Another great video, Joel! I finished The Secret History earlier this week thanks to the Late Night Book Club, and I really enjoyed it!
a note on a gathering of shadows (as i assume you'll read it prior to a conjuring of light) - many people found agos to be slow, because a lot of the book follows a competition and not much actual "action" so to speak, however I found it to be a beautiful book for worldbuilding and "what ifs," and its honestly my favorite book in the trilogy. i hope you end up enjoying agos and acol.
Discovered Darcy Coates by accident and love me a good haunted house story so I'm sort of binge reading her work for October. Also want to get and read When the Dead Speak by Kitty Janusz.
Love your book series binge vlog and I’m so excited for your Shades of Magic one!!!! For future series recommendations, I highly recommend The School for Good and Evil series (6 books). It’s Middle Grade and very fast paced.
i am one of those people who was kind of disappointed in the secret history. i mean i gave it 4 stars but i expected more from it because of the hype. it is donna tartt so the writing style can make up for a lot of things. if you ask me i personally think the goldfinch is better i enjoyed it a lot more and it became one of my favourite books of all time. the secret history has some really really good parts but for me something was missing from it and i couldn't connect with the characters. however it still vividly lives on my mind like anything what tartt writes.
For the horror/thriller book recs you should totally read the A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder series! It’s a YA thriller with multi-media elements and it is SO GOOD.
Aaaah SO excited for you to join our Conjuring of Light Live Show, can’t wait for November 1st!!! And I’m really jealous of your collector’s editions because they’re gorgeous 😍 Also, thank you so much for your support regarding my Etsy shop! ❤️ Seeing you holding my bookmarks means a lot 🥰 I was never really intrigued my The Secret History but now I see everyone reading it again and I’m like... Maybe I should pick it up? 🧐
Those Shades of Magic copies are so beautiful CHRISTMAS HERE I COMMMMEEEEEE!!!!!!! I’m sorry guys I know it’s October but I love Christmas wayyyy more than Halloween😂😂
november is national native american heritage month, atleast here in the U.S, so you could pick up some reads about native/indigenous peoples or authors if you’d like!!
Apart from continuing my read of book 2 in the Daevabad trilogy, I'll be rereading my fav Halloween book ever: House of Salt and Sorrows by Erin A. Craig and I would really recommend that one! Other books I'll try to read or finish this month are : - Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie - The slow regard of silent things by Patrick Rothfuss - Kiki's delivery service by Eiko Kadono - Cemetery Boys (depending on when this order arrives) by Aiden Thomas thanks for your recommendations!
For adult thrillers I recommend all of Riley Sager's books. I know some might suggest Stephen King, but sometimes with him he's a hit or a miss with me, but I know that his older works like Carrie, It, Pet Cemetery, and Salem's Lot were really good and scary or spooky. He also writes big books. Or start with the classics like Dracula, Frankenstein, House on Haunted Hill, Phantom of the Opera, Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde, or Rebecca. This is off the top of my head because I have only come back to reading at the end of last year. Life happened, but am glad to be back reading and am hoping to get back into reading thrillers, but other books recommended to me by you and other booktubers. Enjoy your books! 😊❤️❤️❤️
Hi! Little bit of extra info on Black and British from someone who works at waterstones, if anyone is interested - it was actually requested by teachers and parents that the author make a shorter, easier-to-read version of the larger book so that this can be used in schools! So this is actually a good read for younger readers who are looking to become more informed, as well! In so freaking excited for you adsom reading vlog as well, i qctually have the same collectors adittions as well, because i hated my uk paperback covers 😅 for a series reading vlog next month you should totally read the Broken Earth trilogy by N.K Jemisin, I'm on book 2 and it's honestly one of the best series I've ever read.
Omg I didn’t think anyone else really read Anna Dressed in Blood! I read it in middle school and just recently reread it to see if I’d still love it. I didn’t like it as much as I did before but I still thought it was pretty good! Wasn’t the biggest fan of the sequel tho...
For a mystery thriller I really recommend The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton! It's so clever, and kind of has a fantasy element in it as well. This month I am hopefully going to read The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern and The Subtle Knife by Philip Pullman, but I also have a lot of uni reading to do, so we'll see... (a bit random, but we have the same timetable btw, hahah)
Looking forward to seeing what you think of black and British and if it includes from black welsh ppl too. I want to learn more about BAME in Wales history more than Britain as a whole first 🥰🏴
Fictional Fates Friday is the best! I was very excited to see people of color nonfiction reads on your TBR because I’m reading How to Be Antiracist right now before I get into all the spooky books. I’m not a horror or thriller reader at all but I’m reading Stalking Jack the Ripper and Sadie this month. I’m also very excited for Cemetery Boys, Mooncakes and to re-read Diviners!!
Admittedly i never finished the secret history (i'm just planning to start over at this point) but if we were villains is a totally different tone (it's also my favorite book of all times so i'd love to know what you think if you do end up reading it!)
Also have you read the Starless Sea?(sorry new subscriber haha I will watch your back catalogue soon!) Because I adore your earring! It is such a statement!
I really enjoyed The Secret History but If We Were Villians I enjoyed at lot more it had me sobbing at 2am 😅 I'm reading an eARC of The Burning God right now (save me!!!!) and after I'm gonna read Salem's Lot for a spooky Halloween read!
One of my favourite thriller books is The Tattoo Thief by Alison Belsham ! It's set in Britain (Brighton), has an amazing female lead character and is pretty gruesome - it also has an absolutely gorgeous cover that you'll probably love lol I haven't heard anyone talk about it on booktube before so it would be super exciting if you read it!
I really want to pick up some of those books about PoC from other countries then mine, I get to feel bad but not as bad as normal since I can be pretty sure neither me or my family are complacent in it.
I wanna know what you think of a darker shades of magic bc I’m on a conjuring of light and I’m just kinda meh on the whole series so far, I feel really bad about it bc everyone loves it but if I’m honest I just do not care about any of the characters idk I’m only half way through so maybe It’ll pick up 🤷🏽♀️
I'm planning to read When no one is Watching by Alyssa Cole. She is a black American author who is new to me. A psychological thriller perfect for October. Looking forward to it!
Is it "normal" to be able to read 500 pages a day? I count it as a good day if I get through 50 pages of a book! I do recognize that I'm on the slower side, but 500 a day seems crazy to me!
Love in Colour is amazing, the writing is absolutely beautiful! There may indeed be some sapphic rep in the book 👀 I talked about it in my August wrap up and Mini book haul videos if you wanna check out my thoughts! ❤
When Joel referred to The Secret History as a detective story- that was so funny
Me: *has numerous large photography books to read for uni, has numerous non-fiction books and novels that I've bought and still haven't read yet and should be saving my student loan*
Also me: "I should watch this video to get recommendations of more books I should spend money on..." 😌

