I’ve looked for a while trying to figure out how to fix a very large, very heavy Roman blind. I’ve called many places to ask if they did repairs to no avail. I found your video and thought what do I have to lose. I now have a working blind! I can’t thank you enough!! The cost to replace this blind today was unbelievably expensive plus this blind was a special order a long time ago and there was no way to get an exact replacement. Thank you again!

That’s great, thanks for visiting. Cleaning them depends on all the variables of type of fabric, lining, interlining, etc. If I were cleaning the one in my video, I’d use a barely damp, microfibre cloth, but test on an invisible area first.

I was struggling to figure out how I was going to staple my fabric with a staple gun with such a narrow edge...my window sill frame edge beyond the window itself is only 1/2 in. I will do as you've taught, I will velcro it to my 3/4 in by 3/4 in l shaped corner edge mounting board then install it with l brackets into the window, and string it at the window just like you've modeled for us. I'm ready and super excited to give it a go and see it through. My dear spouse works nights and we need a shade behind our blinds!

Great video! I was hoping that you had a video on how you made this Roman Shade but no luck. Being able to fully remove the shade to be able to wash it is what I'm looking for (kids!). Where did you learn how to make this?
Do you know where I can source a blind kit? I have 4 vertical rows of rings. No rings at the top but some plastic things instead - poss to do with self-licking mechanism … no locking plastic things at the bottom - strings are just knotted onto the lowest rings, and there is a single length of cord going down to the pulley handle. I have spare cord already.
The trouble is that the top of my window frame is about 15ft up so I have to do all this on a ladder, and I can’t go round behind the curtain-who can?-to do all that threading. I had to do it without sticking the Velcro in place otherwise I couldn’t see the holes to thread the cords through. I would like to see her extend the video and demonstrate threading the cords through the eyelets from the front of the blind.
Hello Suzy, thanks for watching my video. That’s an interesting conundrum you have there. I’d want to get behind the blind to re-thread it, if it can’t be removed. Sounds as if you need to call a specialist if you don’t feel you can do that… Good luck!
@@makeitdoit5495 I think you may be right, i'm 78 and I have had the ladder in the bath for part of the job but couldn't reach the mechanism end so was standing on the edges of the bath😁🤥🙄🤭🤪
@@ronmac-ff3sx yes you can buy readymade ones in various sizes in the UK. They’re sold with all the kit you’d need to mount it on the wall, so I guess you could buy one and then use your existing kit to attach your new blind material to it. I suggest you ask in a department store, then you can have a look at what the fixings are. Good luck 🤞🏻
Hi, unfortunately it’s not the same as the blind I show. However, if you carefully follow the blind cord in the cartridge, it should be replaceable. Good luck!
Hi, I have four roman blinds which I have just re-corded. I have 8 cords. I cant find a toggle wide enough to fit all the cords through. Is there any way round this?
Hi Michele, you could try a ‘condenser’ which consolidates strings into a plastic or metal assembly to which a smaller pull cord is attached. Good luck and thanks for watching!

Thank you for this. I've just re-strung quite a wide blind with 7 vertical cords. Because i needed to feed them all through the eyelets at the top, I used a slightly narrower cord than you did (I think), but it's still a bit of a squeeze and the blind is therefore a bit 'stiff' to pull up and down. Do you suggest a narrower cord?
Hello, thanks for watching the video. Yes it sounds as if you could do with a narrower cord. You can get 1.2, 1.5 & 2mm depending on the weight of the fabric & therefore the finished blind. Those sizes are probably more commonly used. The reason I chose 3mm for the blind in the video was that it’s a thick, embroidered linen with interlining and lining, so it’s quite heavy. Originally it had about a 2mm cord and that lasted a few years. Try a thinner cord and see how it goes. Well done!

You seem to have used only that extra one on one of the ends, so I assume the one on the other end is just there in case you would like to thread it on the opposite way. Could you confirm if this assumption is correct?
Hi, thanks for your feedback. You’re right, I only use the double screw eye on the side that I have the pull cord. As you say, the other one is there incase I wanted to have the pull cord on the other side - so it isn’t used in this case.

This makes them ideal for use in cord connectors and with cord beakaway connectors - any thicker and threading these connectors is fiddly. Try your cord and see how long it lasts. Even thinner cords are available for sheer blinds where you want them to be less visible, and the weight of the finished blind is minimal. Good luck! 🪡🧵

Hello, thanks for your question. If it’s the toggle I think you’re talking about, press the button on one side. It’s spring loaded. 🤞🏻
