1953 ல் கருணாநிதியால் திமுகவுக்கு கொண்டுவரப்பட்டவர் MGR. 1935ல் சினிமாவில் நுழைந்து 1948 வரை தடுமாறிக்கொண்டிருந்த Mgr கருணாநிதி வசனத்தில் நடித்த பிறகு தான் புகழ் பெற ஆரம்பித்தார். அதன்பின் 1953ல் திமுக வில் சேர்ந்த பிறகு தான் மேலும் புகழ் பெற்றார். திமுக வளர்ச்சிக்கு அண்ணாவும் கலைஞரும் தான் முக்கிய காரணம்.

Even going by your statement, MGR polled very less in 1977 election and secured majority due to 4 way contest. In fact Congress vote bank went in favour of MGR subsequently but Anna and Kalaignar vote bank remained intact with Negligible loss.

Dr. MGR had 3 flop movies Puthiya bhoomi, Kanavan, Kadal vahanam all black and white movies which came after super duper hits of Kavalkaran, Ragasiya Police and Kuduyirundha Koil which were seen 10 to 12 times by his fans. This shows any man wil have ups and downs.. when Sevaliae Shivaji Thillana mohanambal a runaway success with Deiva mahan.. This he noted all because of DMK not ruling properly after death of Anna.. Then started the wheel changing with Adimai Penn to till the last movie made great success.. with one or two below average. This story influenced starting ADMK by him with Rikshakaran put the strong base. Even MGR was making at that time heavy expenses for Adimai Penn, he offered Mr. Murali Maran free acting and Amma jayalalitha did the same to get back Maran's house in big debt .. That was Engal Thangam.. But they forgotten this great help but acted to throw him out due to which Dr. Mgr first started to register his 1000s of fan clubs making them members of his fans club who were also in DMK which put a strong base for starting ADMK.. A thoughtful exercise. This is a small story of Dr. MGR between 1968 and 1977 which I noted.

HE too was mired in scandals and his.admin was riddled with corruption and most of the noon meal scheme workers were party workers . He promised he would promulgate prohibition policy but chickened out. He promised he would no name any buildings or govt services after his name or relatives name, then he forsake it and named transport services to honor his mother. Nothing wrong in it but what he said when was forming the party, he did not implement and Manirathnam in his movie Iruvar, the hypocrisy was conspicuously captured and demonstrated.

Simple answer for MGR fame is people's ignorance. He encashed the ignorance in a huge way. The media and top leaders and others were simply praised his personality in movies without analysing his capability.
This is the truth which majority of the people are not ready to accept.
Simple example. In all his movies his character name never reflect any caste. People believed that he was totally against caste and religion. But the truth was when he founded separate party and facing Dindigul by-election his party candidate name was Maya Thevar. What is Thevar means? Did anyone dare enough to ask this question?
My opinion is as an individual he is a great man. But as a public worker he is big ???????.

This incompetent megalomaniac with his foolish economic policies and lack of administrative skills was actually a disaster for the state.
