To be completely fair to him, he did explain in the video that the vast majority of toggles/switches/knobs/etc. cannot be just twisted around in a different direction. For about 90% of guitars out there you'd have to open up the guitar, disconnect the switch, turn it around, and resolder the wiring. MGK's signature Schechter is unusual (not unique, but unusual) in that regard. This guy doesn't seem incompetent as a guitar store employee from this video, he just didn't do his due diligence in checking all the details before putting the diss out there.

I don't understand the hate towards MGK's rock music specifically. It's definitely not for everyone, and he sure is hell not an AMAZING guitar player, but he's good enough to make catchy riffs that work with the songs he wants to create that blends with that style of music very well, plus he plays pretty well for the most part live in front of thousands which is more than most could say.
Because most guitar players are just self-centred assholes that think they have the best music taste ever and that guitar is the hardest musical instrument ever (it's actually easiest). They only listen to trash genres or genres that are long dead for at least 20 years, sometimes both (metal, classic rock, blues). They're just salty about a pop-singer holding a guitar and at least knowing how to play it.
Well he does have a lead guitarist who writes the leads and MGK mainly sticks to rhythm so he can focus on his vocals. He’s not phenomenal at guitar but it looks more pleasing in this genre and takes talent to do both at the same time (imo).
He’s no guitar legend, he’s a rapper who’s dipping into a more emo/punk sound. I may like Eminem I can’t hate on kells, I grew up listening to them both. It’s super dope to see him playing guitar more in his music. It takes years, hell decades of practice to shred like some folks in the metal world do, you can’t be scared to keep shit simple.

I wouldn't expect him to be able to play a solo because there is a reason why only the greatest of musicians sing while playing guitar because it should be second nature for you to play guitar if your also going to sing. People thinking playing normal bar cords is difficult but playing a solo and making it sound smooth is really difficult.

MGK much like many of the 90's-00's artists is not a *good* guitar player. You can't deny that lol. Even Kurt Cobain wasn't a *good* guitar player. I don't like MGK but in that genre, your job isn't to be good at guitar, it's just to make some noise for an hour or two and then hop off the stage.
Everyone is shitting on his guitar playing as if it’s his main instrument like Travis with drums… he’s a VOCALIST who plays primarily rhythm guitar as it looks better in this genre to be able to do both. While the rifts are not hard it’s not as easy as you’d think doing vocals at the same time. Plus he has a guitarist in his live band who writes the lead rifts. There are so many bands out there that people love like Blink182 just because their rifts are catchy (not technical or challenging); yet since it’s MGK I think people have to go the extra mile to express criticism.. Going from a rapper to an actual singing is already impressive, adding rhythms guitar into the mix along the journey is just a bonus. His albums are selling off of the shelfs like crazy so he’s obviously doing something right that all of the negative people below this post are not doing - hence why he is where he is and those toxic people are where they are with their musical career.
I totally believe he plays his own guitar, nobody would fake being that awful. All he can do is play power chords and the one time I've heard him try to solo it was clear he not only didn't have the dexterity to play lead but didn't understand enough music theory to even be attempting it. Why is the guy running his mouth in the first place? I don't know MGK and he doesn't seem to be a guy I would like, but to assume over a switch he isn't playing live is one of the dumbest thing I ever heard. He seems to work as a guitar tech in some way, this move could cost a lot fo customers. I soldered many guitar electronics (mainly for friends) and there were some realy odd wishes. One wanted for example that the tone knob is changes for the volume knob and vise versa. Later the tone knob was completly removed and replaced with a mute switch, mute was position 'up' so he wouldn't accidentally flip the switch to mute during playing. That was the reason for changing the knob placements he kept rolling the volume knob down during playing.

I used to work in the music industry. 90% of all live music, the guitarist aren't playing. Live music is not supposed to sound exactly like the album. If the live show sounds exactly like the record, it is because you are listening to the record and not a live performance.

To be completely fair to him, he did explain in the video that the vast majority of toggles/switches/knobs/etc. cannot be just twisted around in a different direction. For about 90% of guitars out there you'd have to open up the guitar, disconnect the switch, turn it around, and resolder the wiring. MGK's signature Schechter is unusual (not unique, but unusual) in that regard. This guy doesn't seem incompetent as a guitar store employee from this video, he just didn't do his due diligence in checking all the details before putting the diss out there.

I don't understand the hate towards MGK's rock music specifically. It's definitely not for everyone, and he sure is hell not an AMAZING guitar player, but he's good enough to make catchy riffs that work with the songs he wants to create that blends with that style of music very well, plus he plays pretty well for the most part live in front of thousands which is more than most could say.
Because most guitar players are just self-centred assholes that think they have the best music taste ever and that guitar is the hardest musical instrument ever (it's actually easiest). They only listen to trash genres or genres that are long dead for at least 20 years, sometimes both (metal, classic rock, blues). They're just salty about a pop-singer holding a guitar and at least knowing how to play it.
MGK isnt the best at guitar, as i fan of MGK, he usually plays some really basic rifts, so I wouldnt say he's horrible at guitar, but hes ok.

Well he does have a lead guitarist who writes the leads and MGK mainly sticks to rhythm so he can focus on his vocals. He’s not phenomenal at guitar but it looks more pleasing in this genre and takes talent to do both at the same time (imo).
He’s no guitar legend, he’s a rapper who’s dipping into a more emo/punk sound. I may like Eminem I can’t hate on kells, I grew up listening to them both. It’s super dope to see him playing guitar more in his music. It takes years, hell decades of practice to shred like some folks in the metal world do, you can’t be scared to keep shit simple.

I wouldn't expect him to be able to play a solo because there is a reason why only the greatest of musicians sing while playing guitar because it should be second nature for you to play guitar if your also going to sing. People thinking playing normal bar cords is difficult but playing a solo and making it sound smooth is really difficult.

Everyone is shitting on his guitar playing as if it’s his main instrument like Travis with drums… he’s a VOCALIST who plays primarily rhythm guitar as it looks better in this genre to be able to do both. While the rifts are not hard it’s not as easy as you’d think doing vocals at the same time. Plus he has a guitarist in his live band who writes the lead rifts. There are so many bands out there that people love like Blink182 just because their rifts are catchy (not technical or challenging); yet since it’s MGK I think people have to go the extra mile to express criticism.. Going from a rapper to an actual singing is already impressive, adding rhythms guitar into the mix along the journey is just a bonus. His albums are selling off of the shelfs like crazy so he’s obviously doing something right that all of the negative people below this post are not doing - hence why he is where he is and those toxic people are where they are with their musical career.
I totally believe he plays his own guitar, nobody would fake being that awful. All he can do is play power chords and the one time I've heard him try to solo it was clear he not only didn't have the dexterity to play lead but didn't understand enough music theory to even be attempting it. I don't know MGK and he doesn't seem to be a guy I would like, but to assume over a switch he isn't playing live is one of the dumbest thing I ever heard. He seems to work as a guitar tech in some way, this move could cost a lot fo customers.
I soldered many guitar electronics (mainly for friends) and there were some realy odd wishes. One wanted for example that the tone knob is changes for the volume knob and vise versa. Later the tone knob was completly removed and replaced with a mute switch, mute was position 'up' so he wouldn't accidentally flip the switch to mute during playing. That was the reason for changing the knob placements he kept rolling the volume knob down during playing.

I used to work in the music industry. 90% of all live music, the guitarist aren't playing. Live music is not supposed to sound exactly like the album. If the live show sounds exactly like the record, it is because you are listening to the record and not a live performance.
