Man you take on some pretty tough jobs I'll give you that. But nothing is impossible and as long as you have the will the knowledge and the grit to getter done you're DEBOSS...
I think I may be about to acquire an 85 W350 and want to do the same thing! I thought about a 3126 but I think the 12V would be more seamless. The one I’m looking at is 2wd and I will keep it that way. It also has a 4 speed.
Love the videos rich. I was wondering if someone more knowledgeable than myself could inform me as to why it wouldn't be more simple to transfer the old body onto the newer frame versus the amount of cutting that went into this. Regardless great job as always and please keep up the new videos
great video. im getting ready to do this to my '83 crew cab long box srw next year. no shop for me. i like how you butchered the donor frame for a template. ill consider that when the time comes
+Austin Macdonald We saved the templates. If you are interested in them, just let me know. There really is no other way to do it. You can mess around with cardboard but the holes won't be exact. We thought about saving the frame but everybody has a frame. The cabs and box's are hard to find, and when you do find one, it generally comes with a frame
+DEBOSS GARAGE i may be actually. where in canada are you located and what would you be looking for them? id still have to buzz out the 4x4 crossmembers but at least then i wouldnt have to torch the whole frame
+Austin Macdonald I'm 20 minutes south of Hamilton in Dunnville. I will talk to the customer building the Dodge and see what he wants for them. Keep me updated on your project!
do you guys have a parts list or breakdown of the general process/parts needed? or happen to know a good forum to have this broken down. I have a 1992 d250 dually auto I am wanting to do a manual/4x4 swap. and would like to not do some work twice.
Steve Birkelund he didn't cut the frame either. He just moved the crossmember and drilled holes for the new 4x4 mounts on the original frame from a donor frame template.
I've got an 08 6.7 Dodge Cummins and I think the exhaust is plugged but so far I put all new rockers to rod and I'm wondering if and I've got that least three stuck valves or bent valves I'm not sure which but could they be stuck it's only got 50,000 miles on it or are they bent for sure? And if they're stuck can they be unstuck without pulling the head
Im thanking about doing a a cummins swop to my 1984 im going to be useing a 1997 12valve cummins motor from my 4x4 im going to swop it in to my 2wheel drive and tips
Does anyone kow the distance between the cool spring buckets? I am looking at buying a 1st gen to frame off and i would love to run something like radius arms and coil springs for the front suspension. Hoping maybe I could run a superduty axle in the front and build radius arm mounts on the frame side. As soon as i sell my rubicon im going to dive in head first I guess.
Video commentary is wrong. Not an NV4500, its the stock factory Getrag G360. Funny I have noticed many errors, but I can't hack on this guy too muchbecause he knows a good truck when he sees it, and looks pretty good with the gas axe and BFH.
+cumminstd90 Unfortunately not. I heat the shop with Geothermal through heated floors. The guy that hooked it up told me I couldn't get cold air. I wanted him to divert cold water through a big truck rad and I would just put a fan behind it. he told me he couldn't get it to work. I just need to hook a couple diverter valves in the piping. Someday there will be no more sweat...
+DEBOSS GARAGE All you need to do is put the rad/condensor inline with the coldest water line (supply side before it goes underground?), with backflow preventers on Both sides of the rad (with the same flow direction, of course. this helps with pressure surges). Just remember to install a pressure limiter because the rad won't handle more than 20psi. It won't be ice cold like ac, but it would be plenty cool. If the guy who did your radiant heat "couldn't" do it, I call BS. It's the same concept except the heat uses the concrete floor as the condensor. I ain't too bright, but I am a 15yr+ commercial plumber.
DEBOSS GARAGE Air conditioned shops are wonderful. But I wonder how often you would need it up there. I live in Houston, Tx and have worked in a non ac shop for a couple years and it is brutal. We have basically 10 months of summer. Humid disgusting summer. And 2 months of ok weather. No winter. No freezing. I don't have the grid heater hooked up on my 12 valve because I don't need it. As funny as it sounds, I was born in the Midwest and would absolutely change weather with you man. My body hates long summers and doesn't mind harsh winters. I'm an oddity like that. But I much prefer very cold climates and mild summers.
I have a friend that has an '85 he's wanting to do this exact thing(minus it being a dually). Do you have to go the leaf setup or can you keep that coil setup and still have it work? He's about to subscribe to the channel as well since you seem to be very knowledgeable and even more descriptive in your processes. Thanks.
Hey Rich quick question, If my crew cab first gen is already 4x4, I should find a donor 12v truck that's also 4x4 right? or could I do the swap using a 2wd 12v donor
did everything bolt up after the template Im just gonna do the front axle for now then when my transmission goes out do the transmission and transfer case.
OldLeatherHands&Friends why would you not trust it without fish plates? I would understand if he cut the frame in half and welded it back together but he didn't. All he did was move the crossmember and drill some holes in the original frame for the 4x4 mounts.
@@norgepalm7315 it's the same holes in the same location that wouldve come from the factory if it were a 4x4 originally. I don't think those holes for the 4x4 are going to weaken the structural integrity because if it did then that would be true for the holes drilled in the frame for the 4x4 from the factory.
Mark B with that attitude why even get out of bed in the mornings. Life must cost a fortune might as well just not do anything. 1) The older trucks have better quality parts than newer chinese truck parts. 2) Older trucks are more stylish than new trucks. 3) Older trucks are cheaper and easier for average Joe's to work on. 4) Older trucks are more simple and have lesss crap to go wrong on them versus newer trucks. 5) This swap is still going to be way cheaper than a new $75,000 fully loaded Ram 3500 cummins crew cab dually. 6) Some people just like to tinker and push the envelope of what is possible otherwise the human race would still be stuck in the stone age.
Rich, love these videos, living vicariously through your builds.

Wow. Git-R-Dun, Rich! Y'all work fast and do extremely good work. Keep it up!
I just finished a 4wd swap on a squarebody suburban. That's a ton of work you guys did
I’ve just done this step for step and completed my own 4x4 swap on a first gen dodge ! I’m in hamilton
I wanted to do this in my 1st gen and everyone told me it was too hard, thanks for thr motivation

I love these kind of projects I get to watch someone else do all the work instead of me doing it cussing and throwing shit.
Hope to do this next year I always wanted this
Don’t know if anybody pointed it out but the trans isn’t an NV4500. It’s a Getrag360. Even says it on the side of the case
My favorite Mopar truck body-style.

Old body was a regular cab, new was a crew cab
man, you guys are quick! lol
Love the channel...from Africa..
is a w 150 frame the same as a w350 ? the w350 just has bigger leafs and axles?
Long shot but is the 4wd template available that you used to drill the holes

Is it just me or does the engine at 10:17 look like it's sitting unlevel tilted backwards toward the cab?
LionHeart0808 that’s just how they are set in from the factory anyway.
GREAT VID!!! Double thumbs up!!!
I don't understand...why not put the body from the first truck on the finished frame with motor?
The body was completely shot. Anything 15 years or older where we live is rotten through.
he said it. it was a single cab long bed. the one that got the axle is a crew cab long bed. so the other frame wasn't long enought.
I could’ve used that frame!😂 mine is twisted from sled pulls
Just out of curiosity why didn't you just put the body and bed from the 2wd on the already together chassis?
Mainly because that was more work and would have cost more...
DEBOSS GARAGE Yeah I realized later that the chassis were different lengths.
Am I the only one who noticed that the nv says getrag? Are they the same trans or did they swap out after that shot?