Truly!
I wanna buy new books now, but I can *feel* my tbr pile glaring at me.
this is the constant and eternal mood
New books are the best I always want to buy them, I have a whole list of books I want to buy.
Are we going to get a Notion video soon? Ever since you mentioned it I've been very intrigued!
I'm definitely working on it! I want to try and get a good outline for it done, plus perhaps provide some templates? So it's just when I have a spare moment! ^_^
how can i not found your earlier?! oh my god! *SUBSCRIBED
Yesss! The king has posted!!🙌🏻🙌🏻
Thanks for the book recommendations!!! You have such a lovely voice.
I had to pause and rewind and watch you say you can read 500 pages in a day. I can literally only ever dream of achieving that, you are a legend omfg
Me: can't sleep
Joel: posts 2 videos half an hour apart
Me: ☺️🥰♥️
I love how you describe the books, makes me want to read EVERYONE of them! And very unrelated, but your Pikachu in the background is so cute 🥰
I resonate with that Pikachu in the background, only because Joel uploaded
LMAO
“Maybe it’s sapphic? Cause it just seems sapphic, to me??” Literally me picking up almost any book!!! Another great video, Joel! I finished The Secret History earlier this week thanks to the Late Night Book Club, and I really enjoyed it!

Ok but you could be my head canon for Rhy from darker shade.....you have the energy ✨✨
I suggest my sister the serial killer for thrillers! it's a really unique one
Love your book series binge vlog and I’m so excited for your Shades of Magic one!!!!
For future series recommendations, I highly recommend The School for Good and Evil series (6 books). It’s Middle Grade and very fast paced.
The Secret History is one of my favourite books, and Donna Tart one of my favourite writers. I really hope you enjoy it!
Not me watching youtube while doing laundry and getting so excited that joel uploaded✨
omg multi-tasking monarch, we love to see it!
"the bigger the better" -Joel Rochester, 2020
The Shades Of Magic books are just 😭❤️😱😆😭 I don’t even have words anymore (I’m currently reading A Conjuring Of Light)

i just feel like i need to say that you have one of the most beautiful smiles I’ve ever seen...

this, all of it, it just gives me SEROTONIN
I’m curious what you’ll think of The Secret History. I just finished it. It was different than I thought it would be, but overall, I enjoyed it.
the good immigrant is my favourite!!! i’d recommend “it’s not about the burqa” if you’re a fan:)
That tea cup looks so good
I can’t wait to see your thoughts on The Secret history & One by One!! I’ve heard mixed things about TSH, and adult thrillers is my favorite genre 😌
Apart from continuing my read of book 2 in the Daevabad trilogy, I'll be rereading my fav Halloween book ever: House of Salt and Sorrows by Erin A. Craig and I would really recommend that one!

I’m not a horror or thriller reader at all but I’m reading Stalking Jack the Ripper and Sadie this month. I’m also very excited for Cemetery Boys, Mooncakes and to re-read Diviners!!
It looks like you're going to have very exciting reading month!!
Omg you’re Welsh! Love seeing a Welsh booktuber! I totally get what you mean with people not knowing where Wales is 😂
Admittedly i never finished the secret history (i'm just planning to start over at this point) but if we were villains is a totally different tone (it's also my favorite book of all times so i'd love to know what you think if you do end up reading it!)
Also have you read the Starless Sea?(sorry new subscriber haha I will watch your back catalogue soon!) Because I adore your earring! It is such a statement!

I haven't, but I'll definitely note it down!
FIVE HUNDRED PAGES A DAY?!!!?!!!!??!!
One by one sounds so good!

Pret does a great matcha but have oat milk not rice coconut.
I tried it with rice coconut and it was NOT it. I'll definitely ask for oat the next time I go as it's what I usually have it with!
@@fictionalfates no I am not so keen with rice coconut. Try the turmeric also with oat. I'm all into these right now
